Mariah V McDonald's (99,870)

Hi Lambs. I wanted to know as if anyone has received the T shirt yet? I am in the UK and I have to buy one online, so can anyone tell me what brand label name is the authentic one as I've seen a couple of different names. LYM.

Watching the "Tommy Mottola's Mariah" (part 3), and I wonder, was the last time Mariah wore trousers during the Rainbow era?

These plans were started in 2017 (99,868)

I remember this article where Mariah was slowly braking from Stella and she renegotiated her contract with LA Reid and Sony setting up a label called Butterfly MC Records and the first order of business was an intimate Butterfly tour where she celebrates its 20th anniversary by performing the whole album. It was a way to reintroduce Butterfly to the general public and new audience. Of course, shortly after LA Reid was out of Sony and plans changed where she recorded Caution the very next year instead. I guess she never forgot about the idea and is doing something special for the 25th.

She re-imagined "One More Try". I hope for some new music. The album Butterfly should be left alone. It is perfect since its conception.

Reimagining is a better word choice than reworking. I just couldn't think of it yesterday. Lol. It was hot in Atlanta yesterday.

Migrate could have been easily her 19th #1. Radio was craving those type of club songs back in 2008. I will never know why LA Reid and his team chose Bye Bye. Bye Bye was never a WBT type of song for radio.

Migrate or Caution (99,863)

Which single was the biggest missed opportunity? Was it Migrate which would've been a great second single to continue the momentum. Or the song Caution which could've launched the album making a big difference in success.

The new version of Butterfly could be brilliant like the late night WBT session. Or could be flat like the Close My Eyes 2020 redo. All depends how much effort she puts in on the reimagining. I also think having the original tour concert to go along with it would be nice. Why create a whole brand new album with new songs (like Caution) when she already has these amazing songs ready to go that the new generation has no idea about?

Personally I don't care for Hero, nor do I care for Through the Rain. If we are talking lyrics, which you are, those stand nothing against Outside or half of the Butterfly album.
Who cares? Someone liked Hero. Someone's liked Through the Rain, and another, Outside. I harbor no judgment, but I guarantee that more people know Hero. C'est la vie.

I could not agree more Matty. My thoughts exactly on this single. She used to do that, releasing the song similar to the album's title. That's why I was wondering why. It's the best song from that album IMHO.

I hope MC does do more for the anniversary than the reworking of the songs. I wasn't overly enthralled with Close My Eyes on The Rarities, but the Valentine's mix of We Belong Together was good so there is a "distant glimmer of hope" as the saying goes. I hope she puts out the Butterfly concert and a hi-res edition of the (original) album too.

Caution - what a hook! (99,858)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

Caution (the song) has such an amazing hook. it's so catchy. Caution woulda been a good lead single to introduce the record. It embodies the entire album. Then GTFO, then A No No as singles. Those songs embody the album IMO (even though GML is my fave on the album. 6 mins and 8 seconds is not long enough ).

I listened to Butterfly and watched some television performances from the era all weekend. I have come to conclusion that putting a new spin on Butterfly makes sense now, especially after watching her recent interview posted by YouTuber MariahxLambily. This is MC's opportunity to shine the light again on her most personal album of her career with some high profile duets and producer reworkings of Butterfly. I am guessing that the 25th Anniversary edition will have live instruments showcasing her work in the Butterfly Lounge creating the new edition. MC said that she wasn't allowed to confirm yes or no to what she is working on, but there is excitement in the air. I can only guess that the corporate morgue is going to pour some serious promotional money into the 25th Anniversary edition of Butterfly. I hope that the label produces a total package that is similar to what Arista did for Lisa Stansfield's Affection when it was repackaged with bonus tracks, remixes, video promos, and a live concert DVD. Wouldn't it be cool if Tiesto or David Guetta put a different spin on Fly Away (The Reprise)? We are in store for something special this September.

That song is still so beautiful. We fans may have listen to it too much but I still love "Hero" as well. It's one of her signature songs and the reason why she has become one of the best selling female artists in the 90ies and a global superstar. As cool as songs like "Babydoll" or others are but the non-fans will always say that "Hero" is pure Mariah. I have heard from so many people that they like or even love "Hero" because of the lyrics and the way it was sung by Mariah. I will never get tired of it, especially the live versions and yes it was always a highlight when I saw her at a concert.

I've always enjoyed Hero too, it is a wonderful "signature song" and my opinion of the song hasn't changed and will not change since Mariah said whatever she said about the song. Having said that, I prefer Through the Rain and I think that Mariah and her co-writer would have written Hero differently had they known Mariah would end up keeping the song for herself. I prefer her catalogue from 1995-present and the Christmas albums, it's just a preference thing and we all have different tastes, the same songs mean different things to us all. Let's respect each other's opinions because it's just that, an opinion. We Belong Together and All I Want for Christmas is You may actually be the signature song of a specific generation and Hero is the same for the previous generation. A lot of people still stand by Vision of Love as their favorite and the "signature song" so it's different for everyone and that's okay. Anyways, I can't wait for any new material from her.

Whoa. The spirit of the post was to highlight that whenever I read an article about, or see fans post about, Hero it is always in the negative. The point was that this trend emerged after Mariah expressed her distaste towards the song. I was thinking out loud about how some fans previously stood behind the song until Mariah's own opinions on it changed their minds. The same fans then complain that all Mariah's legacy will now consist of is a Christmas song. Well, that's their own doing. If you don't like it then great. Through the Rain has great lyrics, but the whole song is built on Hero's blueprint.

How dare you having an opinion? I do agree that, lyricwise, "Through the Train" is far superior than "Hero", but I do prefer "Hero". As Terna stated, sometimes less is more, and while "Hero" is kind of generic, its message connected to people and Mariah's delivery was simply flawless. The performance of the song that was used as the video for it, in which Mariah looked like a goddess, represents the Mariah I fell for and the version I also love most. I have to admit though Hero is a song I very rarely listen to, but I do love what it represents in Mariah's career, it definitely was her signature song until AIWFCIY replaced it.

Mariah has the creative advantage to write songs singular and unique to her voice, like GML and to write a more generic Hero. I appreciate both for her. I actually wish she would write more songs that many could sing. That's often the sign of a standard, or one in the making. In these "panoramic" times, she could really work on her song crafting. Hero and All I Want are her only true standards IMO. I've always imagined her recording songs from the American songbook or so called standards, but imagine if she comes out of the pandemic with a recorded version of her own, old and new.

I don't care for Hero. That fact doesn't mean anything about me as a fan or as a human being. Some of you take all of this a little too far. Insulting each other over opinions and making blanket judgments about people over their preferences. Is this entertainment for you all or a courthouse? For me, Hero is generic. Through The Rain is better. The lines "and every time I feel afraid I hold tighter to my faith" and "and when the wind blows and shadows grow close" are better than anything written in Hero. Wait am I now to be sentenced to a firing squad for that opinion? Real problems in the world folks. Get a grip and show everyone love.

Hero (99,849)
by Terna from Nigeria

As the saying goes, "sometimes less is [more]". "Hero" embodies this saying and its impact is undeniable. [It's] a simple song, sung in an easy to sing along key, void of all the extra background vocal parts Mariah ballads tend to have and it works. It is her signature song, well at least one of them, and just one of those songs people tend to know word for word, like a hymn sung generation after generation. It really is a special song and for me what made me a fan. I gravitate towards the version I heard first, the [Proctors Theatre] version and I'm still amazed years later.

Hero discussion moment (99,847)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
Caveat: This board has been sedative, and I want to have a friendly discussion, so please read my post as such. Hero annoys me as a MC fan, I've made that clear over my posts. However I one thousand percent understand why people connect and love the song. I'll speak as someone who planed their pee breaks at the five Mariah Carey concerts I've been too, to line up with when she sung Hero. For me Hero reeks of, "it could have been Celine Dion", "it could have been Deborah Cox", it could have been Gloria Estefan (wink wink). It's so far from what makes Mariah unique as an artist, so far from signature Mariah's invented genre. Can it give me chills, absolutely. That's no question, it's a stunningly executed song. That voice, that upswing, that passion. Is it Mariah creatively liberated, no. Hero could be sung and has been sung by so many. Something like Giving Me Life, or Babydoll can only be executed my Mimi.

Billboard cover - That's Iconic (99,846)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I don't know what to say about the Billboard cover. Mariah absolutely deserves to be Billboards cover girl for this series of legendary women in music, however, whoever that is on the cover of Billboard... I don't know her. Billboard should have hired Thatsiconic.com to do the cover. I have That's Iconic's Mariah Carey Visual Compendium (horizontal print) and his art is stunning. simply gorgeous and well executed and understood. I thought the Christina Billboard cover was Gaga at first sight. The artist of these covers doesn't capture the essence of the artist. It's that simple. I'd prefer they had used the cartoon version of Mariah from the Heartbreaker video (which is still the most legit cartoon version of Mariah to date).
