Re: Another take on the voice (95,218) (95,221) by Will from England The thing with writing is that unless you are surrounded by new inspiration, ideas and expressions, or you are writing about a personal experience from which you can draw some emotion from, you will at some point struggle to find new ways to write about something that everyone else is writing about, which for 90% of Mariah's catalouge is love. When you're young, you have so much to say, so many new ways to express an idea or a concept. But after 30 years, after writing so many songs that have been released, and also kept in the vault, can you still write the same way as you did five years ago and keep it fresh? I doubt it. Caution was Mariah surrounded by new people with new ideas and sounds, which is why it sounds so new yet so Mariah. (Wednesday 26 August 2020; 19:22)

Re: Another take on the voice (95,218) (95,220) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa Idk when I look at Tina, Diana, Patti, Aretha, Stevie Wonder, Lionel, Gladys, Al Green, Roberta Flack, and many others I don't see very active careers into their 70s or even into the later parts of their lives. And we all know that the amazing Aretha (RIP) did not sound the same on her final album. These singers will always be amazing, they had longevity without actively putting out new music on a regular basis into their 70s. I see Mariah as legendary as those that came before her, yet she was a part of a very different music industry climate than they were. (Wednesday 26 August 2020; 17:58)

In regards to Denise Williams' comment about Mariah's Instrument, first off I don't think there was any underlying malicious intent for her comment, but more from a singer's perspective, and yes I can agree to an extent on points she raised. Re: Another take on the voice (95,215) (95,218) by Edward from USA Well, comparing the longevity of an athlete's career to that of a singer and the way people perceive them is not like comparing apples and oranges, but rather like comparing apples and rocks. An athlete goes into his field knowing very well they would be retiring in their early thirties due to physical reasons, and it is something expected by people. Nobody would ever question why Michelle Kwan is not trying triple axles combinations professionally at 40 when everybody knows a figure ice skater is usually done by time they're 30. A singer is expected to be singing decently well enough into their 70's. Yes, things could happen to an athlete or a singer that could take them out very early on in their careers, but that's not usually what happens to most of them. Mariah Carey has always talked about longevity, and she's about longevity, she shaded Ariana Grande by wishing longevity to her with her career in a couple of interviews. She wants to be remembered by her music and her talent, she wants to keep on making music, and she wants people to recognize her and her talent, and there's nothing wrong with that. I understand her voice is not the same for whatever reason, but something has also happened to her pen game. Paradoxically, Mariah wrote more mature and cohesive lyrics when she was 20 than now when she's more mature. (Wednesday 26 August 2020; 16:00)

Tommy didn't put the drink in her hand, but he was a catalyst to her bi polar disorder by staking her, taping her phone, putting out bad press about her (Wendy confirmed she was offered a nice amount of money to bash Mariah everyday) reducing promotion, radio ads, and using other artists on the same label against her, and then sabotaging the success of a future project on a new label to stick the last nail on the coffin. Mental state does have a barring on one's voice and how they care for it. (Wednesday 26 August 2020; 06:48)

That said, sure, everyone's voice is different, but I do feel there's more to it than that. As for the athletes, yes, we will marvel and appreciate the heights of their career, but imagine if they were still competing in their current form. Sadly, they would be hounded by the public. This is what is happening to Mariah and I think that's just the way it goes. I for one can appreciate her voice has changed and still enjoy mostly. (Wednesday 26 August 2020; 03:02)

He's been saying that Patricia was an alcoholic for a long time now, but people just thought he was a disgruntled brother when many of the things he said have turned out to be true. I hate family betrayal, but I think Morgan at the end of the day may have ended up saving her life, sadly it took Crustella's threat for her to let the secret out. Tommy didn't make Mariah not take her meds or to mix them with alcohol either, she was diagnosed way after she had parted ways with Tommy, something Morgan also stated. Back when Mariah was working on "Always Be My Baby", she wanted to party out with JD and Da Brat but Tommy wouldn't let her, and those two weren't necessarily drinking soda pop, but Mariah had a lot to lose and Sony too, it's business. Had Tommy not controlled her a bit on that part, we would have seen a voice decline way before Butterfly. Only by smoking cigarettes, at a very young age, when Tommy wasn't in the picture, I'm talking about a 14-17 year old Mariah, she lost two octaves of her voice. She later regained them when she stopped smoking and she promised God she wouldn't ever smoke again, promised she kept, but she just promised God about smoking cigarettes, she never mentioned weed. Musical geniuses like Mariah and Michael tend to be great, but they also have their demons they have to deal with. It's nobody's fault, and nobody's perfect. I think Mariah can still regain some decent control of her voice, but the touring and alcohol indulgence have to stop. When not even in the studio you can deliver, something is very very wrong. I ordered Caution and Merry Christmas Anniversary Edition from there and they arrived within two weeks. I've also ordered The Rarities. I can't wait to watch the concert in HD even though I already own a very professional looking fan made CD/DVD set I found online. Don't block the blessings (95,200) by Brad from USA As Ms. Patti would say, "Honey, don't block the blessings." Nothing is owed to us. We often feel entitled because so much has been provided by Mariah. Thirty years in and we want and expect the highs of yesterday. That's not fair. Are any of us as good and sharp and well as we were thirty years ago in all aspects of our professions? Likely not. And truly we don't know what time, age, habits, disease and medicines have really yielded for this lady we love. But in truth we crave some of that shine again because we sense the way MC's story unfolded over time deprived her some of the peaks and glory we feel she was deserving of. That's understandable and loving and Mariah loves us for recognizing that too. She wants that shine, some of it at least, but recognizes it won't ever be as it was. Bits and pieces here and there. She seeks longevity so her creativity and artistry can be expressed and her legacy burnished. Projects like we have now are bridges to that longevity. Hopefully too there is a continued hunger for broader, more varied and evolving creativity and music. After all, many of us would say Caution is finally the R&B album she always wanted to make. There is reason for hope. But let us also have the maturity to enjoy and cherish what we've had and what we have now for what it is, without the need for everyone else's envious eyes. It's the shock factor of a young kid discovering Mariah's insane vocals. That is the value she has that is everlasting. Her prime vocals will continue to astonish all people who discover her.
