Re: Through The Rain cover (95,532) (95,536) by Bill from the UK
This is almost as terrible as the So So Def Remix of Say Somethin'. Anyone know who was featured on that?

Calvin Harris would make this go #1 and be her 20th.

I read the comment made by Eric then listened to 10 seconds of the song, I was reduced to tears of laughter. Thanks for the warning.

Wow. I love it. I can't wait to play The Rarities on my birthday trip to Virginia in late October. It is nice to [hear] how her vocals sound so effortlessly. Her enunciation of each word is [unparalleled] to other singers. I am ordering my vinyls Monday night. I have already ordered the Japan edition of The Rarities and 2 copies of Mariah Carey from an indie record store in the Atlanta area and the Wal-Mart exclusive.

Through The Rain cover (95,532) by Lafa from Sweden
A cover of Through The Rain by a man. Acoustic. [Warning: This is really really awful.]

Strongly agree. I mean it's Mariah, so to some level we knew the vanity shot montage was coming, but this is still weird and awkward, even by her standards. The worst part is that the song's lyrics paint a much better visual than the video does, and for this one, she definitely should have gone the obvious route. Whatever happened to interspersing it with videos of our frontliners instead as a tribute to them? It's not innovative, but it would make much more sense and not leave viewers wondering what the hell they just watched.

Also, isn't it just sad that the last real video that had an interesting concept, was fun, and at least had Mariah step away a bit from her comfort zone and be a little less serious was Up Out My Face from a full decade ago? Since then the desperation to cling to the sex symbol persona has been top priority to be on full display that we have already come to expect it every single time she releases a video.

Here We Go Around Again (95,530) by Bill from the UK
For those who don't mind being spoiled ahead of the album release, MC posted a longer clip of Here We Go Around Again on Insta. Honestly, hearing fresh 1990/debut era vocals is just astounding. From what I've heard this song sounds so, so good.

Ooooh the comparison to I Don't is a bit rough innit? That was a visual assault.

The only backseat of car video worth watching is Emotions.

Every song (95,527) by Todd from Sydney, Australia
I'm gearing up to spend 14 days in hotel quarantine. 14 days with no outside. So I've decided at one point I will listen to every single song Mariah has recorded (even the shit ones) in the hope I rediscover some old loves.

Here We Go Around Again (95,526) by enwar00 from usa
Here We Go Around Again has to be the most 80s sounding song I've ever heard from Mariah. In a dated 80s kind of way. But I'm still here for it and will dance and bop to it on the most 80s kind of way. I'm so excited for The Rarities. And especially because Do You Think Of Me, Everything Fades Away, and Slipping Away will finally have a home and be more accessible.

Save the Day (95,525) by Lee from UK
This music video feels like "I Don't" crossed with "I Want to Know What Love Is". I'm confused about how this song has been linked with a tennis tournament. The lyrics just do not match in anyway. Everything about this song and the video seems so haphazard. Remember when Mariah said she couldn't bear to make another video in denim shorts? I wish she'd apply that to hanging out in the back of cars.

Save The Day video (95,524) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Not too much to say about the video. I thought she was going to be overly sexy, but I'm happily surprised that she wasn't, and I loved the curly hair

Re: The Rarities tracklist (95,522) (95,523) by Bill from the UK
My sentiments exactly. What bright spark at Sony selected the album versions of Breakdown and Sweetheart when perfectly the good Mo Thugs and Story remixes were available is beyond me. And Crybaby should have been kicked off for I Still Believe/Pure Imagination. But who am I?

The Rarities tracklist (95,522) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
As fans of course we want her entire unreleased catalog ideally dropped all at once in one perfect package. But of course Mariah's also a businesswoman and cannot give everything away. Also, maybe she's just not comfortable releasing all of them yet. And of course there's the technical side of things such as licensing, etc. that may complicate stuff. Yes, having previously released b-sides on there taking up space that should have been allotted to actual unreleased material is a little disappointing, but on the other hand it's actually nice that they now have a compilation to belong to. It makes Mariah's lesser known music more accessible to the public, which is the goal. And hey, at least it's not as bad as putting the album versions of Crybaby, Sweetheart, and Breakdown on The Remixes just because they happen to have some rapping in them.

I'm just glad there are more unreleased tracks than I expected. Half of the album - that isn't too bad. She's gotta save some for future compilations. Besides, I'm just grateful that Mariah is actually releasing this stuff while she's still alive. At least she still has control over what she wants to put out. That's way better than what happened to Michael Jackson, where I doubt he would have even allowed to make public much of the stuff released in his posthumous discography, let alone have them be horribly reworked by producers he himself possibly would not have chosen to work with.

Should there be a Rarities 2, at least we know there still are old songs that can still make it in there along with other bonus tracks from her latter albums. Maybe not as exciting or impressive quality-wise, but it's still Mariah, so we will still lap that up.

Re: Save The Day video (95,519) (95,521) by Bobby A from United States
You all should know by now that Ms. Mariah Carey is going to do whatever she wants to do. Tommy is the reason she is like that. I think if he wasn't so controlling early in her career, she would actually listen to other people and make better visual video choices. And you know her baby Brian ain't going to say a word because he is living the good life. I wish that I had a superstar boyfriend paying for everything.

Re: Glitter (95,518) (95,520) by Bobby A from United States
It is a shame. You are so right, Bill. Treacle on YouTube told me this morning that maybe it is because Virgin won't pay to have Glitter produced on vinyl like Sony is paying to have the 16 other albums produced on vinyl. I am so glad that I scooped up a Glitter DJ promo vinyl copy last November. It is going to be a nice Christmas to decorate my study with all of MC's 18 vinyl records on the wall.

Don't judge too soon. She's renaming the song to "I'm feeling Myself".

Re: Glitter (95,509) (95,518) by Bill from the UK
I was thinking the same. My theory is when she recently acquired the rights, maybe it was for digital/streaming only? Maybe she didn't obtain the rights to distribute a physical version? It's a shame because a bright pink double vinyl for Glitter would have ruled haha.

I cringed from the little I saw. Did not want to see more, which is unlike me. I closed the clip. I like your front line covid concept (it would have matched the message of the song).

Re: Save The Day video (95,496) (95,515) by Brad from USA
I agree that the car/vanity angle of the video is quite disappointing. That said, I think it does have to be looked at as a commercial for the USTA more than as a creative production. She is sitting between the two tennis stadiums so I guess it makes sense for her to be in a car, like in a parking lot? But yeah my dead cat could've come up with a better concept for sure. On the flip side, it exposes the song to a broader audience than just us lambs and hopefully Mariah was well paid for it. Sooo. Enjoy it for what it is.
