Lol. I have been thinking the same thing for days now. People get all caught up that they ignore what's right in their faces. They should believe the real, raw footage, not the recorded, edited footage, which is distorted. Lol. MC could be speaking with someone right in their face and someone would say she lipped it.

She wrote the songs (37,960) by Anonymous from
Mariah has written #17 1's. And she has proven yet again that she can still write an excellent pop song. #Beautiful in my opinion is her best lead single since Fantasy. She's written the song of the summer. It sounds beautiful on the radio.

Absence of Miguel (37,958) by Orkun from The Netherlands
If Miguel couldn't perform the song with Mariah, because he was on tour with Alicia Keys as her support act, if this is the reason, how can Alicia Keys come to A.I. and he can't?

Mariah's voice is still the voice (37,957) by Anonymous from
Mariah can still sing. I don't think she's the new Maria Callas. Even if it was dubbed or lipped, it was still her voice that was used.

Edward / this new era (37,956) by John from USA
I agree with you 100%. Mariah really needs to bring it for this era. I think it's do or die. It may be her last chance to have any significant airplay, sales, chart stats. She's 43, and clearly her voice isn't exactly what it was back in the 90s, and God only knows how much longer her voice will be decent enough to even attempt to perform live. She can still do great in the studio (i.e. "Almost Home"), but her live performances are a mixed bag. I'm praying she gets her act together this era. I'm hoping for decent videos, live-ish performances (I'll take what I can get), and above all, promotion. Please Mariah, if you're reading this, we know you can do this, you are Mariah-legend-freaking-Carey. Get out there, promote, and slay them all once again.

Re: Jaker20 / lipsync nonsense (37,955) by Che from USA
The reason Miguel was unable to perform with her on Idol is because he's currently on tour with Alicia Keys. There's video of her singing other songs in between the songs that aired on AI and her voice is pure perfection. The videos are on YouTube. If people want to watch them and still say she lip synched then oh well.

No problem dude. I'm so envious of the fact that you're attending the GMA concert. Oh what I'd give to live in the USA. Lol.

Lip sync, Edward, Stephen (37,953) by Anonymous from
You folks who can't hear her lip sync either needs a new tv or needs to get your ears check. It's very obvious that she did. And why does it matter? It's because she is a singer and a professional one at that, who has been giving advice to other singers about what to do with their voice. How in the world are you going to critique someone and then have a false performance? I'm glad that Edward and Stephen understands what I'm thinking. It's aweful to do that on AI. She should have sucked it up and did one big live performance. It is what it is.

MC fans are MC's toughest critics (37,952) by jaker20 from US
But I rather enjoy the music that MC just put out, because it really is a great great song. I'm just glad the song is smashing, and we should all be excited, because it's been quite a long time since.

Stephen from London, thank you (37,951) by Edward from USA
Stephen, you're so on point about the fact that when she was pregnant and probably off any type substances e.g. alcohol, weed or any other thing, her voice improved significantly. She was obviously making sure her then unborn twins were fine, and by doing whatever she did, which included avoiding any type of alcohol, something she said herself, also helped her voice. While still pregnant, she perfectly executed "One Child" live for the Christmas special at the white house. By no singing live on AI, and I'm not saying she lip-synced, but it wasn't live either, she opened Pandora's box and all hell broke loose, and I hope she can close it back with Friday's performance. I already got my tickets for the GMA mini concert, I hope she redeems herself, since all eyes will be on her. If Miguel is not available, Trey Lorenz would be a good choice to perform the whole song with her. I hope she up the humidifiers by 10,000 and don't speak for the rest of the week if that is what is going to take for her to give us a decent performance. She has such a great single out, praised by the media, and doing well on iTunes and Billboard, she just have to do her part. I love me some Mariah, but she needs to get serious for this new era.

AI performance (37,950) by Robby from Norway
First, Mariah looked stunning in her white ensemble during her AI performance. She looked beautiful. Second, i enjoyed the performance. It was so nice seeing her again for the long time on TV performing. Third, the not-singing-live-thing, come on. It is her voice. What is the matter? If she lipsing it so what? She is not using other voice, it's her genuine voice - live or not. Kudos to Mariah. I love you so much. I appreciate you. I enjoy you. I hope to see on the top of the charts soon.

Wow (37,949) by RadChad from United States
People are still going off as if it's a proven fact that she lip sung on Idol.
My thing is her vocals even sound live and raw, so if anything I would harp on it being (a bad) dub job before being convinced it was lipped. Anyway, from what I heard (dubbed or live), the voice sounds better than ever. So some of you all need to chill out for a minute, atleast until she performs on GMA Friday, before you go off on the deep end with your anger and hostility. I'm just saying.

Everyone lost their minds perhaps? (37,948) by nikki from usa
Mariah's done what Mariah's done since day 1. Her MSG from Daydream had her singing nearly every song 3 times. That's what they do when they're going to be selling something live. She's always done it, so I don't know why this situation should be any different. Mariah wasn't in control of editing. Fans have seriously lost their senses thinking she constantly needs to change everything about herself because of what everyone "thinks" is happening. Truth really takes a back seat when there are appearences to keep up, huh? Mariah should never compromise her artistic integrity simply because the media will find a way to exploit her in a bad light. This has been going on for decades people, it's not going to change. The fact of the matter is she sang a live show in front of fans the night before and her undubbed performances are up on YouTube to back it up. It doesn't matter if she sings with live backup or a backing track, because if she sounds too good live she gets accused of lipsyncing anyway. There's people on this board who refuse to accept anything but a bad vocal performance as "live". Then of course complain about it later.

Edward from USA (37,947) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I'm totally with you. Surely, it shouldn't be that out of the ordinary for her to just get on stage and sing a damn song. I thought it was ridiculous and think Mariah needs to sort it out. She's incredibly insecure about the state of her voice, yet has done sweet nothing to improve it. Her voice is shot. Yes, she's gone on periods of vocal rest before shows etc, but that's clearly not enough. She needs to either accept the limitations of her voice, or see what wholesale changes need to occur with her current lifestyle, which has clearly affected her voice. When she was pregnant and off the sauce, her voice was in the best condition it has been in for a long time. Her voice has gone backwards since then. I have no right to tell her what to do with her life, but if she's that insecure about her voice, then maybe she should do something about it.

Live variations (37,945) by Lee from UK
For me, Mariah's studio recordings are amazing, she has time to perfect them and make them sound amazing. She can layer her vocals and weave intricate melodies which are beautiful. As the production on a lot of Mariah's songs is so complex, they are impossible to interpret live. In my opinion (and I'm not an expert) when it comes to singing live, Mariah should sing simpler versions of the songs that don't require her to sing over her own pre-recorded vocals. There are many things you can do in a studio that will not translate into a live performance. Nobody will get upset if the live version of a song is not completely like the studio version, because nobody can be that unrealistic. If Mariah is having a bad voice day, she can do what she used to do with Can't Let Go and forsake the high notes for something different. I used to enjoy the fact that Mariah's live performances were always so different to the studio versions and I would collect them just to hear the tiny variations in the melodies or the different technical choices she would make as if she was thinking of it on the spot.

I think American Idol is at fault for a bad edit. They know this and this is why they haven't spoken on the issue. I expected much worse than this. Any press is good press, right?

Idol performance / voice (37,942) by CDC from CA
She took quite a bit of heat in 2002 when Charmbracelet was released. I recall critics unfavourably comparing her first attempted "comeback" with that of Whitney Houston's "Just Whitney" and Celine Dion's "A New Day Has Come", because of the muddy and whispery enunciation, which suggested a vocal decline (or how the critics were writing: "her voice had been shot"). In one of those packaged interviews to promote the Charmbracelet album, she repudiated those critics by saying that she no longer prefers dynamics because they're "boring". Since then, I don't think she has ever allowed this matter to be brought up in public again. Set aside status, reputation, accomplishments. The American Idol performance was bad. No matter if Beethoven or Bieber; a bad performance is a bad performance. It was a continuation of her usual fair of quasi-lipsynched lyrics and syllables cunningly masked with over-exaggherated excess. The planned prerecord backfired big time in large part due to whoever was oversaw the editing. It now seems that the public at large is beginning to question Mariah's voice, with the Kelly Price twitter scandal, and now the American Idol performance. Hopefully, this will encourage a much needed shift in her musical activities. She has a proven ear and has exhibited herself to be quite a talented musician, so why not interpret her songs that better suits the current state of her voice? Clearly, the voice hasn't been the same in decades, but the singer never left.

AI performance (37,941) by Gloria from Hong Kong
How on earth the argument of lip syncing comes out? I laughed the minute I saw this kind of silly news. I've watched the clip many times and I'm 100% sure it was sung live. Listen carefully to her voice, sweet and powerful, her breathing between lines, look at her upper arm (showing the strength she had while singing) and her facial expression (not usually a good indicator I admit) etc. Singing live and lip syncing are two different pictures. I've also watched the other clip recorded by one of the audience. That version is different that you almost can tell when you hear the first line "I had a vision of love". She sang it three times because she wanted it to be her best. I truly trust her. Indeed she did a very great job. I can hardly wait for the GMA.

Why is Miguel not promoting #Beautiful with MC? (37,940) by jaker20 from US
I would think wherever he is, on tour, etc. they could at least perform it at least once. The Idol slot was the best time to do it. Or maybe do it acapella in Letterman or Fallon. Perform only that song, and not a medley. Is the song that unimportant with them both, that she sings only snippets of it? The appeal of the song is the duel. Why aren't they doing it? I mean, when Madonna released her last single, she managed to bring in both Nicky Minaj and MIA on Superbowl. Robin Ticke performed with TI and Pharrell on The Voice and his song vaulted to no.1 on iTunes. With MC's influence and resources, why can't she do something epic like that? Remember when she debuted Its Like That on VH1 Save The Music? It was the beginning of a massive promo. Why can't MC do something epic like that to promote the song? I really believe that if you have something to promote, promote it in full force. Like how Madonna does it. It doesn't always work, but you know she's completely behind it, not half-azz a song promo.

Well (37,939) by Lee from USA
I am sure Aretha lipped a few times in her day, so nobody's perfect. Madonna and Whitney have ripped off their fans at one point or another, yet nobody is crying about it a week later. This is what I'm talking about. Mimi is the most scrutinized artist in the business. If Radar Online struggled to find proof of it and there is proof on YouTube of the opposite, then we should let it go and keep supporting her. By the way, Mimi is far from embarrassing herself via a taped performance gone awry. If bad press has not destroyed her by now, it is not going to now.

If Mariah's a diva, she'd better be a diva (37,938) by Edward from USA
And please don't tell me to get over it, that she doesn't have anything to prove. She has brought all eyes on her, now she does have something to prove. If she is going to be the last diva standing, she is going to have to own up to it. A female singer should be at her peak vocally in her 40's. I would understand if she were as old as Aretha, but she is still young and healthy. She hasn't toured in four years. Sorry guys, but I am frustrated. I want this chapter in her music to be great, because it could be her last chance at getting massive airplay.

Idol performance (37,937) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
Parts of the performance were clearly lipped. It was very embarrassing for Mariah. After years of lipping parts of most of her TV performances, which seemingly went unnoticed to the mass media, she got caught out on a very big stage. Hopefully, it will teach Mariah an important lesson. When I've heard her live on fan recordings, such as Sydney this year, she sounded great. I don't know why she doesn't just embrace her voice in its current state and run with it. She's still better than most out there. The AI performance was so awkward to watch. I don't know what she was thinking. I initially thought a medley would be a good idea, but I thought she'd have more time. The songs were badly chopped up, and upon reflection, perhaps Mariah should have just sung WBT (a song she's very comfortable singing), followed by a complete version of #Beautiful, maybe with Trey Lorenz or even Keith Urban. When Mariah isn't on a big tv show and is singing at a concert, such as in Sydney or in Brazil a few years back, she's way more relaxed, and does a much better job. She knows her voice is in whack condition compared to the voice that made her, and she's embarrassed to use it on a big televised platform. She should finally put the champagne down and look after that voice, if she feels that embarrassed. Hopefully, this will be a lesson to her.

Why can't she just stand there and sing live? (37,936) by Edward from USA
To me the medley was ok, but why can't she just stand there and sing live like everybody else? It is a live show, why pretaping, cutting and pasting, why? It is a live show for heaven's sake, everybody looks up to her, just stand there and sing at least one effing song, how difficult can it be for a pro like her? Show those who don't know much about your music why you are a legend, without gimmicks and corrections. It doesn't have to be perfect, just show them. Even the great and old Aretha sang live. I am out of excuses for her. It hurts like hell. And I am tired of the earpiece excuse too. Let's see if she does something big on GMA.

She's earned her place guys (37,935) by S from England
Okay, so people are postulating on various views on which parts of her medley were sang live or not. But here is my point, some of you are saying you want to hear Mariah "sing like before" or want "your friends to like her". I just can't understand what exactly Mariah has left to prove or present to the world at this stage of her career. The way I see it, is if I had been in the business for 23 years and had been singing so well, and had seen my name rise to the top of the Billboard charts 18 times, and see my name placed for titles like "song of the decade" twice etc, I certainly wouldn't feel like it would be worth having to prove anything to anybody. So if you're friends with people who don't like her, or if it's people on this page that criticize a woman who clearly has vocal issues which she can't control, then leave them them to their own devices. I'm done with expecting stellar "Hero" type performances of 1993. Voices change due to wear and tear and it's clear to me that since 97, things had changed and it had never really recovered. She's still better than most of the garbage that's out there, no names, cough *sips water*. So, if you feel she's ever really really bad, we could have a discussion, but come on now people, her voice has been in this state since 2004, so what's new? Stay safe everyone.
