GTFO is still the #1 video on US iTunes since it was released, and already passed 1 million views on YouTube.

I get what you're saying about the bridge people. I've read several comments that basically say I didn't know I missed her until now. These people haven't heard a Mariah Carey song since Obsessed.

Hello, have you seen YouTube lately? The sexy videos are the ones that people are watching. Celine and Adele aren't trending, gracing magazine covers, or getting endorsement deals. Hell, I am not sure that they are even relevant. It's kind of hypocritical for Mimi to cover up when other female stars are doing the opposite and getting worshiped.

GTFO rollout (83,824)

I am really impressed with the rollout of GTFO and it leading up to the official first single With You. Didn't TEOM get the same rollout with It's Like That being a buzz single and We Belong Together as the "first real single?" October 5 is going to be another big day for the album reveal details. Kudos to her team.

On its first day GTFO was only the 284th top streamed video on YouTube. Having an average video severely hurts your prospects these days. Mariah's issue here is her vanity. She will only film videos where she looks perfect and the environment is controlled from every angle. Whilst is may make her look pretty it makes for one boring ass video that nobody wants to watch in a time when views count towards charting positions.

Thanks for posting. That adds a whole new layer to the song by making it a piano ballad. Rather than being some sassy kiss off it is now actually quite introspective and heartbreaking. Thanks again.

Video misses the mark (slightly) (83,819)
by T from USA

Just thinking what a statement of her return it would've been if she was in a power suit (think Madonna in Express Yourself or Beyonce). Something really strikingly different than what we are used to with Mariah. It would also symbolize that she is the boss in this situation and it would be a return to form of the 90s when she was more covered up. That slight difference would've been all she needed to get people talking. If only she could've swallowed her pride for one video and just done things that would benefit the project as a whole. Other than that, she looked amazing the mood and atmosphere were on point. Song is great. She needs to be less Barbie and more bitch.

The production quality of the video. Is better than it has been. Her hair and makeup look lovely now if she would just grasp she does not need to try so hard to be sexy.

GTFO memes (83,817)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
One of the upsides of releasing a song with an explicit title and lyrical content is that it instantly becomes meme-worthy. Once GTFO came out, you just knew that a clip of her mouthing the words to the chorus would be snipped and edited into countless memes. Try searching #GTFO on social media. You'll see quite a lot of Mariah-related ones, especially depending on your search history as detected by algorithms. The memes range from really good to amusing to meh to even pathetic, but it's nice to know people care about the song and video enough to wanna perpetuate it even with something as ephemeral as memes.

GTFO genious promo (83,814)
by CMC from NY,NY
| |
|
|
At first I was so confused and disappointed to immediately hear "buzz single". I went right to thinking after first listen, why are you releasing a mediocre unfitting song as your lead single, just come with the banger as the lead if you have it. This was all too familiar but at second glance this was different than the past whereas Triumphant was released and not successful then deemed a buzz single. I'm not a fan of full on whisper Mariah either, especially for an entire song with no hard beat dropping or the feeling of it being unfinished. It felt cut short coming in at 3:27 and fading out suddenly. The strong vulgarity seemed intense and too aggressive. Then I started to realize this was all absolutely necessary to get people talking and get in their ears. After a day settling in and the shock factor of the attention GTFO was getting from non hardcore fans streaming getting it #1 worldwide I was beginning to see the genius of it all. GTFO and it's in your face yet subtle whisper vulgarity is a Mariah Carey song with [censored] in the chorus, attention grabbing in itself. That alone is buzz worthy. If radio is hesitant to play a 48 year old Pop star who hasn't had a radio hit in almost a decade, Mariah is making a subtle whisper statement of [censored] them, you won't play me anyway, the uncensored version will not make it to radio either. People will hear the buzz about the song (as I hesitate to call song as it's more of a melody of what's to come) and be forced to head over and stream/hopefully download on other platforms. She's not relying on radio and therefore taking them by the balls. Snatching the attention, using the internet as her b*tch for the memes and shock factor of the lyrics to spread the word. I'm coming for you with this music in October. I really do think she doesn't consider this a full song and more of a hypnotic, enchanted mood setting for what is to come and this was all done knowingly and something yet to be done before. This has now set the stage and grabbed radio attention, mainstream, younger even older fans good or bad, and for people to actually pay attention when a hot single drops in a couple weeks and album soon to follow. A proper roll out has been strategically set up for people to listen the [censored] up, you're going to here me. "It's something she had to do at this stage to get people listening if she really does have that banging album. We shall see. I honestly don't think they expected it to have chart success more of a viral internet effect to set up the next single and album Well after all, the gay bars here in NYC are bumping GTFO and that's a good sign, we know what's hot.

2 Day reflection (83,813)
by Ronnie from California
| |
|
|
Well, I love it and I'm obsessed. It seems like she did everything right on this track. I somewhat believe that this song was constructed with the "bridge" people in mind. We all know Mariah is a genius. And other than us, there are three people in the general public: the ones that hate her, the ones who don't know anything about her, and the bridge people. The bridge people are the ones that will listen to us but are not invested enough to care. They are the people who are willing to do the reactions but don't make detailed commentary. On the grander of schemes, the bridge people have more power to sway the others. I think the song is geared toward them. Mariah strategically wrote the lyrics in a manner that draws attention to her layering techniques. I have already heard people say that they haven't heard music layered like this in a long time. I think she stacked it to a complexity that is simple enough to not get lost but intricate enough to make them feel smart, enlightened, or engaged. This is especially true at the end, where the ad libs are subtly repeated twice, again helping the listener pay attention to her classic decision to ad lib at the end. The adlibs, as well as once during the "bulldozed my heart", are the only vocals that are in chest. After repeating the song a million times, it's so satisfying to hear her full voice. It makes me crave the next single. The clean edit someone previously posted is probably similar to the version that would be on the radio if it catches on. Even more than profanity, that clean version also sounds radio friendly. It's shorter and happier without losing its vibe. The Jamaican melody may also be kid/family friendly (idk what the justification for this is, all I know is that the industry loves Jamaican influences and it appeals to pre-teens) which expands her marketability (kind of similar to how Cardi has singles geared to appeal to families and kids). Buzz single is the correct adjective. I have no idea if the song will catch on. At the moment it has not but those "how bout you" lines are mighty addicting, so it might not be able to be contained much longer. I even caught my mom and sister (who are unorthodox haters?) every once in a while singing that exact line.

Hilarious post Edward. I agree with the video. What happened to Mariah's videos? They look beautiful and she looks gorgeous but nothing happens. They are boring. She can still show us dem boobs and touch herself in a more interesting setting, like "Say Something". It needs more storytelling.

She didn't, but now she does (83,805)
by Edward from USA

I like the song from the first listen. It's fresh, different, and current. Kind of short, but a definite step up "Crapfinity", "She Didn't", and "Boobfamous". The fact she's not belting or whistling yet the song holds its own is impressive to me. It actually made revisit the Charmbracelet album, Licia, I love you too. As an album cut it's good. Even though I don't like too much profanity on songs, especially Mariah's, I actually think it's being used as a shock factor, and it seems to be working. I just hope for a version switching "Get The F Out" for "Get the Trash Out" so Stacey could listen to it over and over with her kids in the car. Her awesome kids are the lambs of the future. As for the video, well, it's just another Mariah-only video giving tits, boobs, wig galore and weird looks at the ceiling, as if the man she kicked out is hanging up there, nothing new, nothing special, just Mariah in her midlife crisis touching herself before her goods fall out, it's understandable. I would give her an A- for the song, and an F- for the video. By setting my expectation really low, I actually got a pleasant surprise. Now, I'ma GTFO.

Song's good, dat vid tho... (83,803)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

I know Mariah hasn't put a lot of effort in her videos since maybe Up Out My Face (hey, at least she was a round girl for Triumphant), but if we ever needed any confirmation that GTFO was only released to test the waters, this video is it. Gorgeously shot, flattering lighting, and Mariah looks her best in years, but just another compilation of vanity shots of her in (gasp) lingerie and (surprise, surprise) a glass of wine. At this point I swear she's probably just living out some frustrated dream of being a lingerie model. Her understanding of sexy always seems to be defined by how many articles of clothing she has left on. She looks stunning, but imagine how much classier and better this would have turned out to be had she rocked some haute couture in power bitch mode and forgot the alcohol instead, even in its same narrative-less state. Oh well. Song's still good though. Surprised it held the #2 spot for over 24 hours now. If it stays within the top 10 for at least 3 days, then we're probably gonna see her highest chart debut since 2013.
