Re: Dear Delulons (95,273) (95,283) by Randy from USA
The documentary you posted had me until he spoke about 1997-2001 and didn't mention her lipping for the first time because of vocal stress. She lip synced 90% of Butterfly on Oprah and then was able to sing it wonderfully, though struggling, on SNL and David Letterman. In 1998 everything was live and raspy. In 1999 and 2000 all high belts were lip synced to the record as well as most whistles. In 2001, post breakdown she sounded smurfing amazing at the "A home for the holidays and the Radio City Music Hall show. I think her voice had a lot of rest. But for Charmbracelet she was back to all high belts being lip synced to the record as well as most whistles. That was the first and last time I would see MC in concert because I felt she was like the Wizard of Oz. For TEOM and beyond the strategy has been to lip sync the belts using a recorded raspy track that doesn't sound like the record so she's more inconspicuous. That 2006 Grammy performance is the most masterful cut and paste lip sync I have ever seen. I stand by all of this observation except one curious outlier. Her impromptu for the fans at Jimmy Fallon in 2014. She sounded smurfing amazing. And for the first time I thought it's not just vocal deterioration but maybe nerves playing into awful live performances. Overall though, I hope and wish MC will address the voice in her memoir. But something tells me vanity will overpower her willingness to be truthful about it.

MC30 iTunes purchases (95,282) by MC85 from Canada
Hey all. Forgive me if this has already been discussed and I might be the only one still actually purchasing music on iTunes, but I've been having a bit of trouble. So I've bought everything pre-Daydream EP's every Friday but for a number of them, even though the entire album/EP downloads, I can't play certain tracks either on iTunes itself or once I've transferred to my iPod (I'm old school yes). Like if I queue up any of these tracks it just automatically skips to the next one. Out of 13 tracks on the AYNAF EP only five will actually play for me. Anybody else had this problem? Thanks in advance.

Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,278) (95,281) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Toddlicious, I agree. I want Everything Fades Away on Spotify. It is one of the best things she has ever done. Music Box, much like the life of every non-American Mariah Carey fan, is not complete without it.

Jereministroke (95,280) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Sleeping sound in your beds as you may have been, comforted in hope that Jereministroke, in what was his last attempt to have the whoopee cushion that was permanently lodged in his throat removed to a Mariah Carey song, had finally succeeded in having it heimlich-manoeuvred out by the seemingly hung-like-a-horse gimp constantly humping him balls-deep in a loose 3/4 time, listen to this and realise there is, in fact, no sleeping soundly, the nightmare is back and sleep is for the dead.

And therefore lucky.

Claiming new and unsuspecting innocent victims in his, her or its quest to permanently paralyse the bones of the inner ear of every human being on Earth -  much like the paralysis of the left arm and left side of the face that can so vividly be imagined occurring to Jereministroke on the sustained low notes he, she or it attempts to hold whilst not coughing out an anal prolapse - the nightmare is certainly real.

Or could it be after all that this is the original recording Mariah made of Save The Day before her vocals were engineered and will be featured on The Rarities Vol. II alongside 13 other songs everybody has actually already heard anyway plus the All In Your Mind demo included so Bill doesn't have a fit and set fire to his printed volumes of handwritten notes of all the barcodes ever printed on Mariah Carey cassettes between 1992 and 1998?

Either way: FFS.

Re: Butterfly Bossa Nova Remix (95,277) (95,279) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Yeah what I meant by rarity was not its availability as a commodity but the way it was produced as a remix, which you also have mentioned. It is pretty different and defies the expectations that come with the term "remix", which most really tend to immediately associate with either hard-hitting beat-oriented reconstructions or rapper features.

Side note: it's amazing how much Mariah stuff is more available to certain markets. I know this is mostly territorial, and although East and Southeast Asia is are almost always generally the top recipients of the best bonus material, that's really about 95% Japan than the entire region. In our country, singles and other formats available in some stores internationally basically aren't available here and the only real way of anyone getting them from where I am is online. And since shipping costs to the Philippines can get quite exorbitant, it's more expensive to be a collector here - a fact that I have come to accept and so I only have the CDs/cassettes of the albums. And so I really appreciate when y'all share stories about your collections because even if I can't relate, it's almost as if I could live vicariously through your experiences.

Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,261) (95,278) by Todd from Melbourne, Australia
Everything Fades Away needs to be included. It's one of her best songs and it pains me that it's not in streaming services, same with Slipping Away. The alternative All In My Mind doesn't particularly interest me, so I'm not too concerned if that teaser doesn't eventuate into anything. If the list is legit, I'm most excited to hear the cover of Out Here On My Own.

Re: Butterfly Bossa Nova Remix (95,276) (95,277) by Bill from the UK
For me it's not so much the rarity. I was fortunate to obtain the promo CD in 1997/1998 for not that much money at a record fare. What I like about it is how different it is. By that point, the standard Morales dance mix was becoming cliché, with the usual programmed drums, ostinato keyboards playing major chords, and unaccompanied vocal breakdown. The Bossa Nova was like a breath of fresh air, and it's still never really been bettered for originality.

Re: Butterfly Bossa Nova Remix (95,266) (95,276) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
It's nice as it does eliminate the extra flourishes from the original that steal focus from the vocals, but to me it doesn't quite live to its title as it does somehow lack the certain jazzy lilt, sway and gentle undulation that's often associated with slower bossa nova tracks. It's really more of a string-laden, stripped down (almost truly acoustic) arrangement, and what makes it stand out among Mariah's vast remix discography is less about it being superior to most but more so because of its rarity, which in turn makes it memorable.

Haha. I've been trying since 1999 to use "delectable" in a sentence.

Chadwick Boseman (95,274) by Terna from Nigeria
My spirits were brought down this morning, logging into social media to see this news, it was the first thing I saw actually. It's funny how these celebrities who are under the spotlight for the most part of their lives still go through stuff like this suffering in silence, to think he was already sick in [Black Panther], goes to show we really don't know and can't say looking from the outside in. May he rest in perfect peace.

There's a interesting little doc where they talk about Mariah's voice that I think anyone who is interested or debates the voice should watch. They give good insight as to what she was good at and what she wasn't and unhealthily habits she has.

It's 31 days till September 29th. Just saying. It's my birthday and you all should mark that date for more than one reason. Haha.

Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,262) (95,271) by Bill from the UK
In fairness, there is an awful lot of material that hasn't been released before if the tracklisting is real. The three b sides, whilst most of us have them on singles, fans have been screaming for them to be more readily available than they are, especially Slipping Away. Personally I'm looking forward to having them all together. As for All In Your Mind Take 2, I'm holding out hope of a deluxe 30th edition of the debut that will feature demo recordings and alternate takes. That would be an amazing way to end MC30, by going right back to where it all began.

Yep, one of the best mixes she ever did and in my top ten for sure.

Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,257) (95,269) by Warr-en-Peace from United States
One thing that could point to the track list being pure speculation is that Save The Day is listed as "Save The Day (with Laury...)" whereas we know from the official release of the song that it appears as "Save The Day (with Ms. Lauryn Hill)" on the album - note the addition of Ms. Therefore, we know this is an incorrect detail on the "leaked" track listing.

Not to also point out that anyone can create and rename a list of audio files on a computer and make it look like something "leaked". I wouldn't pay this track list much attention.

Ok I'm stoked for this. It seems pretty accurate, and the only differences from what I had gathered is Can You Hear Me? I had as the second track, and either Hypnotized or Here We Go Round Again as the first track. Also, I had Mesmerized as track 12. I was also unsure of tracks 5, 6, and 15 and thought maybe they would be Ecstasy, Panic The City and The Crave Song. I guess we shall see.

Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,261) (95,263) by enwar00 from usa
I am extremely happy that Do You Think Of Me, Everything Fades Away, and Slipping Away are being included on this album. I prefer them over an alternate take of All In Your Mind. Since people are wanting that hopefully she'll put that on an expanded or deluxe version of the debut album or something of that nature. Who knows what else may be in store.

Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,257) (95,262) by cBerr from Canada
I can't even. If that is the tracklist - I'm out. I will not get taken by the bait and switch again. She said on GMA, and I quote:

"Basically I found stuff in my vault, that I had either started to work on a long time ago and never released, or that I wanted to finish mixing or whatever but, they are songs that have not been previously released."

Again, "not been previously released". That is all I have to say.

BTW, since it's still technically part of the same point - does anyone think the Underneath The Stars video will ever see the light of day or were we just being trolled?

That track-list looks real, but if it were so, where did "All In Your Mind, Take 2" be? Why tease us with it? I don't need 'Everything Fades Away", it was already on a CD and easily available. At least "Do You Think Of Me" and "Slipping Away" were B-sides.

Hope this is true. Yup, I saw this make the rounds last week as well. And if there's anything I have learned in the last decade, that's to never underestimate redditors. That's why groups such as the Reddit Bureau of Investigation exist. Good enough to unearth solve decades-long cold criminal cases and mysteries better than proper authorities, I'm guessing perhaps at least a few lambs are there, and if there's anyone more than capable of leaking the tracklist, it's them.

Sad Yours ft JT isn't there. But if this is accurate, pretty good tracklisting.
