TAOLG (39,723)
by 123 from USA

It is my b-day tomorrow so thanks Mimi for the gift. The good: She is singing in full voice, with minimal layering. Her voice sounds great. I don't care what genre she sings as long as she is singing. And singing she is. There is some noticeable production to her voice, but it is not enough to take away from the song. The old school/retro sound is the direction I have been begging her to take for a while now. The bad: The wordy/rap-sung intro, and lack of melody in the verses, and non-existent hook from the hook queen herself is alarming. The song seems unfinished, just like Beautiful did. I keep getting the feeling that all these records are unfinished when I listen to them. Like they were too excited with the demo version and decided to release it instead of crafting it to perfection. The lyrics are a little lackluster, because of the excessive word usage. All in all, it is a path in the right direction, miles above the bland Almost Home and uninspired laziness of Triumphant. MC, if the rest of the records sound unfinished like this, much like the Nas record you said is still being worked on, keep working on it and don't release it until it is done. I will wait for your perfection, because I know it will be well worth it. I give the song a B-/C+.

The Art Of Letting Go (39,722)

It's real, raw, emotional, powerful. This is one of those songs you just listen to and feel and upon each listen you feel it even more. Those skillful runs, the poetic vocal arrangement. I love it. If she keeps releasing music like this the people who don't respect her as an artist now will sing her praises. Great job Mariah. I'm looking forward to what's instored with this album.

Message in the song? (39,721)

"They have to listen very closely to the lyrics, especially the last two lines of the second verse," Carey notes. That's the delete Mimi contact line. Why do we have to listen to that? Any ideas?

Astonishing new song. Great vocals, powerful and insighful lyrics, first-class production. This is the type of music I expect from MC.

A good direction (39,719)
by Matthew from USA

The good: Lyrically, this is all Mimi. I wouldn't be surprised if she was the only writing credit. The vocals are good, especially at the end. It has a very subdued retro feel. She should definitely be able to sing this live. The bad: The song has a weak hook. Her other introspection songs have much stronger hooks (Looking in, Outside, I Wish You Well). Usually when the melody is so sparse, the singer uses her voice to create the pacing (My All). Instead, the pacing is all over the place, and it gives the whole song a kind of spoken word feel (non fans will say she's doing her Idol rambling ). Finally, this is definitely not a chart friendly song. As a guy who loves melodies and choruses, this is a 6/10 for me. But I think the direction she is going in is great.

TAOLG (39,718)

I am so ecstatic about the new single. I am not one of those lambs who keep looking back hoping Mariah will release Daydream part 2, because I have loved her since Butterfly came out. That being said, I love the new song and it reminds me of her older anthems such as Outside (background vocals) and Can't Take That Away (lyrical style). Her voice may not sound the same as then, but damn, she is still the reigning diva of all divas. #Beautiful and TAOLG are really making me excited about the album that shapes up to be a classic yet contemporary type of record if I may guess. Anyway, welcome back Mariah, now give us the album.

Mariah can do no wrong (39,717)
by Carol from Spain

This song is way perfect. Naturally some feel it is too simple. Iguess she can't please the whole world. For me, the song is flawless - the lyrics, the voice, the not so over produced sound. Basically, the whole thing is beyond perfect. Actually, the arrangement kinda reminds me of VOL alot. Some say it's not radio friendly, I say otherwise because it's so different from everything out there that people will opne their ears. This is an anthem for life.

It is stunning, from the melody, to her vocal performance and the old school production, just wow. And that climax is everything, only Mariah has the ability to make you feel the music deep down.

Split (39,715)
by Will from England
| |
|

I'm a bit split over the song. Vocally, she knocked it out the park at the end. Lyrically, I thought it was a bit clumsy here and there, and it felt a bit, out of place? Though it does have some highlight moments ("press delete" lol). Musically, loving the retro feeling to it, and the simplicity about it. Refreshing to hear something that isn't techno/EDM or whatever. It's certainly not a song you can sing along to or dance for that matter, more like lay back in your chaise lounge/sofa/park bench, have a "splash", hit play and just listen and marvel at it. Will it chart high? Maybe not on Billboard, but certainly with the lambs it will. It doesn't sound like something that you would hear on the radio, and I don't know if that will play in its favour or not. We shall see.

Bravo Mariah, you came through lady from the classic vocals you are known for to the thinking outside of the box as far as contemporary radio and going back to a soulful adult contemporary sound with simple production. Also the lyrics are so real and honest that anyone and everyone can feel and relate to them. You knocked it out of the park with this one. MC today makes me proud I am fan.

A stunning vocal performance indeed. The song reminds me a bit of Can't Take That Away except with better lyrics. And I can definitely see her singing this live. I give it 8/10. And who do you think she's referring to when she sings "I hope you don't get no ideas about reuniting baby." Walter? Lol.

I absolutely love the song (39,711)

The old school retro gospel feeling mixed with her contemporary vocals is just beautiful. And that last note, reminiscent of WBT a bit. It might not be everyone's bag and that should be OK to discuss, but it has this timeless quality I love. It sounds like it could be in a movie soundtrack.

by Bill from the UK

Wow. I loved the song, this is a wonderful record. I noted down the lyrics, can anybody help me with the lyric I didn't get? I'm making a statement Of my own opinion Just a brief little reminder To help myself remember I no longer live In your dominion No You're just? Nothing more than a liability Got a bundle of your possessions Outside the kitchen window right now Letting go Letting go ain't easy It's exceedingly hurtful Somebody you used to know is flinging your world around And they watch as you're falling down Falling down Evidently your words were Merely lies Reverberating in my ears And the echo won't subside There's a deep deep loss of hope And the anger burns in me I hope you don't get no ideas about reuniting baby Cause that's the last thing I truly need Your audacity is too much to be believed So go to "Mimi" on your contacts, press delete Letting go aint easy It's just exceedingly hurtful Cause somebody you used to know Is flinging your world around And they watch as you're falling down Baby letting go Ain't easy Baby letting go It ain't easy Cause somebody you used to know Is flinging your world around And you know what? They watch as you're falling down It ain't easy baby

I remember hearing or reading somewhere that the heart necklace was worn as a good luck charm early on, and if it wasn't visible, it would be in a pocket or something. I think I read she had it turned into a ring or something. I can't wait for TAOLG tomorrow.

Here we are 10/11. The day before. MC is going to need all our help with this one folks. She needs this thing to spread viral. We can help her by changing our profile pics and cover photos on our Facebook and by updating our status tomorrow. Of course by purchasing the song too. But the main point is to get people who don't know it's out to know that there is a new song out. Let's make it happen lambs! Good luck.

One of my secret wishes comes true. Michael Buble and MC singing together. Perfect promo for her and I think their voices match well. I hope they hit the studio one day for a duet, that would be so great. Better than MC working with Bieber.

I have a music website (16tunes.com) in which I run artists through a March Madness type of tourney with 16 of their songs. I let fans vote round by round until we arrive at their signature song. To gauge interest, I have fans first vote to see if we do a poll or not. Please go to 16tunes.com to vote for Mariah today, if you'd like to see such a tournament bracket. Thanks.

Got so excited to hear that MC will be performing on Michael Buble's holiday special. Is it going to be a duet or Mimi's going to perform solo? We all know that Buble made his own rendition of "All I Want For Christmas Is You", they may be singing together with that. Or would it be great if they'll sing "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again"? I think their voice match well with the song. I also hope Mariah performs Letting Go on Fallon on the 13th.

Just a friendly reminder that it's not your place to decide who is a fan and who is not. I'm 36 and find it a bit odd to call myself a lamb, yet others feel differently and that's ok. I've followed her for 20 years, bought every album, even did a little trading and collecting for a time. So just chill and let fans do what they will. You know you'll buy the album and support her. Who cares what others do? Peace.
