Re: Andrew (95,104) (95,128) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa I mean... many people disagree on here. It's the delivery and the way it's communicated that's disrespectful. I've watched many vocal experts analyze her vocals and they can critique without trashing her. Randy, you often talk about "delusional fans" but delusion disorder is real. And it is a mental illness. As casually as that term is thrown around in here, I'm surprised that you all are upset about what was said. I love a disagreement, debating is always fun. But when it has been lowered to pettiness, I think that's the turnoff for most people. But I have definitely learned to just skip the one or 2 people's posts that I typically don't enjoy. Side note, I am a huge Prince fan and I remember his following being very divided where some people just stayed with 80s Prince and many of the rest of us just learned his new ways of creating music and I think it's actually nice to grow with an artist as they evolve. Same with Joni Mitchell, I love her old voice and how it sounds in her later works. (Saturday 22 August 2020; 19:18)

The Rarities tracks (95,126) by Warr-en-Peace from United States This may have been mentioned, but from a quick glance at the writing credits it sure seems like The Rarities will only feature Sony and Columbia tracks. One reason this makes sense is that now that Mariah is back under Sony, she finally has access to her archived recordings. Unfortunately this would leave out Charmbracelet through Me. I Am Mariah eras. I share the sentiment that I'm hoping The Rarities has unheard songs or songs that leaked in low-quality forms. So many "rare" tracks we've had for 10-15 years in high-quality forms. (Saturday 22 August 2020; 19:15)

I don't mind Do You Think of Me and Slipping Away appearing as they are "real" b sides, however Everything Fades Away isn't exactly a rarity considering it was on every version of Music Box as the closing track except the American editions. Another one of my favourite "rarities" is "Help Me Make it Through the Night" - wouldn't be mad if that made it on there. As far as STD - I quite like it. The chorus is stuck in my head, as is the LA LA LAAAAH bit. Also, it has been picked up by radio in Australia, which hasn't happened since #Beautiful, so that's nice to see. Save The Day (95,118) by 123 from USA The song is so so. The sample is odd and only really on fits at the end. I love the hook but those verses are sung and arranged horribly. Airy crap with moments of brilliance when she actually sings in full voice. She did the same thing on the beautiful remix with Jeezy. The layers vocals give me "Imperfect" vibes. I would have rather she released Slipping Away. It's only not new to fans. I have a feeling the tracks aren't going to be anything special, hence why they were never released. It makes sense to release this song because of the current climate but if this is the strongest song in the bunch of never heard of songs, she is better off releasing the b sides as singles. Hell, I'd take UTS as never got a it's proper chance with the video. Still looking forward to the project while STD hook sticks in my head. (Saturday 22 August 2020; 15:10)

Putting B-sides, international (non-US) bonus tracks and "fan favourites" will essentially clog up what could be the greatest gift of an album. Mariah Carey re-issue (95,111) by Bill from the UK Hi all, the debut album is being re-issued on vinyl on October 2nd. Lucky US fans can buy a translucent green edition exclusive to Walmart. I hope the vinyl is pressed on 180g. This got me thinking. Given The Rarities doesn't have much 1989/1990 content based on what we've seen so far, how cool would it be if accompanying the vinyl release, MC re-issued the album on CD/digitally with all the demos and other material from that time (i.e., All In Your Mind alternative take). If Mariah did that, she would well and truly be one of the most generous and giving of artists, to allow us access to all that stuff and for her to be around to see us all enjoying it. I was disappointed at first but like every Mariah song I still kept wanting to listen to it and now the hook is totally stuck in my head. The KMS sample is a double edged sword. It distracts you from Mariah’s vocals for sure, should have been a bit more in the background but then it is what makes the song memorable - specially in the bridge. The chorus is In The Mix Part II. And Part I was nauseating enough. This one reminds me of the Mixedish cast and their obnoxious dancing all over again. Seriously, who is this song aimed at? Kids doing Tiktoks? The Fugees sample is absolutely bizarre. It doesn't go with the rest of the song. They seem to have tacked it on to give an otherwise infantile, forgettable song a hook. Why not ask Lauryn Hill to rap? I mean, she's no JD, obvs, but I hear she's pretty good at it. Yet, there is a flash of brilliance: Mariah's light and airy head voice floating over the creeping, atmospheric plonky-piano melody and strings in the second verse. That right there is a great concept for a whole song were it to steadily build in intensity throughout the track. But the moment is lost in the cacophony of everything else that is going on. With you and Randy now both in New York City I may be willing to make some serious lifestyle choices. Posting criticism of me could be the MCA chapter in "How To Win Friends & Influence People". But mostly people post against me because they don't like the truth. And on the rare occasion that they can tolerate it, they prefer it dressed up with bells on. Which I am a lot better at than I used to be, thank you very much. Posting that there is something wrong with my mental health in such a serious, mob-mentality way is pretty dark but I am quite confident that there is not so I pay it no mind. Loving someone is not allowing them to run amok recklessly with their talent. Would you handle a crystal meth addict with kid gloves? It's ok that you're eating out of the garbage as long as you're still eating. That's what matters. To say Andrew has mental issues is making a mockery of the mental issue subject. And yes I'm diagnosed bipolar mixed type. But I am an award winning school teacher, a brother, an uncle and a son. I have three degrees, am a published poet and live in NYC. I'm hardly embarrassed. The way I see it, this board is meant for the entire spectrum of sexuality (gay to straight), the entire spectrum of mental health (normal to schizo), the entire spectrum politically (Trump to Sanders). Terna and We Are Lambily irritate the hell out of me with their "Mariah has never done anything wrong; she's never even stepped on an ant." But this is a place for them as they are on that side of the MC fandom spectrum. Andrew and I are on the frustrated side of the MC fandom spectrum. But we're all a family. And none of us are about to leave. The only one who may need to leave is he who does not understand differing opinions. That's you in case I was too subtle. If the heroine has blue curtains in a novel, it doesn't mean she's depressed. If a superhero spills ketchup on his suit while eating a hot dog, it doesn't mean he's about to explode with anger. I love that you hear great moments in the song but to analyze it down to its sections and then relate it to the world's ills today is reaching.
