Yeah, those Your Girl "remixes" are probably the worst she has put out for MC30 so far. There's just no redeeming aspect there. It's obviously a product of laziness - but even if we get creative and think of other possible reasons why such atrocious poorly and hastily copy-pasted no-mixes should ever see the light of day (let alone be part of a career retrospective series), there's just no good alternative reason either.
These types of lazy "remixes" have become increasingly popular once streaming started becoming huge. Artists figured that if a another mix of one song is not too different from the original version, the charts are more likely to count points for both versions as one, hence boosting the chances of the song to chart higher. That's how Willow managed to dethrone AIWFCIY for a week last December. Even if that success is what Mariah's trying to replicate here (it isn't, it really is just a product of laziness), it's not like Your Girl is gonna chart anyway. Fly Like A Bird mixes were shelved for this bootleg quality crap? I guess we should still be grateful she's doing these EP releases at all, but man is this a disservice to the original song and somehow even its parent album.
Moral of the story: if an actual decent remix does not exist, don't force it. Because cheesily echoed rap ad libs conveniently tacked on parts of the song where Mariah doesn't sing does not a remix make.

The work he did with the Weeknd last year was insanely good. He and Mariah would make beautiful music together I believe. Max Marin I should've put in the message.

Haha thanks. I actually completely stopped writing a while back for quite a long time because I had a lot of personal stuff going on (nothing bad just a lot of changes) so I was focusing on it but I used to always check the message board and see all the familiar and new names posting. I've missed writing here and sharing my love for Mariah with other like minded people. Glad to be back and glad that my account didn't get suspended or anything haha.

The thing is Mariah is signed with RocNation as her management. She got Melissa assigned because Melissa was a RocNation employee. Now that Melissa left but Mariah is still with RocNation, they'll be separated. Mariah didn't sign Melissa herself, RocNation did.

If this is going to be what it is for the rest of the eras I would've preferred she had done this all in 2020 before Christmas and 2021 could be looking towards the future.

Usually you stay with your manager no matter where they go. That is if you're happy with their work.

You beat me to it. Mariah and her team should be embarrassed by the quality of those Your Girl "remixes" (if you could even call them that). It seems as though they ripped them right from a low quality mixtape and uploaded to iTunes. Again, embarrassed.
I also listened to the BOTH mixes released last week though my headphones and the Junior Vasquez mixes are poor quality masters just like on the one CDR that was released. I had that promo CDR and I was really hoping these official releases would have corrected those issues.
What a let-down now for two weeks in a row.

In a world where record labels invest only as much funds to your next project as based on your last one (“what have you done for me lately”) it doesn’t look good that Mariah will get the budget or the keys to work with the top producers in the industry. We know JD will always be by her side but with her influence and connections I’m sure she could still gather a good group for her next album. Narada Michael Walden just commented on her Shawn Mendez post saying that they should create a new by together and to reach out. So even if Sony doesn’t set up those expensive producer/writer camps or shells out for Cardi B and Drake, she can still create a mega hit album if she chooses to. PS. Walter would also be game.

"The Emancipation of Mimi" era is Mariah Carey's perfect era. Everything went as planned or even better, from the single choices to the live performances - some of her best live vocals were from this era, she had something to prove that she was far from over and boy did it show. I believe this was the album that finally gave Mariah her respect and moved her from icon to legendary status in the industry. I can honestly say it is the biggest comeback ever in the music industry until date. I am loving today's MC 30 as this is easily my best Mariah era, and the one I cherish the most. That record has never left my playlist and it never will. Happy new year guys.

TEOM appreciation post (97,243)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Can we take a moment to appreciate the force (I would write in all caps but Eric would despise that) that is TEOM. This era was everything. I'm not just talking about the amazing songs it gave us but what it symbolizes for Mariah. This album was truly an "emancipation" for her, and what a comeback. People had written her off, she was almost being turned into a legacy artist. And she comes rising like a Phoenix. Everything about this era was just so fabulous and powerful. The title, the powerful stance on the cover, the videos, the fire starter single that's ILT. "I came to have a party"- and she wasn't lying. The world was dancing to Mariah's tunes. She looked fierce, you could just tell she was feeling herself from her attitude. Such a contrast from "Charmbracelet" where she looked timid and shy. I'm trying to imagine the feeling she felt proving everyone who had written her off wrong. Every time I revisit that era be it through rewatching the videos or live performances or interviews, I just feel so proud of her all over again. Also huge shout out to the music videos, each and everyone single video was top notch, perfectly executed and still look fresh to this day. I'm so glad for TEOM, Mariah needed it, the lambs needed it. When Mariah sang "it's my, it's my night" she meant it. It was her time to shine, and that part always puts a smile on my face.

Thanks for this. Yeah, it's such a shame any FLAB mixes haven't been included, but I'm grateful for the "Your Girl" remixes. Again, finding it odd that we're getting instrumentals this week, but didn't last (The One, for example). And I suspect that whoever's running MC30 this year isn't the same as last. It's just that bit sloppier and not as pulled together or polished as when it started. From much more glaring remix omissions, down to the fine details; dates, layouts, text. They had to go back and re edit/reorder the entries on Spotify last week. This week, UK Spotify is currently a mess of MC30 and TEOM singles. I trust it'll get sorted, but I miss the days when her promo was polished and on point.

It was a cute and funny exchange, especially when you take into consideration that Shawn is just 7 years into his career. It also is Mariah's own way of asking "Who you calling old again?" Haha. Even Charlie Puth and Trevor Noah had to jump in. I guess Mariah knows Charlie as well, with him in the comments wanting to know which particular song/s Shawn was listening to and Mariah responding.

I stated I don't believe (the article) and, considering you were using what was written to make a point, I welcomed you prove me wrong (i.e. - actual evidence, not a gossip column). You linked me back to the gossip column (as if I'd asked you *where* you'd read it), and did so with attitude, speaking on behalf of Eric (as if that's your place). People be trifling this week, and "I sure ain't the one".

Mariah’s interaction with Shawn Mendes (97,237)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Mariah had a cute interaction with Shawn over social media. Shawn posted this mentioning Mariah in the caption and Mariah "liked" it and commented on it asking what song he's listening to, then she went on to post her own version which Shawn shared on his timeline. It's cute and Shawn is officially someone Mariah "knows" now.

It wasn't directed at you, to be honest it was a general statement because every now and then there are people who'll fight tooth and nails saying Mariah doesn't care about the charts, she has nothing to prove and that she's just releasing songs for fun, when in truth she probably does care about it more than we do. She craves that validation.

Just to clarify. I never said I didn't think Mariah cares about getting another #1. She lives for that, it's basically her entire career. I just personally am not going to base everything off of her obtaining another #1. My personal favs have always been the album cuts anyway.

Emancipation EP's for #MC30 (97,234)
by cBerr from Canada

While this can't be 100% confirmed as I don't think they have been officially released yet anywhere (even in Australia as per time zones), but the "reported" EPs for the Emancipation era are bleak.
The biggest and most glaring omission is the lack of anything for "Fly Like A Bird" - I can't even know where to start with this disappointment! Tracy Young, Maurice Joshua, David Harness. Could have been an epic remix package as Tracy and Maurice are known for multiple club cuts, edits and/or dubs.
Secondly, the omission of the Moran & Rigg mixes {Radio, Club & Mixshow) to "We Belong Together" is just as disappointing. I had heard lossy MP3 versions and was very impressed.
No SugarDip remixes to "Say Something". SMH
I guess we're supposed to be happy it's made up for with two rapper features on "Your Girl". For which she uses the FLAB cover photo. Way to troll us. Thanks so much.

RJJ12, obviously Mariah wants to be a financial success with whatever label she is on as it leads to more money for her however the details of her deal were never disclosed so she may never even had taken an advance and wouldn't have any monies owed to the label, she may have negotiated a higher percentage paid to her on any profit. The money (from financiers) put up for the production/promotion of a product would be the only profit/loss, so unless something gets some organic movement the label will not feed a promotional budget.
Mariah went on the 'Caution Tour' in support of the album as it was the only way it would have received additional press. Whenever Mariah has ever released a new project that is when you see the awards coming out like Artist of the Decade, Billboard Icon Award and so forth as it is just another thing to get the mainstream media to write about her current project.
I do not see Mariah personally funding a marketing campaign, her money maker is her royalties from her catalog and any partnerships she makes, as in AppleTV+, Walkers Crisps, Hostel etc. (of course Christmas).
Caution in retrospect didn't cost nearly as much as one may think; ODB was paid 15k for his rap on the Fantasy remix (you can google it), Collaborators are getting (depending who) on average 40k-100k per track in addition to any writing royalties. Mariah even spoke in the Quest podcast about how recording has changed so much and most of the time may not even be in the same country with a collaborator.
I agree Mariah does better with a large promotional budget but were DOA with expecting her to fund it.
Mariah like it or not is a legacy artist and her contract would be nothing like the ones with Def Jam, Columbia (1990) or EMI, the most were going to see is social media ads (like we did with TMOMC) and Spotify launch ads in Times Square; don't forget the occasional Empire State Building light show.
If I win a huge lottery jackpot I may just fund a promotional campaign myself. Ha ha!
