I have to agree. I’ve always liked the song but ever since the new album came out I have a deeper love for it. It has been on repeat a lot. I love it.

Meanwhile Mimi has a bestseller and is entertaining making a movie during a pandemic. I wonder will it be Netflix or Amazon prime? Either is better than her Hallmark movie attempt.

What is going on here (96,235)

I check the board 3-4 times a day. And all that I am seeing lately is "Deflated/Angry", "Inauthentic/TRL" , "Celine" and "The End Of The Affair". TMOMC was supposed the bring all of us together as one. What happened to the excitement two weeks ago? Don't you still love MC? I know, nobody asked you Robert-Anthony. Lol. Carry on then.

Mariah unfiltered feelings about things (96,234)
by Mirage_Nunez from America
| |
|
|
I mean, what would we expect Celine to say when asked about Aretha/ Divas 08, "Yea she thought she was about to out sing us, so I had to show her I wasn't the one, but we good now." Of course she's going to say something very diplomatic. Like I said before, I love Celine too and think she's one of the sweetest ever, got my entire life to Falling Into You and Lets Talk About Love, but she's fierce, bold, and very confident on stage, if her "ego" comes out anywhere it will be on that stage and in that vocal booth. I say that to say that it's very possible for her to be a sweetheart and also at the same time have a competitive moment on stage with Aretha as well. Judging from Mariah and Carole's accounts collectively I've gathered that there was an obvious energy in the air that Aretha was being a vocal bully that night and Celine was standing up to her (which is the flip side of how MC felt about the ordeal) and like someone else said SNL even mocked Celine in a skit afterwards with her taking over the songs and singing over people's voice.
Of course they exaggerated, but the point is Mariah wasn't just picking on Celine because she racist and "hates white women" (I mean she reveres Cyndi Lauper, Olivia Newton John, [Barbra] etc as well... not to mentioned her white billionaire former fiancé from a few years ago, her white makeup artist so on and so forth), others also felt the same way. Grant it I'm not personally mad at Celine for the simple fact that Aretha was going in that night and holding her own, but I can understand why others ie Mariah was bothered by that as a fan that reveres Aretha and hold her in high regards.
Whether you feel Celine was out of line or well in her right is totally subjective and people will always be split on the subject. Another thing, Mariah was never a competitive vocalist when sharing the stage and has always been a little self deprecating actually when it came to her voice even in her prime ("I don't think I'm even coming close to how Aretha sings this, but this is just my tribute to her" *proceeds to sing Don't Play That Song For Me*) so I do believe she still wouldn't have tried to go toe to toe with Aretha that night (even if she was in Tokyo Dome voice during Divas 08'). I think Mariah's ego and pride lies more in her songwriting capabilities and accomplishments as an artist.
Singing with Boyz II Men and Luther is different, the female singer is expected to do all the high vocal gymnastics as the male voice is there to compliment them, so I didn't see those collaborations as her trying to out sing them or necessarily out singing them at all Luther and Wanya both were up there with her with their voices. Lol.
At the end of the day we all have raw undiluted feelings about things and even come on public forums like this one to express them, yet we're bothered when Mariah speaks her mind and express her true thoughts on a matter. We don't have to share the same opinion as her, but let's not be hypocritical when it comes to her doing or saying things in the same vein we'd say them if we had a grievance about something or someone. I think everyone is just having a moment once the smoke is clear and feelings are settled all the ship jumpers will swim back to board.

The question is why did her mother prevent her from sleeping and then call the New York police when Mariah needed medical attention? The police have nothing to do with medical care. Breaking dishes in your own home and acting a fool on MTV don't require white men with guns to come get you. Lord have mercy, dude.
It doesn't matter if one calls Patricia a racist or not. The label itself doesn't matter. Look at how she uses the power differential that comes with her position in race hierarchy. She has plenty of experience navigating that structure and knew what she was doing.

I agree, I certainly wouldn't say this was Mariah actively lying to her fanbase, more that these experiences are incredibly personal, private, and difficult to talk about. My friends and family certainly don't know all my troubles, nor would I ever wish to burden them with them either. Given how harrowing and awful these experiences were, and that many involved her family, it is completely understandable to me why she wouldn't be talking about this publicly.
But, for those of us familiar with her discography, she has been telling these stories, vicariously through her music. It was all there, in black and white, right before our eyes and ears. Now those songs are interwoven throughout the memoir to further illustrate that. Close My Eyes, Looking In, Petals, The Roof, Outside etc.

Inauthentic / TRL (96,228)
by Andrew from the United Kingdom

The perfect word to describe parts of that book. Case study: TRL.
Mariah asks you to believe that there is absolutely nothing wrong with her car-crash TRL performance. Anyone with working eyes and an intellect can see she is off the scale mentally, exhibiting alarming behaviour. Mariah wants to rewrite this in her favour.
Watch TRL and put soapy plates in this person's hand in the middle of drama in a house. Then tell me it was racist and wrong to institutionalise her. Who is buying this bullshit?

I’m still reading the book while listening to her audiobook, I was really surprised with how much attention the build up to her relationship with Derek and then commencement received, for her to then just give a paragraph about how they just didn’t work out.
No details about what went down or insights into the two stars trying to make it work complications. As a reader that kinda irked me, why dedicate several chapters to just cut the conversation off. Maybe this is part of the lack of self awareness narrative

I'm just gonna address the why now part. Do you know of any mixed race superstar of Mariah's stature who was vocal about any issues regarding race in the 90s? 2000s? Or how about any other LGBTQ+ actor who was out and proud and loud other than Ellen? These are issues we can talk about openly these days, but back then, you would be crucified for getting too political or for actively speaking out on anything controversial. Hence, by your logic, every public figure back then was busy maintaining some sort of illusion, suppressing their thoughts and feelings, because that's how they kept their career alive - by sticking to what they do best and not pissing people off. Should we single Mariah out for simply playing by the rules of the game back then?
This may not be the best analogous situation, but if an actor who has always been rumored to be gay his entire life just decided to publicly come out 30 years into his career during Pride month and openly speak about his troubles of being in the closet in Hollywood, will you question his intentions and think he's just doing so to revive his career because gay rights are more widely recognized today? I've been a fan of Neil Patrick Harris since I was a kid watching reruns of Doogie Howser, M.D. and never felt betrayed or lied to when he came out much later. I don't think his many years of not being out whilst being a public figure was a disservice to the gay community. Same with Ricky Martin and Matt Bomer.
Since you believe in respect for all people regardless of age, gender, race, etc., I'd think it would also come natural for you to respect the level of comfort and self-acceptance that is required for people to publicly discuss potentially divisive/controversial aspects of themselves, and that sometimes, getting there takes time. Mariah is clealy still on that journey with her identity issues, she just happened to publish some of it.

Thank you Mariah for sharing your truth. Also congratulations for selling over 400k worldwide in a week. That's crazy. I hope we get more interviews and signed books and stuff.
The response has been unbelievable amazing. I feel like this era is about making people fall in love with Mariah once again and repair her image. And I hope after the Christmas domination we get a uptempo lead single in January.

The Rarities album (96,224)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
The PR team should have released the Tokyo Dome concert as a digital format and on YouTube during the #MC30 Friday instead of including it in the The Rarities.
Imagine streaming 150 minutes versus 30 minutes of music these days? Obviously, you won't get many rotations in 24 hours, 7 days a week. Thus, Mariah could have squeezed in 3 more songs, such as There For Me, Runway, Skydiving, etc. to enhance The Rarities and increase its sales/streams. What a missed opportunity.
P.S. Did anyone see the typo in TMOMC saying I'll Be There is the 5th #1? Even Mariah lost rack of her own #1s. It's her 6th.

Let me just give an example of journalistic integrity.
Mariah: "Let’s not forget [the Glitter album was released on] September 11, 2001."
No interviewer responds to this properly. Would the proper response not be to ask why Glitter's first week sales were about 120,000 and Jay-Z's Blueprint album, released the same day, were about 420,000? It is an apt question.
In response to the "Hellooooo, it was a soundtrack, darling" (in faux "British" accent often used to dismiss the plausible), would the proper response not be to ask why the album was promoted as a Mariah Carey studio album, why it was billed nowhere as a soundtrack and indeed why it didn't include "OST" anywhere on the cover? Is it fair to ask why it has been redesignated in retrospect?
To the insistance that "Helloo, Loverboy reached Number 2 and was the highest selling blah blah that year", would the proper response not be to quote the heavily reported heavy price reductions on the single which led to the upsurge in sales?
There is no journalistic integrity anywhere.
Yes, Mariah may relate her own truth. But, I am sorry, there is obvious bullshit going on here and lambs and fans alike are not stupid. Don't waste our time with this crap rewriting of history.

Would I be forgiven for thinking this whole interview nonsense? This is not an interview, this is a promo for a book. Mariah is challenged on absolutely nothing. Did she think she needed to be hospitalised? No. Okay. Let us quote and cite galore as to why she did need to be and ask her for receipts? No? No. This is absurd nonsense and not worth anyone's time.
I see two successful black women (Mariah's a "black woman who is also mixed race" now), multi-millionaires, groaning about how bad the world is, and how mean people can be. And I see nobody, noone, really grilling and presenting contradictory eveidence and asking for real explanations.
Total trash.

Jade, your post is spot on. Beautifully said. I'm not sure how active I'm going to choose to be here in the future for a lot of the reasons you've touched on. None of which for me are really about Mariah. I'll always enjoy her music but the constant arguing on here gets really taxing at times. I often wonder if people have forgotten how to have respectful conversation that allows for differing viewpoints without turning toxic. Mariah is no saint. I don't like everything she has chosen to do, and I don't always agree with her. If she wants real lasting happiness she will need to become more self aware and accountable but I'm not into vilifying her either that requires way too much effort for someone I don't know and will likely never meet. It is too exhausting quite frankly. Sony's Mariah has been gone for years. It isn't new.

She has discussed her experiences with racism before, some of them at least. But she said this book was the first opportunity to lay it all out, because of all the complex issues that cannot be explained in various interviews. I know I've heard many of those stories in bits and pieces. Anyways.

I hear you, I really do. I am saddened by the racial abuse she experienced as I would be for anyone I know. My gripe is that I felt as if I really was part of her family. I was a lamb. I wasn't out in the rain waiting to see her, but I bought everything she ever did (in duplicate) and if anyone bad mouthed her I would rush to her defence.
I genuinely feel as if everything I knew was all a lie, it was fake and the person I thought I knew doesn't exist. It isn't about race, or Celine Dion or the type of music she wants to make. It's about authenticity. I know who I am warts and all and I get that she is Mariah Carey and I am a nobody, but for years I felt that if we actually met we would have a splash and put the world to rights.
I didn't come to this conclusion because I'm a psycho stalker, I came to this conclusion because this is how she has portrayed herself to us. I now know that being real over a glass of shandy booze couldn't of happened because I live in a world of reality and she just doesn't. So I ain't gonna bad mouth her or wish her harm. It's just my time to leave Mariah's world.

Ariana is releasing her new album this month. Artists and record companies are no longer creating 3-6 months promotional plans post Covid-19. They are just dropping new albums at what I am calling a 3-2-1 promotional plan. Tweet about your new album and drop in 1-3 weeks. Taylor, Bryson, and Trey all have used the 3-2-1 promotional plan this year. And now Ariana is using it.
