Will (37,198) by Ryan from the Philippines
Since TEOM I also thought she had nose job, but I realized everytime she comes out without or less make up (e.g., Christmas in February, photos at home with dem babies), it's pretty the same with the nose she had before. Though I must admit it was bigger in early 90's, but we don't know. As to the photo, I think that was make up. Just my two cents.

Mariah's nose (37,197) by Will from England
Ok, look, you all know I love Mariah. But what is up with her nose in that picture (where she is on the set of "Almost Home"), is that just bad lighting or what? It looks like Janet Jackson's nose has been placed on that photo. Compare it to the banner one, it's just become thinner, pointed and smaller. Is it just me?

Lol, I don't know about conspiracy, but they sure don't showcase any of MC's comments. People are nuts to think she sits in hours of auditions and try out rounds and not say anything. Maybe producers are mad that she didn't play along to the Nicki-girl beef fiasco. Mariah made it clear that that sort of crap would not happen again. But I watched the last few shows and last night Nicki made a point of jumping in when it was Mariah's turn to close out a round. Mariah already told the chick that she was so genuine and was closing out for the next group when nutty Minaj jumped in to repeat what Mariah said as if it was a new thought, by saying the singer was authentic. Duh. I'm glad MC nipped that and cut NM off. Producers created the environment we see and they are editing the show to show the conflict or shine that they want audiences to see. Many are falling for it, but not me. Nicki talks too much and not about singing, because she is not qualified. But she is doing what she can to draw attention to herself and away from contestants. Mariah wants to let the contestants shine. She's doing her thing as a professional with the goods. Nicki is a wanna be trying to justify her existence on the show.

I have to disagree (37,195) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I don't think it s that Nicki is more eloquent. I think it is that Nicki has decided she wants to prove her value as a judge on AI, so she chooses to speak first many times and speak often. Mariah on the other hand I can feel her holding back. If you watch AI, the camera's purposefully cut to Mariah and then cut to Nicki to show Nicki's reaction while Mariah is talking. I am not attacking Nicki. I'm just feeling strongly from Mariah that she doesn't want to argue yet when MC says anything there's a reaction from Ncki or Nicki will just start talking. Like last night for example, Mariah was still talking and Nicki started talking over her. Yet I think MC is guarded and doesn't want to rock the boat or come off like a B. IMO she's holding back quite a bit of what she might say. It's unfortunate. And again, AI is extremely edited right now and they edit too Nicki a lot from what I am seeing.

Idol (37,194) by Licia from USA
The first couple of seasons that I watched Idol, I don't recall any of the judges giving technical advice during the audition phase. Seemed like they gave more sound advice during the live shows. Why people feel she should go on this full on rant about "if you do it this or that way or sing like this" during the audition phase is beyond me. Kanye shrug. I think she's doing fine now, but during the live shows I will expect more because that's when it really counts in my opinion.

Exactly. I agree with you 100%. You would think some are new fans that just discovered Mariah, by the things they post on here.

Expression (37,192) by Jamie from UK
I too have noticed since around 2009 that Mariah speaks slower and less articulate than she used to. She still has her eloquent moments where she expresses herself well, but she has let Nicki steal her shine. Mariah speaks the least out of all the judges and her points aren't that great. Ironic that the "untalented rapper" seems to be doing a better job than the veterans. On the bright side, I can't wait to hear Almost Home. I can tell it's gonna be something special and she looks exceptional on the set of the video.

Mariah's justification (37,191) by RadChad from United States
Judging from all the comparisons from you all, I completely understand now why Mariah was upset that she wasn't going to be the only female judge on AI and she had every right to be. And now you guys are saying Mariah isn't well spoken/eloquent on the show? It's really getting out of hand now. I'm not going to attack Nicki, because I was once a huge fan of hers, but I do believe that if Mariah was the only female judge, her personality would shine more and her critiques would be more in-depth/get more airtime. I think the tiff believe the two female judges didn't make for good television and has thrown the chemistry/comradery off.
Hopefully during the live shows everything will begin to gel well.

Eloquence (37,190) by Billy from Greece
Has anyone seen any interviews by Mariah, especially from the late 1990s? Mariah is one hell of an eloquent person. Her flow of speech, vocabulary and communicative skills are more than impressive. I'll admit that the past few years she appears to have changed her approach in terms of the way she expresses herself, being more reticent, but it is undoubted that Mariah can do some serious talking if she chooses to.

Scott and Edward (37,189) by Lee from UK
I agree with you two one hundred percent. Mariah is obviously the most qualified judge in terms of experience and ability, but she lacks the ability to express herself unlike Nicki. I agree with Scott that Mariah seems to be too much in her own head, maybe over thinking her comment. I spoke here recently about Mariah being unable to complete a sentence, like she gives up half way through. I think in the Hollywood rounds Mariah found it too difficult to speak to and judge the contestants and say "No" because she is trying to spare their feelings. Nicki, on the other hand, has no problem telling the contestants exactly what was wrong with the performance or to get over themselves and stop with the pitty party. I have yet to hear Mariah give any sound advice that could help a contestant improve, but maybe she is saving it for the live shows.

Mariah and Keith Urban (37,188) by Trish from USA
I have been a country fan for a while because I enjoy meaningful lyrics that I can relate to. Keith is a fabulous guitar player, singer and song writer. I would love to hear a song written and performed by Mariah and Keith, I've been praying they become friends and make it happen. I think they would write a fabulous pop ballad together. If you aren't familiar with Keith's work, look up: "I Want to Be Your Everything", "Stupid Boy", and "Raining on Sunday".

RibbonB (37,187) by CDC from CA
I remember Keith saying that Mariah was very helpful with technicalities, that she's making sure the contestants are using their voices properly. I also remember Ryan saying that Mariah would advise contestants during auditions by singing back to them. I've seen none of this on the show. It seems like Mariah is being edited down to the tittle, unfortunately. Nigel Lithgow has been open about being partial to Nicki, so maybe it's a conspiracy?

George from UK, respect (37,186) by Edward from USA
George, nobody's siding with Nicki. I don't know Nicki's music and I don't want to know it. The only time I've heard the woman rap was on Mariah's "Up Out My Face" remix, that's it. But truth should be told, and it doesn't have anything to do with their experiences. Even though it's not the case here, but everybody knows that Beyonce is a great artist/performer, but she can't talk. It's been in the media for a long time that she talks like someone with a six grade education, but nonetheless she's a great artist. Fantasia Barrinos won American Idol, and she didn't know how to read of write. Nicki is not a singer, and she may not even be a good rapper, but she definitely expresses herself more eloquently and articulates better than Mariah. So, the ability to speak and articulate doesn't have anything to do with how great of an artist you can be. Mariah can express herself very well, I've seen it, but she does it better when she's not worrying too much about being perfect. Nicki's carefree and spontaneous, which I hate, but oh well, Mariah's the best in so many other areas.

Respect (37,185) by George Golden from UK
Nicky is trying had to outshine Mariah. What are you guys on here talking about about? Nicky is a better judge? Really? She is rude and full of herself. Who is she compared to Mariah? What experience does she have to judge singers? One album rereleased twice and she thinks she is on the same level as Mariah. Nicky feels very inferior in the presence of Mariah and she should. You so called fans of Mariah should stop taking sides with Nicky, it doesn't tell well. I know she is not perfect, but please guys, show some respect to Mariah.

Nicki clown (37,184) by RibbonB from USA
A lot of the Idol comments are about the editing. The producers barely show the other judges comments and they usually start with Nicki. Strange, because she can't sing and she focuses on everything but singing. The rediculous characters she keeps passing to the next rounds will never win and some are downright pathetic. It's unfortunate because some who can sing get dissed because of their nerves. Producers have bet on the clown, but it's not working, they have created an awkward show.

American Idol (37,183) by Scott from USA
I agree with what some people are saying in recent posts. Nicki talks more confidently and chooses her words better. It's like Mariah isn't a confident speaker or something. She doesn't know what words are coming next out of her mouth and sometimes drifts off. If anything, I believe it's a confidence thing. Is she forgetting who she is? She could be giving great advice and drawing on her experiences, but it's almost like she doesn't know what to say. She always talks well in interviews, so it's not like she can't talk well, it's just like she isn't confident/experienced as a mentor. Nicki just seems more relaxed in general, while Mariah seems a bit in her own head. Maybe she's thinking too much, I don't know what it is, but something just doesn't seem natural. She just seems to be focused on how she presents herself and I think you can very clearly tell she's very image conscious in front of the cameras. Anyway, that's just my opinion. I certainly don't think she's doing a bad job or anything, I guess some people just take on a mentor role better than others. I know I'd be a terrible mentor - I prefer to be led rather than lead. Maybe she's the same.

Nattalie: Nicki responses (37,181) by Edward from USA
I've noticed that Nicki is more eloquent, articulate and fluent than Mariah, but Mariah is shadier though, lol. I'm happy they are concentrating more on the contestants and not their personal feuds. I have also noticed that Mariah looks kind of bloated in the face, I hope she's in great shape when they go to the live shows, because she's definitely not in her desired "Touch My Body" video shape she wants to be. I can't help but comparing her to JLo in terms of grace, style and variety on her speech delivery and personal appearance. On another note, I'm dying here of anticipation for "Almost Home". I love the fact that there hasn't been any snippet or preview out there, which builds even more anticipation. I'm also glad that it is going to be a Pop song.

Mariah on Idol (37,180) by Nattalie from USA
Ok, this woman is killing me with her facial expressions. Like I'm cracking up over here. I still think Niki is putting out the best responses.

Christmas in February video (37,175) by Licia from USA
This is the Mariah that I love to see. Silly, goofy, not caring about her image. Just having a good time. It was a funny joke and of course the tabloids, blogs, and magazines are going to make it into something it's not, but it's still nice to see her let loose.

Oz/covers (37,172) by nikki from usa
Wow, a movie directed by the guy who made Xena under Disney with the colorful photographer of LB. Sounds like a visual phenom already. Has anyone else noticed that Mariah's most successful albums have all had the same cover formula? The album will only be successful if the cover follows this formula of 3 rules: 1. Mariah must be looking at the camera/her eyes must be visible, 2. her face must be at/have some sort of angle but must not have her features covered, 3. her lips must be parted but not smiling. Mariah Carey followed this formula, Emotions didn't, Music Box did, so did Merry Christmas, Daydream was artistic using cropping and light/dark to create angles that otherwise wouldn't be there. Butterfly followed, as did #1's, but Rainbow, Glitter, and CB didn't, both versions of TEOM did, E=MC2 not so much but close, and MOIA had 3 Mariah's with 2 breaking rules, and MC2Y broke all 3. Just an observation.

Alomst home (37,171) by Jay from USA
I am really excited for this song. I can't wait to hear it. I wonder if the Letterman interview was meant for Americna Idol promo, but then they decided to push it back until this song comes out. Also, I remember reading that Mariah was doing a photo shoot (when she was wearing that black top/black long skirt/leather jacket) last week with David Lachapelle and the news release has mentioned that he's wokring with her on the video/photos for Almost Home. I am really excited for this era, almost to the point that I'm giddy.

Ask and you shall receive lol. I'm very excited by this now. The 19th couldn't come any sooner. So with Disney, IDJ and Mariah's team working out the promotional tour, surely that could only mean good things, right?

Tommy Mottola (37,168) by Manny from U.S.
Have you guys heard the Tommy Mottola interview on Howard Stern? It is a rare outlook on Mariah's career and their marriage. They say there are 3 sides of the story: yours, theirs, and the real story. It is intersesting to hear Tommy's point of view. He sounds so sincere when he praises her. Also you can tell he is passive-aggressive about certain aspects about their marriage. You guys need to listen to it.

New music (37,167) by George Golden from UK
What's up with the new record? We are not used to waiting this long for a Mariah record. I hope she delivers this time. Her last two albums have been really underwhelming. Just beacause you are on AI doesn't mean you should come out with an average sound. Now is the time to remind people why you are MC. All those rnb hip hop tracks should be discarded, we need fresh retro sonding rnb. I feel Mariah has been stuck in a hip hop rnb rot. It's time to bring back that Mariah that was all about the voice and not about the drama and skimpy outfits. Please Mariah, we need real music back.
