My All live in Sydney, second night (105,332)
by MC1989 from Spain
| |
|
|
I have just listened to this gem. This is the kind of rarities and material that we die-hard fans want her to include on her reissues. The Butterrly Tour has some of her biggest live gems of her career. The little audio clip circulating on YouTube of "Vanishing", sung impromptu during the Butterfly tour is simply incredible. One of her best and most moving songs, by the way. The emotion that Mariah gives off in her phrasing, in her enunciation, in the way she sings. She was really interpreting the lyrics of the song.
During this tour his voice began to suffer noticeably, probably due to lack of technique and the bad habits often mentioned in this forum. And these live shows perfectly capture that vital moment that was so important to her. She still had a very privileged voice, a richness of textures and nuances like few mainstream singers had back then and to this day, I dare say. Agility combined with emotion. Which is what most current singers lack, emotion. I prefer a thousand times something that is not one hundred percent correct and perfect but that goes through you and makes you feel, which is what music is for, and not something millimetrically calculated and studied, neat and correct but lacking in emotion.
The Butterfly era represents a Mariah more alive than ever at a crucial point not only in her career but also at a vital moment of complete change. She was going to therapy, taking acting classes as she describes in her autobiography, renting a flat in New York where she spent time alone without a permanent glam squad. In short, gaining her independence, venturing out to meet new people, throwing herself into love affairs (Derek Jeter) and receptive to change; showing us her own change, her own emergence, after years of feeling controlled and corseted. All these changes in her personal life, in that very specific moment of life that she was going through in 96-97, decisive but ephemeral at the same time, are captured in Butterfly. It's normal that Mariah still feels that this album is her most personal and her favourite. I think at that time she was very connected to the world, to her own experience and that crucial moment of having to define a sound or a style of her own, knowing that she was going to be judged and observed more than ever after her divorce with the great music mogul at that time.
P.S. The only thing that makes me a bit angry about this wonderful "My All" - just like the one she performed in Perth, whose video has been on YouTube since last year and is another gem - is that the first chorus is a playback, because that airy, almost whispered voice of the first chorus is tremendously difficult to do live and with the acoustics of a big concert. But she could have modified it and done it differently. In any case, My All's performances during this time are magical.

RA, you are right. I give Coming Home three stars to be nice. There is nothing special here. There is no Yeah Yeah and Daddy's Home. We waited 8 years for this hot mess. His halftime show may help it to land in the Billboard Top 10.

Hi RA. I heard his new single but it was meh. Without a strong single his album is going to flop. Hoping Mariah has some uptempo bangers. I need two uptempos back to back. After the success of Hiss, Meg The Stallion has a distribution deal with universal where she gets to keep 100 of her masters and publishing and is still independent. I would love something like this for MC.

Nick back at it again (105,329)

Ugh Nick is again talking about a reconciliation not being off the table. Bye Nick, you've had your time, get over it. However the interviewer who was talking to Nick said he'll be talking to Mariah in a few weeks (for an interview), so does that mean we're getting promo? Is it for the show or something else? Interesting.

The Celebration of Mimi (105,328)
by Brandon from USA

Mimi, the buzz around you is very big right now coming off of your very successful Christmas tour and recent tributes. We need this Vegas show to be top notch visually and production wise. Spend that money on a dynamic stage, lights, dancers and ensembles. Keep the same glam team that [you] currently have because they have had your look together for a minute and we like that. Take this time to continue to work on those vocals. You have made progress and with practice I really feel [you] can blow us away again. Lastly, we need [you] to get that energy up for performing. There's no reason [you] should be looking exhausted on stage or stuck in one spot like [you] are glued to the floor. We need energy. I know [you] have in you.
Anyways, good luck Mimi on your new show and hopefully new music coming soon. We love you.

Rainbow25 and other new songs (105,326)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Do you all know about this account called "Carey Insider", anyone knows how reliable they are? They have an ongoing feud with the other insider account, apparent the other account steals info from Carey Insider. Anyways so Carey Insider posted that Mariah is going to release an extended Heartbreak Remix Version, which if true yay because I love Heartbreaker and its remixes but it is also random haha they have the hashtag Rainbow25 with it so I don't know if it's for an anniversary edition? In addition to this they post a lot of songs Mariah registered like "Better Together", cover of "Who's loving you", "Tiiime" and "It's Time", "Hello" and a lot more. I know these should be public records but I don't know how to verify haha. Also says fans of re-recorded remixes are in for a treat. At this point there's so many different projects Mariah has been rumored to be doing haha I'm like how is it even possible.

Did you all see they will be revealing the Billboard Woman of the Year award and gave 3 hints? • She has made Billboard charts history. • She has sold out stadiums on tour. • She has a popular nickname. Before I even saw the hints I was like oh well it's gonna be Taylor again, plus she has been selling out stadiums. But as far as I know she doesn't really have a popular nickname. The first and third applies to Mariah. Did she have sold out stadium tours? Other than Mariah it could maybe be Beyoncé.

It's really tough to figure out. I will go with Queen B first then T- Swizzle. T-Pain gave Taylor her nickname. The only really that I wouldn't go with Mimi is because she has never done a stadium tour. I don't think her voice could hold up with all of the humidity during summer. Could MC sellout stadiums across the U.S. for a stadium tour?

by Edward from USA

I don't blame Ariana, she's just playing the game. Mariah also played it like everybody else did back then, but things were different in terms of quality and value.
We had the Maxi Singles, The remixes that didn't resemble the originals, the discounted singles that were released when songs were at their peak in airplay.
Debuting at #1 was a rare feat, but now it doesn't mean much. Lil Nas X's Old Town Road trumped the One Sweet Day record by putting out many remixes that kept the song going.

It would've been top 10 without all the remixes. A top 10 debut used to be a big deal, it could've been top 5 even, and that would've been great too. But it's all BS now.
Megan got more sales than Ari without a dozen remixes. Yeah, she added some later, but not 12 or so. I really lost respect for Ari for that, even if it was her team. She knows damn well what they're doing.
I can't remember what publication had an article about how a #1 debut doesn't mean what it used to in the age of streaming. Especially when they drop like lead after the first week. Oh well. Hate the game, as they say.

I did not realize that Ariana's "Yes, And?" went to number for a week. I mean, I used to visit the chart every week, especially the late 90's and 2000's. And every Christmas season since AIWFCIY went to No.1. Other than those times, not so often. The truth is, I miss seeing Mariah in the chart, not only during Christmas. I know her prime years are behind us, and it will take a miracle to see her again on top. However, I still believe it is not impossible. Thus, I hope her next release (if there is truly one) will do that for her like another TEOM moment. Well, we can only hope for nowadays, and there's nothing wrong with staying positive.

Yes, And? (105,316)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

I think the only reason this even went to #1 is because her fans were starving for her music and had almost given up hope that she would release anything anytime soon, and because she basically used a controversial topic to boost publicity and get people to listen to it to see what tea she spilt. The controversy being her relationship with SpongeBob and breaking up his family, and using lyrics like why do people care about whose d-word she rides.

I think it's going to be Beyoncé. Eventhough Taylor had the T-Swizzle nickname it was never a "popular" nick name. They just had it for the one collaboration. Queen Bee on the other hand is a well known nickname. Although honestly I don't really get the hype. Or maybe it could be Rihanna. I wish it was Mariah and this year would be the year of Mimi haha.

Ariana "Yes, and?" debuted at #1 but it has dropped to #17 and dropping on its second week and with a negative bullet. Do #1's mean anything anymore? When a song debuted a #1, it would hold its position for at least an extra week or it would stay in the top 5. Things have really changed.

Wow. That was a time when radio airplay and physical CD sales increased substantially each week to keep a song at number one. Pop radio doesn't put new song in heavy rotation anymore during the day. Instead you hear a 2 year old song that was a hit for an artist. Also, radio programmers have ended the Top 5 at five or Top 8 at eight listeners voting countdown shows. The Urban AC is a flip flop between songs each week for the top spot. Plus, I don't think her new album is going to be a huge seller. Too many factors like the Max Martin's outdated sound and releasing a single or two months in advance to insure a huge sales week. I am sorry to say Eternal Sunshine may be DOA. Maybe I am wrong.

While he can do new features, it is unlikely. Super Bowl is a huge moment, he would want to shine the spotlight on himself and his catalogue for the nostalgia plus new album. It's a tight 12 minute schedule too and he has many hits which he'd want to perform so wouldn't have much time to go out of his way to include Mariah.

According to this article Mariah Carey is signed with Melissa at Range Media in the music department. If you read the article you get all the details but basically they use Capitol Music Group for distribution of all physical and digital media and they use Virgin Music for all the marketing and commercial connections. Mariah is still followed by their Instagram page so I'm assuming nothing has changed in the last two years. This will probably be the company releasing her next album. I hope they use her well. My real wish is she would've signed with Columbia at Sony or return to Island Def Jam at Universal for the next album. A return to Universal would also allow her continue the MC30 stuff with them.

That's my line of thinking, if he does bring her out what song would they even perform? No casual listener knows "How Much". So it doesn't make sense for her to be there. I wish she was on Love In This Club Remix where she was supposed to be the original feature. But yes I don't see MC coming on the Super Bowl with Usher. Justin Bieber might be there though.

Usher and MC don't have a hit together so it wouldn't make sense for him to bring her out. I could see him bringing out Alicia Keys to sing "My Boo" because that song was a huge hit. Super Bowl performers don't get a long time to perform and Usher has so many hits that MC isn't needed. MC said herself in an interview that Usher doesn't need her to put on a show at the SB (not verbatim). Plus, their performance styles are different. Usher is very energetic and moves smoothly whereas MC stiffens up on stage and can be somewhat dry. I can't see it guys. Sorry.
