Maybe Mariah just [has] gotten much better to hide that she lip synchs. But she makes a movement at the very end when she hit that long high note where it looks very natural, it actually looks like she has to make an effort to hit it. I was just thinking after watching the performance again that MC's glory days of a performance like MTV Unplugged are gone. We will never get those days back. She is giving us her best. Global Citizen (101,323) by Randy from USA No one's gonna agree with me but I thought it was mediocre. I believe much of Fantasy, Honey and Heartbreaker was prerecorded. I believe the last chorus of We Belong Together was prerecorded. She was flat on Hero and her background singers were intentionally loud. Even though there are no background singers on the original version of Hero. I thought she looked amazing though. And she didn't need anyone to walk her around the stage. Global Citizen performance (101,320) by Terna from Nigeria I just re-watched it on their YouTube page (in critic mode this time) and I must say I [loved] it, [genuinely]. That inversion of "Honey" and "Heartbreaker" was everything and seeing her pals Jadakiss and Styles P come out to support made me smile, they look good. I haven't been excited about a Mariah live performance in a minute and she did good. Her voice has improved so much, less airy and much more warm and fluid again, than say when she recorded in 2020. The annoying rasp is still there, but not as distracting either, and that "We Belong Together" climax was a "Pow" moment. I applaud Mariah and yes now, I am excited for her next album recording seeing as how drastic her voice has improved. It's probably a lack of confidence, it's like she has to say something else in the middle of a sentence to justify what she's saying, like she's talking to herself in her own head. If you watch the unplugged sessions she's very calm and collected when she speaks, I wish she would learn from these early performances how to command herself on stage as she had great presence. Not sure if you're just joking or not, but I've wanted her to do a cover of "Nothing Else Matters" for the longest time. We Belong Together and Hero had some great vocals. I loved the WBT intro to the remix with Jadakiss and Styles P. I can tell her voice is 80% back because she didn't say "Hey" five different times at the end of a note and plus no forced notes. Just smooth and fluid notes throughout the whole performance. I just wished MC would stop mentioning about the damn lighting with every live performance. People really don't care about how MC looks without the correct lighting. So when the song was released in 2008 I can relate to the lyrics "this is for my people who lost their grandmothers". In my mind that song is Mariah's 19th number one followed by #Beautiful, her 20th, and All I Want For Christmas For You, her 21st number one. I think it was a great single choice. I love the electronic bobbles and tidbits that Stargate used in the background. And MC's vocal adlib on that final chorus is . I still scream it to the top of my lungs every time I hear the song even though my whistle sounds like a tea kettle. I never knew it. Every day of my life I wish. I wish. I wish. I wish. Re: I Stay In Love (101,298) (101,304) by 123 from USA I love this song. It's my favorite from the album and should have been the second single instead the trite Bye Bye. Bye Bye hit #20 solely based on the success of TMB. Had she released I Stay In Love as the second single while she was still doing promotion before she disappeared after her wedding it would have went number #1. I know people on this board hate it and call it a WBT clone, but every non lamb I play it for loves it and asks what album it's from and why she didn't release it. The label halfheartedly threw it out there during the fall with one performance and no radio adds or budget. Such a shame. That album was full of radio friendly songs that went to waste.
