New video (111,540)

I love the album except for this song that I ironically can't play. The only skip for me. It goes nowhere. The video suits the song. I'm glad they didn't put in any money on it. A wasted opportunity though I love the other songs .Paak was involved in.
The three ballads are amazing. Nothing Is Impossible and My Love are stellar.
Although I love HFIA, it would have been a home run if the second verse was done in a straight forward delivery like the first. There was no JD to tell Mumbleriah off I suppose. I prefer her vocals for this and In Your Feelings in the live snippets she posted earlier. Voice sounded fuller and richer. Sounded like she had a bit of a cold the day she recorded In Your Feelings. Still really like it though.
I Wont Allow It is another great one. A love child of Levitating and You Don't Know What to do. People say she's channeling here inner Dua Lipa but Mariah has been doing disco way before Dua Lipa made it popular.
Surprisingly, Mi is my most repeated track so far. Trust Mariah to make obnoxious lyrics sound so ethereal. I feel it is up there with her most honest lyrics ever. She's all about that life now and she's owning it. Like Randy said JD said, she wants to be a rapper. Atleast she makes it sound so damn good.
Confetti and Champagne and Jesus I Do have grown on me. C&C more so. Type Dangerous and Sugar Sweet I have already heard to the ground so I'm skipping them currently though I do really like both.
Overall, quite happy with the album. I could have done with a few more songs for sure. Hopefully the deluxe version she mentioned in her Apple notes will see the light of day and include her Sza collaboration.

It is fantastic. I've listenend to it twice now and I'm really surprised. Somehow I knew this album would surprise me. My first thought on it: I love "Play this song" and "I won't allow it". The whole 70ies vibe totally gets me. "Caution" was modern RnB, this album is mostly retro 70ies soul with modern RnB elements and I guess Randy said Disco-Gospel. I like "Sugar sweet" the solo version by Mariah much better than with the two ladies. It's not so overload. "Nothing is impossible" is a highlight of the album. The lyrics totally gets me and it has such a new tone for a Mariah song, but familiar at the same time. I could somehow imagine this on "Music Box". Strange I know. The cover "My love" is another highlight. I like "Jesus I do", I didn't expected that the gospel song has such a groove. With "Here for it all" the song I had more expectations but with the minute 4 it's almost meditative and I hear a little vanishing vibe. That's cool. I think this will be a song that needs time and will get better and better which each listen. The only song that I don't like yet is "Mi", maybe because of the lyrics. But it's really an interesting album that is different, which is good (I'm happy that there are no rappers this time) but it really feels free and new.

Congrats Mi (111,538)

Congratulations to the two time MTV VMA winner Mariah "Mi" Carey on an album well done. I have been seeing her songs all over social media, looks like people are really happy to have her back. That's what a seven year absence will do. (Caution was only a month long blip so really people have been missing her for probably 10+ years.) "Here For It All" sounds like the album she should've made in 2013 and released on American Idol instead of the MIAMTEC project. This album is mature, grounded and twelve years too late. Imagine this album with the addition of Dedicated and #Beautiful as the first single. (Emancipation-3 anyone?) Fav songs are Mi, Play This Song, Type Dangerous, In Your Feelings, I Wont Allow It, Jesus I Do and Here For It All. Daniel Moore is the closest thing to Walter A for her, but still not anywhere near the heights of Without You, Underneath the Stars, My All. Too bad Sza isn't on this somewhere (Mi?), and maybe Silk Sonic on PTS would've added to the energy. Could've used Pharrell as well. The reviewers aren't being particularly kind to this album so I hope the sales will do the talking. This album is on par with Caution to me. I don't know which one I like better as they are vastly different. If HFIA is her swan song then I think she did it her way, and she did it well. I'm really proud of Mariah. I think it must be the hardest thing in the world to have such a vast fanbase with so many different walks of life. This album really touches on so many different genres to give something for everyone. She could've walked away after Caution and then the pandemic. But she kept thinking of making music. Her pen game is on point, her voice sounds nice and she has her integrity in tact.

HFIA (111,537)

This most definitely is a farewell album. HFIA is a musical mash-up of every introspective album closer she's ever done. Melodically, it's three-parts Music Box, Looking In and The Wind. Very telling that it closes the album. Her way of saying goodbye.

Here for It All review (111,535)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
The style, arrangement, and verses are similiar to other 70s and 80s reconciliation duets like Love Power by Dionne Warrick and Jeffrey Osborne. The man and woman go back forth trying to win back each other by taking the blame for their break-up. The line in the PTS that says "Listen by yourself, please listen by your damn self" is both MC and Anderson saying enough is enough, so go ahead and be alone.

I love this album. I'm in the minority here but I don't like Play This Song - feels like it's missing something and needs lift. My favorite songs are Mi, Nothing is Impossible, Confetti, My Love, Jesus I Do, and Here For it All. Aside from Looking In, I think HFIA and Nothing Is Impossible are her saddest songs she's written. These songs have taken a dagger direct to my soul. It's how I've been feelings for a long time just without the melody or her lyrics to express it. It's so morbid and refreshing to hear her thoughts on her own mortality (it's like a diary entry to her children when she's gone). I feel it's directly related to her mother and sister's death and a warning about her own. I think she's deeply lonely in the world. Hearing her tell SZA that she doesn't have any best friend was very telling. I'm really shook at how confessional this album was. I'll be the first to say it, but this feels like her farewell album. This album makes me so proud of her. I'm glad we waited this long. She's the best artist.

"Rainbows will always remind you of me Please remember to look for them diligently And save a prayer, cause covenants are real, believe in things unseen But if you leave, just whisper something softly to the wind you want Mariah to hear"

I really love the new album, it's so great. Confetti & champagne: title alone had me worried that this might be a cheap up-tempo, but when I heard it, I was amazed by how R&Bish it sounds. Nothing is impossible: is my absolute favorite Play this song: at first that was a bit underwhelmed, but then when I watch it together with the video, it started to grow on me. To be continued.

This album is fantastic. It has the same relaxed vibe as Roberta Flack's classic albums from 1970s. I love that the sound is defiantly throwback and that the album is not trying to be current at all. "Nothing is Impossible", "Play This Song", "Here for It All", and "In Your Feelings" are my favorites. "Type Dangerous" has definitely grown on me and works really well in the context of the album. I listened to the version of the album on Apple Music and waiting for my CD copy to come so I can hear the solo version of "Sugar Sweet" in the context of the album.
This has been well worth the wait, and it definitely tops "Caution" in my opinion. I think keeping the hip-hop influences to a minimum was the right call this time around.

Oh wow, I felt the exact same way about "Confetti and Champagne" - especially when the chorus hits, that sound from the early 90's that was so very brief and then it changed so quick, is captured on this song. When I was listening to it, I suddenly thought of Aaliyah for some strange, strange reason.

Out of all the albums in her catalogue, "Here For It All" reminds me most of the "Emotions" album, which is my second favorite after "Butterfly".
The vocals are, of course, not at the same level, but the up-tempos like "Play This Song" have the same relaxed/fun vibe of "Emotions" and ballads like "Nothing is Impossible" and "Here for It All" hit me the same way as "Can't Let Go", "And You Don't Remember", and "Til The End of Time". "Jesus I Do" gives me a little bit of upbeat "Make it Happen" type energy. Even though "I Won't Allow It" and "Champagne and Confetti" are sonically different, they give me the kiss off vibes of "If It's Over" and "You're So Cold".
This album is truly a resurgence of classic Mariah with a great new twist. Bravo, Ms. Carey.

Is he still on this board? I used to be active on here like the better part of a decade ago and I remember a gentleman named Andrew was also active on here and he had the distinction of slating and despising pretty much everything MC made post Butterfly and I'd just be curious to know if he still holds that position. It's also quite possible that he has long since jumped ship.

It's nice.. specially for the current music scene standard, but I expected better from Mariah. And I don't mean the voice, I know it changes and I'm ok with it. You cannot relate easily to most of her songs like before, there's no structure, no correct rhymes, the verses seems so short, I'm gonna throw it in her medications, I'm sure she was most creative in her hypomania episodes since she has bipolar but medication just blunt those. She has fun cute lyrics that seems like written by one of her kids. I won't allow it has so more potential but its chorus is just one sentence. Nothing is Impossible is the best song on the album. Overall I feel the album is unpolished and each song is missing something.

I had the exact same thought about JID. It flows in the same vein as MIH. At first, I was hesitant to like JID. The song grew on me halfway through. I tend to prefer religious songs as ballads. It took me time to appreciate Mariah's version of Joy to the World. Now I love it. I think the same things are going to happen with JID.

My Love (111,516)
by jaker20 from US

I loved it. One of the best tracks. I wish she partnered with a movie or series to attach the song. It's a beautiful rendition.
@Randy, My Love, she (or he in the case of McCartney) was talking about both, because that's what he calls his wife Linda, that's why he called the song that to carry that double sense throughout the song. And that's pretty much Beatles right then, redundant and simple, Let It Be, All You Need Is Love, etc.
Maybe that's the direction Mariah wants to take in her next chapter, simple and leaning more towards the feeling of it.

Also... this cover of "My Love" by Paul McCartney and Wings is really good. I had been thinking about buying a compilation of McCartney's post-Beatles work, and this is definitely the push that I needed. I really love his song "Young Boy" from the album "Flaming Pie". I know this is a tangent, but I always preferred Paul to John Lennon. Far less pretentious and just thought his solo stuff was way better than John's.
