Reminds me / Idol (37,829)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
This reminds me of Through The Rain, after Mariah's parents ran away together, eloped, and just enjoying their freedom. The barn his background, the chandeliers the well to do life she left combined with the freedom of the red car. I thought all that was cool. The one shown at Idol was pretty tame and pretty edited, I didn't know about the panties until I saw the full one on YouTube. Idol's ratings have been on a steady decline since the original panel left. Mariah was never set to do more than one year, so I don't know why anyone's talking about contract renewal. She has an album coming out and other projects. Unlike the usual panel of judges, Mariah's career wasn't stalled, she had youngins and this timing worked out for her. She never needed it, they wanted her to boost ratings, but then backstabbed her from the get-go. I think the producers knew Mariah had no desire to come back, so they're trying to use her as a patsy, in spite of the fact Nicki's likeability is the lowest.

Actually I do have children, I have three and the youngest is almost five years old. I never said children don't pick up on stuff because I know they do. A four year old child is not going to know Mariah is being sexy by lifting her dress a little and dancing. You act like Mariah is mother Teresa, please grow up. I never once said I did or didn't like the video so you don't know what my opinion of it is. It is complaining and it is bull. And no I shouldn't have to go to another message board. I should be able to see positive things instead negative bull crap from fans. One comment that really bothered menus when someone on here said "I don't know why everyone likes this song so much." So should everyone hate the song? Why would a fan of an artist say that? Now what you should do Stacey is find an artist that is a disappointment to you.

Girls, boys and physical beauty (37,827)
by Geronimo from USA
| |
|
|
The video for #Beautiful promotes an erotic beauty, the aspect of beauty most people (myself included) associate with sexual availability which, of course, intends to provoke physical desire. That is a nice part of life, but certainly not the most interesting form of beauty nor the most stable way to sustain desire. If I had children, I would do everything that I could to make sure that they did not have to contend with digitized and professionalized sexual bodies just as they begin to construct their sexual identities. I think we are all born with sexuality, but rely on our environments to form how we see others and ourselves. Something tells me that Mariah's parents were not able to help her understand this in such a way that she could appreciate how the combination of her music's universal appeal and the more universal appeal of leather, panties, breast and buttocks might combine to frustrate those who wish to give girls and boys some time to express and experience a broader sexuality as they decide on their own time to include (or exclude) the kind of expression Mariah offered them on prime time TV.

#Beautiful (37,826)

The song is not at all what I expected it would be, but I love it. I think it's a very fresh direction for her. I love a classic Mariah moment, but I must say I was getting tired of her repetitive pattern with JD since TEOM. I think the song has surprised a lot of people and it is creating the desired hype for her new album. US radio really seems to be picking up the song. I just wish downloads were stronger. Hopefully with a little bit more promotion.

Antone, I think you need to put a mirror in front of you when saying "figure it out". Idol has always marketed itself as a show where families can watch together. To show a video like that during a time when kids are watching was not a good decision. To say a 4 1/2 year old doesn't pick up on stuff, you obviously don't have one. They pick up more than you know. People here are not complaining. They are expressing their opinions on why they like or not like the video. You are the only one it seems attacking folks who don't share your opinion about the video. Here all opinions are welcomed. So deal with it or go to a messageboard that doesn't make you so sick, lol. *laughs* So done with this. Peace. Chase, I completely agree with your last post about Idol. I think Mariah needs to resign Idol before she does get fired for low ratings. I think that will still happen, but if she resigns before they fire her or "not renew her contract" (i.e. the same as firing), it will help her save face and move on faster. And you know Mariah, she'll never discuss anything negative in the press about Idol. She'll always stay positive about Idol for the near future.

MC is going to slay it, I just know it. She needs to slay the Idol performance and that will really push the #Beautiful promo. I wish she's performing the song, because that's the best timing.

Beautiful video clip (37,822)
by Scott from USA
| |
|
|
Well, personally I really love the video clip. It puts a big smile on my face. I think it just shows a man who wants his woman to dance sexy for him and she feels completely comfortable doing this in front of him because of how confident he makes her feel. What's wrong with that? I think it's nice. To me it doesn't feel dirty or perverted at all, but just shows two people who are completely elated with each other. It suits the song lyrics to a tee.

Video and song (37,821)
by Jenny from South Africa

The song is growing on me, but I'm not as in love with it as everyone else seems to be. I'm more with Dionne and John from USA on this. But it's not bad and I'm thrilled that the majority of people love it so much. I actually think the video is really cute and fun. The only parts that make me cringe are when they focus on her butt. I think that was going too far. But overall it's cute. I prefer Almost Home as a song, but I prefer the #Beautiful video. In Almost Home she was covered up but her movements seemed so awkward that I couldn't really enjoy it.

#Beautiful (37,820)
by Lainsky from Philippines

The video is beautiful and brings back my memory to Butterfly/Sweetheart days. As for the song, after listening to it 3x and watching the video at AI, it feels like for me it's there almost but not quite, you know? It's like going to the peak but did not, something like that. Perhaps it is new song and new sound so let's see in the coming days. I really feel sorry and disappointed regarding Angie Millers departure, she could have been at least the finalist and not Kree. She's not that popular after all.

I'll be loving you long time VS beautiful video (37,819)
by Paul from Usa

I love the IBLYLT video. It's gorgeous. Mariah is free. It's summer. She's sexy. Sun kissed. Not once does she grab her crotch. Make a sex face. It's a simple video, and has a plot. I just feel Mariah has gotten a little lazy with her music/videos. Why not let some professional come in and coach her, give her a plot, learn how to dance instead of flashing the goods to the crowd. Make a good meaningful video that can change the world, give people inspiration, give regular people a reason to feel "beautiful" and love themselves. Mariah, where are going? I feel like I should protest her sometimes. Me: "What do we want?" Crowd: "Old Mariah." Me: "When do we want it?" Crowd: "Now." I'm hoping for change.

Beautiful video (37,818)
by Paul from Usa
| |
|
|
I'm serverely disappointed with the beautiful video. The song is growing on me, it's okay, but def not her best, and I hope it's not the best she has to offer from her forthcoming album. This video could have been way better in my opinion. "You're beautiful." I wish the plot of the video had some inner beauty meaning, why does it have to be about Mariah almost flashing her crotch at us and pulling her skirt up a million times? I thought she had new inspiration since the birth of her children. I thought she was headed down a different path. It's been 4 years since MOAIA, I'm really ready for an album where Mariah is focused on her music and not her appearance. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I love the video MC and Miguel(M&M) are both beautiful and the simple video fits the simplicity of the song. And Mariah in that dress, panty flash included, is amazing. Her body is beautiful and those legs. And she actually proves she has rhythm. She's never be a dancer. It's not her thing, but she kills it with her little flirty and seductive number. For the follow up to #Beautiful, I wish Mariah would write a duet with Bruno Mars. When I Was Your Man is the male version of We Belong Together. Those two could write a killer ballad. And his production team is known for taking old ideas and putting a fresh, new spin on it. Or they could do an uptempo song, it doesn't matter as long as it happens.

Comments about the video (37,815)
by Antone from Us

Once again Mariah's fans sicken me more. First of all to the person who said they had to take their child out of the room when the video came. Mariah has been dressing like that before your child was even born, so please. I don't understand why people get on here and complain about nonsense. Mariah is a grown woman and has not once said she is a role model to young girls or toddlers for that matter. You know how she dresses by now. And a four year old child wouldn't not know what Mariah is doing anyway. People on here want a reason to complain about everything. You know people on here say Mariah is the one with the problem, but I think it is the other way around and you need to figure it out.

Exactly, Lee. And what bothered me the most, thinking of this in retrospect after the show was over, was this video was shown to young children. Maybe I'm thinking this way as a parent of a 4 year old girl. But, I had to kick her out of the room with a show that I normally don't mind her watching. Licia, it might turn out to be ok even if some of us don't care for it. I just think this type of video has been done over and over again. Let's get MC back on the roller coaster (ala Fantasy), lol.

Idol (37,813)
by Chase from USA
| |
|
|
Idol producers who are blaming low ratings on the judges need a reality check. This show has been on air an extraordinary twelve seasons. It is still a ratings draw and outpaces increasing competition, but I believe it will only continue its decline in ratings due to audience fatigue. Even with Mariah as a judge, I only tuned in occasionally, despite closely following the show's first several seasons. I'm not interested anymore, and I think most of the country feels that way. How many times has Idol already shaken up the roster to no avail? Their attempt to milk the controversy between Nicki and Mariah proved fruitless, and I'm glad Mariah kept her cool. I don't think another revamped judging panel will do anything for the ratings next season. I'm glad Mariah is leaving, and I don't think she intended to stay. It is frustrating that she will receive some blame for this weak season.

Beautiful video (37,812)
by Chris from Uk

I really like this video. It's summery and simple and Mariah looks happy which is what really matters. She isn't the best dancer in the world and I don't mind that she flashes her knickers either as that lime dress is sexy on her. Let her have some fun and enjoy her looks while they last, because I sure would if I was her, she looks better than most 20 year olds. Fingers crossed this is a massive hit as she deserves one.

Beautiful vs sexy (37,810)
by Lee from UK

In my personal opinion, you can be beautiful without being sexy. Just because she's "fucking beautiful" doesn't mean we need to see Mariah flash her crotch. I am not being particularly prudish here and I don't take offence to it either, I just think that junk should be saved for Nick.

Not a fan of the video aside from the lighting and windblown hair. And I really wanted to love the video as much as I loved the song. And I know she's been doing "sexy" videos for a long time. I get it. Usually, I just let it roll. Lol. But for this song, because I love it so much, I really wanted something less "in your face" and overt sexy. I think a more understated approach would have complimented the lyrics and the relaxed beat of the song, and made the song more accessible to the "every-person" out there watching who can relate to those lyrics and the feeling she's evoking. I'm not saying she has to wear turtlenecks or anything that extreme, I just think it would have been refreshing to see more natural beautiy portrayed in the song as opposed to the kind of sex-kitten. In #Beautiful she doesn't seem comfortable in spots, it lends to feeling persona. The Roof is a good example. Very sexy, less "put on". She was more relaxed and less "trying to be sexy" in The Roof and it worked well. Superficial which isn't the point of the song. I don't know. Just sigh. Lol.

Blog reception (37,808)
by Licia from USA

I've been reading some of the blogs and surprisingly they are liking the video. I mean, these are blogs who have no love for Mariah any other day, but the reception for Beautiful has been good. She can't please everybody and she shouldn't even try in my opinion. I respect what some of you have said and I agree she doesn't always have to show her body off all the time, but even if she had been covered from head to toe, somebody would have had something bad to say. This has been happening since the beginning of her career. Something would have been wrong with it. It's a no win situation. Even when I don't like a video or a decision that she has made, I respect when she stays true to herself. I really don't blame her for doing what she wants, how she wants to do it.

You're right. OSD didn't have a storyline, lol. With the exception of IBLYLT, the rest of the videos you mentioned didn't have Mariah running around half-naked. Videos like Emotions, Dreamlover, ABMB, and Fantasy didn't have a cohesive storyline either. They simply showed MC having fun, dancing around, etc without the skimpy outfits front and center. Know what I mean? And Emotions is a very sexy song. Just listen to the lyrics, lol. Even The Roof had Mariah visualizing the lyrics through various scenes (the rain, car, etc.). Anyway, feel free to share your 2 cents. Always enjoy reading your posts. Deedre, I love the song even more each time I listen to it. But the video? *sigh*

#Beautiful video (37,806)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom

I love the video. I get why some fans don't like it. The video is pretty generic, and very much a modern Mariah video, ie no real concept, and a few repetitive vanity shots. For me, of all her recent songs, the simplicity of the video actually suits the song. Songs such as HATEU should have had a concept. With this song, it wasn't necessary. However, if you were expecting a Heartbreaker, Honey or ILT type of concept, then I get why you would be let down. However, I just didn't expect that with this song. For me, it works. Mariah is clever too. She knows only too well that people will talk about this video, and if she creates a stir or a buzz, then it can only benefit her if people hear the single. Rihanna, Gaga and Katy Perry are more vulgar IMO, and it's done them no harm. I'm not saying Mariah should stoop to their levels, but she's been doing this for a while, so it really shouldn't surprise people. If it's not her to sit in a field in a boiler suit, then people should just accept that. Surely, at this point in her career that video doesn't come as a surprise?

#Beautiful video on second thought (37,804)
by Badr from USA
| |

Perhaps I was a bit too harsh with my previous comment. There are a few shots that went a bit too far, in my opinion. My point is that Mariah is much more interesting than those so called pop stars who expose their body too much. That's why I was expecting more. To be fair, the theme is cool, and so are the locations. There are some nice shots and Mariah seems to be having fun. She surely looks awesome, too. I hope people focus on the positive aspects of this video.
