No offense but you are not speaking on behalf of us. The Roof with Brandy was cute (though they sounded too similar, little contrast) and I honestly don't think Mariah is simply going to press play on the existing instrumental and hum. I'm here for anything she's willing to deliver and a refinement of pre-existing work is totally aligned with the 90s dubbing. I just hope for at least 2 new tracks or remixes with less derivative vocals.
Chill, child. We all love MC, and if she wants to re-do some tracks off her best album, it is her right. And it should be [Butterfly]. Daydream is out of the question.
Side note. Decided today to go for Halloween as a monarC butterfly (black leotard, big wings) in honor of the anniversary.

From an interview Mariah did there are no leftovers from Butterfly. She said she used everything she created for the album. She might redo it with duets like she did with [The Roof]. It might be interesting depending on who she duets with and how she restructures the songs. Even if it sounds bad, it will come and go and we always have the original album to listen to.

Um, just no. I speak on the behalf of the Lambily when I say honestly, absolutely no one is gonna be here for any rerecording of that album "Butterfly" whatsoever and Mariah should not make that mistake and think she'll get any support from hardcore fans like me on that issue. Just leave that album alone. Rerecord "Daydream". Instead. Lol. However, unreleased material from that time period with images from the photoshoot we haven't seen. Oh boy. We're all here for that.

Just listened to the album, it's garbage, just a load of mush mash beats with Beyoncé using filthy language and not even singing more just talking over the beat. I was half way through the second song before I realised there had actually been a change in song, it all sounds the same.

Beyonce's best solo album was the "B'Day" album, but she always worked better in the context of Destiny's Child. She's always felt pretty mediocre to me and likes to repurpose ideas from other artists and present them as if they are her own or as if she was the first person to think of them. Her albums and the accompanying visuals always come off way too carefully curated to the point where appears to be a blank canvas for producers/writers/musicians to paint their ideas onto.
And everything has to be this overwrought political statement. It's like... lighten up. You're not some political revolutionary. You're a rich pop singer insulated from the problems of the vast majority of people. And yet the mainstream media outlets literally write about her as if she's Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King, Jr.

I've never really understood the appeal of Beyonce either. She's incredibly beautiful, can sing reasonably well, and knows how to make an impact, I'll give her that. But, her songs always seem to be her just chanting the same line over and over again whilst performing some mind numbingly complicated dance routine. Will she ever make a song like Till the End of Time, Everything Fades Away, Outside, Petals, The Roof? I don't think so. She's either demanding a man pay her bills, bills, bills and put a ring on it, or declaring her independence from said man. Make your mind up.

The last time I listened to Beyoncé was with Destiney's Child. I loved the group. Then her debut was okay, but not overwhelming for my taste. A good RnB album, but nothing more. I will never understand the hype with that woman. Her music doesn't get my heart, pretty boring. I always preferred Alicia Keys or India Arie when she came out. More soul, more voice.

Stacey, I wish you a good start with your new "family members" the kittens. I'm sure they have a lot of energy. I have a male cat, he's relaxed right now listening to Coffee Time Jazz. Cats have good taste.

Why should she ask permission from Kelis who doesn't own the rights nor credited for song? Why should Beyonce get involved with Kelis' beef with Pharrel, that is their issue, not hers. Everybody samples, including Mariah. If an artist want to sample a song, the artist give credit to whomever is the legal owner of the song, not someone who is claiming or disputing those credits. Haters are just using this narrative to discredit Beyonce. No one knows how much "effort" she actually put into it. So what? The fact that she is releasing an album, and this is the best they can come up with is just sad, when some artists aren't even doing, well, anything at all with their careers. Don't worship these artists who sits on a pedestal but hardly lift a finger once they built their mansions, because over time, hard work beats talent, always.

Mariah's just posted to socials #Butterfly25. I wonder what she has up her sleeve for its silver anniversary?
I'm predicting a rerecording of the album a la The Roof with Brandy and Close My Eyes acoustic.

I am doubtful about the amount of "effort" that Beyonce puts into her albums considering most of her songs have closer to ten writers credited. Her production company clearly hires committees of tastemakers to write the lyrics and melodies and then they take the finished product to Beyonce, she changes a word or phrase here and there, and then takes a writing credit for something she had little to no involvement with. Ne-Yo confirmed this back in the mid 2000s when he questioned why Beyonce was credited as a writer on "Irreplaceable" from the "B'Day" album. She was even sued by Des'ree's publishing company for her shameless rip off of "Kissing You" for the "B'Day" album. You can't simply retitle the song "Still In Love" and expect "Des'ree" to be too stupid to notice this. As far as I'm concerned, Kelis has every right to go after Beyonce for not even bothering to ask permission. Beyonce is a serial and repeat offender when it comes to plagiarism and is enabled by people like Pharrell, who swindled Kelis out of revenue for her most popular songs.
And the way she's being praised for incorporating gay ball culture into her visuals as if that hasn't been done over and over by other artists is pretty rich. But I'm sure her production company paid every mainstream media outlet handsomely to praise her album no matter how mediocre the product is.

Kelis is a bit of a cry baby, she should come for Pharrell and not Beyonce. With that said, the record isn't pushing anything, and is not exciting but not every album needs to. It brought Beyonce back to the limelight and into the charts, something Mariah wasn't able to achieve in Caution, which I love by the way. At least Beyonce is actually still putting some effort to her art and creativity and feeding her fans. So, going back to the original post, Mariah really should be creating something and collaborating with talents. If she can produce something like the quality of Caution every 2 to 3 years, I would be happy.

Same. That SNL performance is insane, in a good way. I love the song even more now that we know the story behind it.

I love the album, especially THIQUE and Church Girl. I know Mariah's probably been listening to it. I think Bey may have an album of the year. Universal acclaim.
But yes, I need MC16 too. Even just one good "It's like that" moment.

I don't really think Mariah would appreciate reading one of fans knocking someone else's creative art that they made during the pandemic to bring joy to their fans. The last I checked Mariah and Beyoncé are on good terms and are considered friends. Peace.
