Re: All My Life (92,107) (92,110) by B from USA
Mariah owns the Glitter soundtrack as a part of her exit from Virgin she was given ownership of the masters. It most likely has something to do with the rights to the movie.

Eric, thanks for the correction. The legends should be respected, they didn't sleep their way to legend status. Putting other artists down to put Mariah on a pedestal is childish and ridiculous.

I promised myself I wouldn't respond to your made up facts. Barbra, just like Mariah, is legendary. Her voice is also special, don't get it twisted. While Mariah writes her own lyrics, Barbra Streisand is also an actress with 5 Oscar nominations and one under her skirt. Before you post nonsense, do some research. Stop making a fool of yourself.

Webmaster: Barbra Streisand won two Academy Awards. One as an actress (for "Funny Girl") and one as a songwriter (for "Evergreen"). She is the only woman in history to win the Academy Award for Best Actress and the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

I agree. Glitter is everything. Great songs and great vocals. I was so happy that the fans got justice for Glitter and I was uber excited when she sang some of the songs on the Caution tour. I got a little emotional because I didn't think I'd ever hear her perform anything from Glitter ever again. It's amazing how she got the original songs to fit perfectly with the remakes and nothing sounded dated. Whomever is stopping her from streaming the album needs to just let the hate go. More people need to hear what they missed out on.

Her voice has gotten stronger since recording, sister has been practicing. And it will only get stronger. Mariah unlike Barbara [sic] is a [sic] artist. This new album will crush vocally. Mariah's voice unlike Barbara's [sic] is special. If the air ain't right, if she don't [sic] sleep enough, if she drinks then it's gonna sound harsh. Mariah during her pregnancy is to me top 3 vocal eras, I liked her voice there even more than the debut era. 2013 was a great era too, the Sydney tour stays underrated.

Re: New album (92,103) (92,105) by Bill from the UK
You're right of course about her vocals of late. I still believe (someday you and me - sorry, sidetracked) that if she were to lay off the alcohol and marijuana (the two most worst things for a singer to indulge in), then it could recover. Her voice stepped up a notch during her pregnancy, where I assume she laid off or certainly reduced her intake. This is why I'm so keen on her to do her jazz style album. She can sing effortlessly in that whispery coo of hers that is so suited for that style, rather than feeling she has to belt and whistle her way through an album, simply because that's what she's always done.

Re: New album (92,094) (92,103) by Musti from UK
It's not morbid. It's realistic. How many full length albums did she release in the last decade? 3, including a second Christmas album. Compilations don't count. Unless she slows down on her extensive touring schedule and makes proper time for new material, we'd be lucky to get another 2-3 albums in this new decade. She seems more interested in doing other things. Also, let's not act like her voice is as durable as Barbra. That topic has been exhausted in every possible angle. Mariah is one-of-a-kind and there will never be anyone like her, but her voice is declining faster than most artists. And that is no shade. Nor is it morbid. It's just realistic. There is no amount of live singing or daily practice that will stop biology from taking over. Try listening to MIAM and Caution back to back and you'll hear what big a difference 4 years made. It's only going to go downhill, like it has gone for quite some time. Anyway, I'm proud of her for all that she has achieved. But in terms of commercial success with the voice that people still remember as Mariah, I'd say 2-3 more albums. I'd love her to prove me wrong on this.

Re: All My Life (92,096) (92,102) by Bill from the UK
Is that so? I thought she only bought the rights to her Sony material. Mariah said on her instagram "I promise you I'm working hard to make it available for download and streaming", also referenced in this article, which implies it's not as simple as her clicking her fingers and it appearing on Spotify. It's the only album she did with Virgin, and the only album of hers not available to stream, which indicates Virgin do indeed have a part to play for it not being available. Maybe they're waiting to recoup Mariah's "exit fee" from sales of the album before it becomes streamable. If so, we are in for a long wait lol.

Re: Mariah Carey (92,100) (92,101) by We are Lambily from USA
Her recent chart success is due to a 90s song, the song is bigger now then what it was when Mariah released it. Mariah has had success in various areas of her career, sis is still winning.

Mariah still sings with her 5 octave range, people who actually go to her shows are singing a different tune. She is still one of the greatest singers alive. Hector did you wake up at the wrong side of the bed?

Mariah barely sings live these days. In the future she can write beautiful songs for other singers.

Actually, it's only Mariah keeping it off the platform. She doesn't have to consult with Virgin. Mariah's in control of the masters and the publishing. She can do whatever she wants with it. I do agree, she should re-surge it somehow. I'd die of laughter if she actually released "If We" as a single and it became a hit, or anything from Glitter really. I'd love a live rendition of "Lead The Way". Start doing those water aerobics, MC. Build up that lung capacity. Hey, that rhymed.

Lol - Andrew, you should do comedy. No, no. Man, you're completely right. Radio isn't ageist. Clearly, everyone in the top 10 is always someone over 50. There's not a year that goes by I don't see the youths bopping along with Madonna's newest music which is always on the top of the charts. Barbra Streisand, Lionel Richie, and Liza Minnelli are all the rage. They just keep jamming out all the new hits. Right up until her death, Aretha Franklin was bringing in all the top 10's.

Funny you should bring up Cher. Her last #1 before "Believe" happened while she was in her mid 20's. Her last top 10 happened when she was 42. She couldn't get into the top 40 after that. "Believe" put her in the Guiness Book of World Records as the oldest female artist to achieve a #1 at 52. She had to do a completely different sound and use auto tune to achieve it. How'd she fair after that #1? She wasn't given the time of day again. She also wrote the lyrics: "It takes time to move on, it takes love to be strong. I've had time to think it through and maybe I'm too good for you." Yet, did she get any credit for it? Of course not. Say, does everyone remember Sia?

"Mariah still has 2 or 3 more albums left in her." Seriously? That's kinda morbid. She's not 90 years old. Mariah will make great music for as long as she's alive and inspired. Paul McCartney is almost 80 and has made more than 10 albums since he turned 50. Streisand has released more than 15 studio albums, compilations, soundtracks, etc. since she turned 50. Mariah will outdo them both.

Radio industry has changed a lot since the 90s, I think you [sic] talking about. Beyoncé is popular with every demographic, yet they hardly play her new music. Mariah's latest releases was limited to ac and urban stations. Let's also talk about the way veterans in the industry gets treated. Let's not talk about the sexism thing, it goes deep and I can write a whole essay about it. Mariah is more successful and more iconic than every male artist (aside from the king of music) throughout the history and hasn't achieved 50% of their acclaim.

Totally agree. It's a shame Loverboy just slightly missed the mark, but Glitter is great. Listening to it makes me nostalgic about 2001 when I was being nostalgic about the 80s. Quality.

Re: New album (92,071) (92,087) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
The radio isn't ageist - stations play the music its demographics want to hear. If a station is popular among 18 to 30 year old it will plays artists popular with that age group. That Mariah is not is down to her output (or lack thereof) and the quality of output (or lack thereof). I do not believe it has anything to do with her age. Cher released a killer song in her later life and it was a global smash.

But it helps you to think Mariah is a victim of everything around her. Like being a victim of sexism, as they claimed. She's the victim of sexism despite being one of the world best selling solo artists (most of whom are women), rich beyond belief, one of the most awarded artists ever, and so on. Total nonsense.

If it helps people to cling to intersectionality when they don't get their own way then fine. It's pathetic but fine. But to do it on behalf of other people is just sad. Especially without any evidence.
