Anastacia and Mariah (40,500)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
|
|
I was just sat at home having a late 90s early 2000s night with my boyfriend when we rediscovered Anastacia. I decided to Google her to see if she'd ever said anything nice about Mariah. Turns out that Mariah is a fan of her music and they got on really well when they met ("What More Can I Give" - sang on stage together with MJ etc.). Then it transpired that there were plans for them to do a duet, and there's even a quote from Anastacia saying Mariah was up for it. I believe this was shortly after Glitter. Does anybody know what happened with this? Has Mariah ever said anything about it?

MC's facebook message is getting me excited. It's probably just gonna be an official announcement for her new single. We already know about it, but probably many don't know about it.

No label (40,498)
by David from Australia
| |
|
|
I'm hoping she might go independent like Macklemore and have no label telling her what to do with her music. No one telling her the type of song she should record or release, or the type of song that they think fits an album. That way she'd be in control with no one telling her that a certain style or type of song doesn't suit her. Of course she would have people giving her advice, but she would be able to make the final decision.

I totally agree. Remember "MonarC Records"? I think after that it would come down to a distribution deal. I think it may be something MC and Nick would joint venture for their own distribution company. I love the Ebony article.

Mariah needs to fire her label (40,495)
by nikki from usa

For real. I can see it's nice to have an "advance" and a support system. Just to get that, you have to compromise a lot of your artistic integrity for commercial appeal. But, if your label won't promote you, chooses lousy singles costing you album sales, and you have to pay your advance back anyway; what's the point of having a label? If she doesn't go out on her own, than she should have her own label. No longer would she have to adhere to what anyone thinks is the "Mariah Carey" brand. She could try new things and branch out. She once spent $3 million on a music video which probably cost more than the making of the album. If she were to drop an LP on her own, she'd earn 2-3x as much. That would also open up a lot of doors to other possible promotions her current label might limit her to. I nearly fell on the floor when MC said she wanted to release Migrate, but her label didn't think it sounded "Mariah". Even her die hard vocal-balladeer fans were all over that track like shit on Velcro. Then, releasing "Know" to follow up "Obsessed"? "Standing O" or "Just Friends" would've been better choices. Mariah knows her fans, her label doesn't. C'mon woman. You write, produce, sing, direct, promote on your own already. You might as well own/release too.

It's fun to read all different views on Daydream. It's Mariah at her best, sheer perfection. It offers all Mariah fans that song they love. ABMB was the first remix I heard that introduced me to this whole other world of songs (i.e. remixes). At that point, I had not heard the Dreamlover remixes.

Make your own compilation (40,493)
by Ryan from the Philippines
| |
|
|
If I was to make my own compilation of MC songs, it will be called "Mariah Carey: Inspiration". Reason: Mariah has this wide range of inspirational, gospel-tinged ballads. I have been a fan since Through The Rain, and what made me latch on to MC is her spirituality that resonates even to many of her songs. I want to have an album that I could listen to whenever I feel sad or down. She's always been my instrument to stand up and realize God is always there. Tracklist: 1. Make It Happen (Live Tokyo Dome 1996) 2. Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme) 3. Fly Like A Bird 4. Hero 5. When You Believe 6. My Saving Grace (Live Oprah 2003) 7. Vision of Love 8. I Wish You Well 9. I'll Be There 10. Anytime You Need A Friend 11. Whenever You Call 12. One Sweet Day (Live Tokyo Dome 1996) 13. Almost Home 14. Rainbow (Interlude) 15. Through The Rain 16. There's Got To Be A Way 17. Music Box

Happy New Year guys. Ok I usually don't participate in fave song listings because it's so hard to narrow faves from Mariah down to just 1 or 2 but I'll try listing 2 from each album. Lol. Thanks to everyone who replied to my message. I appreciate it. And so I figured. Those snippets sounded pretty good, but hopefully the songs on the new album will be better. But if those snippets just so happen to be on the album, I'll be happy. I just have a feeling that we all will be satisfied with it. I would like another "Charmbracelet" album, because that album is great. But "The art of letting go" should be great too. Songs like "The one", "Yours" are awesome. But Mariah needs to make more songs like "Get your number". That track is one of my favorites. And has anyone heard or likes the song "I feel it'? I love it. Mainy because I love music from the 70's. "I feel it" has a Diana Ross, Jackson 5 feeling to it. And I just like how her voice sounds. I really wished she would have left out "To the floor" for "I feel it".

The snippets in YouTube are fake. It's just the ringtones she did for Pepsi. I would love for her to turn some of those into full songs. I don't remember the names but some of them were really good. And different. TEOM was an amazing era for Mariah.

I would love to hear a full version of one of the ringtones. "Once in A Lifetime" was my jam. I'd play it on repeat all off the time back in the day. I can't believe "The Emancipation of Mimi" era is already almost 10 years old. "Mimi" came out the month before I graduated high school. And it was popular throughout my sophomore year of college. That's the type of life I wish for this upcoming album.

I don't want an 80s cover on this album. If she was to do a cover I'd rather it be something from the 60s or 70s, ie: "Help Me Make It Through The Night" was an awesome cover for MC. I loved both versions of the song before, especially Gladys Knights' version.

Whatever you've heard on YouTube, it won't be from the new album. I imagine it'll be the usual Pepsi ringtones put into one video with a title pretending it's "[...] HQ" or something like that.

I noticed how many of our favorite MC songs are coincidentally also some of the songs she later mentioned were too "schmaltzy" or only wrote to fit in with radio trends (eg. I Don't Wanna Cry) of that time. I wish she would write another gospel-tinged song like Anytime You Need A Friend, or at least perform it live. She hasn't sang this since 1996. Mariah Carey: Vision Of Love, Vanishing, Love Takes Time Emotions: Emotions, Can't Let Go, Make It Happen Music Box: Anytime You Need A Friend Merry Christmas: Miss You Most, O Holy Night Daydream: Forever, Looking In Butterfly: Butterfly, My All, Breakdown, The Roof, Whenever You Call (practically the entire album! ) #1s: I Still Believe Rainbow: Against All Odds, Thank God I Found You (Make It Last Remix) Glitter: Lead The Way Charmbracelet: Through The Rain The Emancipation Of Mimi: It's Like That, Stay The Night, I Wish You Knew, Fly Like A Bird, Don't Forget About Us E=MC2: I Stay In Love, I'm That Chick Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel: Candy Bling, Languishing Interlude Merry Christmas II You: When Christmas Comes Best Remixes: Anytime You Need A Friend (7'' Mix), My All (Morales Classic Mix)

I've always said Mariah Carey should put her spin on "Unchained Melody". But I recently heard "Falling Slowly" by Damian McGinty (I know it's not original to him) but I believe she could really make these songs, hers. What do you all think? And what song would you like to see mariah cover?

Bruno Mars isn't a good artist. Nor does he write or sing good songs. What could he possibly do for Mariah? Though "Memoirs of an imperfect angel" sucked. It's her worst album. So "The art of letting go" should definitely be better. And if anybody saw her interview with Andy. She said that she added 4 more songs on the new album. I wonder if that's true. Would be good. Because we need and want as many songs on this new album as she can give us. Also, I wondered if the snippets I heard on YouTube are going to be on the album. Because if they are. I like what I heard. It's the video of her smiling. Someone reply.
