Article: Mariah looks chic for date night with boyfriend Bryan (84,462) by Betty from Canada
Who doesn't think With You is about Bryan? The entire song is pretty much their love story we saw on Mariah's World. I'm just really happy for MC since she finally admitted that she is in love though. Wishing them love, happiness and joy always.

Thank you Darren.

I get that Mariah's choices sometimes disappoint her fan base, but it has gotten to the point where if any enjoyment is had with anything Mariah's doing, the delusional word gets thrown around and public shame is the norm if you still call yourself a Mariah supporter. I don't always love her clothing, choices and it means nothing more than I'm saying I wouldn't be comfortable wearing it. I do feel there's a lot of pressure on women in entertainment to "be sexy" and that's what I mean when I say I wish Mariah didn't try so hard to fulfill that. She's already such a beautiful woman without the extra stuff. Instead of calling her names what about having some compassion for her and why she makes some of her choices? Doesn't mean you agree with everything she does, I just don't see how ripping her apart helps anything. You can be objective without treating her like scum. She's a person with flaws. Celebrity can be extremely unhealthy as a lifestyle if you don't have a grounded sense of self, but she's not a monster.

Forever With You or GTFO (84,459) by DK from USA
Mariah is a very smart, hard-working woman and one of the most resilient people I have observed in the public eye. At the moment she seems to be in a good place with a proper team behind her. The subject title of this message is not accidental. It's actually meant to filter the fandom and set the tone for re-establishing her territory in the ADD nation climate, where no one can sustain public attention for more than 1 minute, except for MC at Christmas time. Mariah has already broken records and I'm sure she wouldn't mind doing so in the future but the primary joy comes in doing what she loves, songwriting and singing. She has already offered great material in the past, including the more recent official efforts #Beautiful, Art of Letting Go, You Don't Know What to Do, etc, which did not do well commercially (based on her own standards) but were great pieces.

What I am most surprised with Mariah is that she doesn't seem comfortable with touching social issues through her music. Considering the times we live in, I think this would have been a perfect opportunity to sing about love, unity in a divided would ala We Are The World, Earth Song (idea wise not sonically). A song with simple MC vocals and perhaps a group of children or mix choir (non-churchish) to support her message and a video of her walking normally in the streets holding hands with other normal people in the streets joining her chanting. Perhaps she is not on that mental plane now. I'm sure she is a busy mommy and business woman and in her mind she has plenty of time to push out future material. RocNation seems to be reintroducing her slowly into the mass audiences. The profanity is beyond subtle and playful that I doubt anyone outside of this room is noticing and it still makes her look like Mary Poppins in comparison with today's acts and lyrics.

The two singles to date are kinda cute understated songs if she could also present herself that way even better (part of the reason why she lured in so many fans in the past, especially early career was her simplicity). I can not imagine presenting at work (9 to 5 job) and have people microanalyze my presentation, content, tone, physical appearance, and so on. It would be ludicrous. Let that marinate for a second. I am pleasantly surprised she is still interested in making music.

Much love and success to MC and the lambily.

Re: Single cover / lukewarm reception to With You (84,457) (84,458) by B from USA
I think With You was chosen because it sounds like everything else on the radio at the moment production wise and because of its catchy repeative hook.

Single cover / lukewarm reception to With You (84,457) by Marissa from USA
Shout out to Mariah for finally having the courage to showcase her so called "bad side" on the With You cover. It's been a long time coming and to me it's evidence that she's growing as a person. Regarding With You, I thought it would have been more appropriate as an album cut than a lead single. I don't understand why anyone would've though it was the best pick for a single. With the proper promotion, GTFO could've done much better in that position. I'm concerned though about how heated a lot of lambs are about the song. I feel like she's made a lot of strides that we had been begging for for years to clean up her emotions, mental state, image and professional life and I don't think it's a good look to go this hard on her for one of the first efforts she's made. I don't want her to see all of the angry feedback, get discouraged and regress back into her dysfunctional ways. I'm not saying pretend to love the song if you don't but I can see a person in her position looking at such venomous criticism and feeling like, why did I even try? Just keep that in mind and remember that this is one song, not the whole album.

Basically all of this. Boring song. I don't understand why she thought it was a good single choice. I'd rather just have the full album at this point.

Re: AMA performance of With You (84,451) (84,453) by B from USA
We won't have another NYE debacle. It's obvious Stella sabotaged Mariah's performance hoping the press coverage of the snafu would be a ratings boon to Mariah's World and E. would order a second season. She used even used the debacle to get Billboard to publish a profile on her they'd been sitting on.

Thoughts from new member (84,452) by Primzy from Slovenia
Dear people of MCArchives. I have decided to make myself an account amidst recent events and "anticipation" of MC15, however, I have been following this forum almost daily for more than 6 years now.
I remember the first time I discovered the voice of Mariah Carey - it must have been somewhere in 2011, when she was no longer super popular. I felt amazed by her rich tone, her feminine awesomeness, and strong presence in her performances. I couldn't get enough of her performances from the 90's. It took me awhile, but I got to appreciate her post-2000 self as well - I felt that the musicality was still there. At that time, I haven't yet admitted to myself that I was gay - living in an oppressed environment - Mariah helped me through some rough time. Nothing unusual I suppose, I feel it's similar with many of you. That's why coming to this forum used to feel like home for me.
However, that has changed. Support, optimism and hope are harder and harder to find here. Yes, the voice is not as it used to be. A big part of it is gone. We miss the rich tone, strong resonance, flexibility and soft vibrato. As the voice was the most prominent part of her identity, now she struggles with her self esteem, which shows in the performances, and also in her public image. Yet I always admired her for her perseverance - ability to face obstacles and go on. I believe she's still doing it. She may not be as oblivious to her age as it seems - as she often says - "she's doing the best she can with what she's got".
Sometimes I think her fans are the ones that can't accept the facts. People that follow her from the beginning - do you look as good as in your twenties? Is your skin as pure, are your bodies as fresh? Is your personality the same? Well guess what, Mariah's not the same either. Maybe you're the one that needs to adapt and accept that you're mortal and can't turn back time. Only constant in life is change.
These days, I really hope that Mariah isn't reading this forum. You keep judging everything she does and for her voice, not imagining how it must be for the woman who owns it - I'm sure she's feeling every sign of deterioration ten times more than you do.
I will continue following her and finding joy in some details of pure musical genius, although these days those are more rare to find. I have no expectations, however, hope remains. It's Mariah who taught me that. Love to all.

The track will be playing. But seriously I do hope she has a good performance. Let's not have NYE debacle again. Not now, not during the AMAs. So I wish her the best performance.

Re: Give it a rest (84,425) (84,450) by Andrew from UK
With You is not a bad song. Sure, it sounds like a rehash of previous songs with slightly more current production but it's not bad, per se. In fact, I have to say, I've only listened to it about five times and I have it stuck in my head constantly, words and all. I couldn't sing you a single note of I Don't or Infuhmuzz. So on one hand, it's good. On the other, and herein lies the rub, it is shit first single material and has set the album everyone has waited so patiently for up for failure before it's even dropped. Thus, people are understandably disappointed. I think the last thing anybody expected was new versions of old stuff again and I do think that Mariah is on the cusp of losing interest from a great many people. But it's ok to be disappointed and air grievances - no matter what some Social Justice luvvie from The Guardian thinks. Anyway, given that it's only third way feminists and gay people that still read that fluff they should be careful who they criticize.

Re: Give it a rest (84,425) (84,449) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"Bacardi and getting high on weed in It's Like That." Yup, but this was in 2005 and "It's like that" is a party-song. So it fits. But now it seems a bit desperate, trying to sound cool. But it's not. Mariah herself set the level for her music so high. I mean we're not talking about Britney Spears or J.Lo. Mariah was a musical genius and I think she still is, but the two new songs doesn't show it. Someone said here it would be interesting if Mariah releases something without her "eternal 12" feelings. If I listen to debut I'm still blown away what she has recorded at the very young age. A young girl, with an old soul (I guess Edward wrote it). Wouldn't it be great if a grown-up Mariah releases something with that "old-soul" again?

Music industry (84,448) by Bobby A from United States
Even though a lot of big album releases are happening this fall, there are other major artists struggling with their new albums and singles. Carrie Underwood's Cry Pretty is going down as her lowest charting single ever and her new single Love Wins can't get enough radio airplay to make the Top 30. Culture Club is not getting any airplay for their new album dropping in 3 weeks. Country singer Brett Young's new song Here Tonight from his upcoming sophomore release has flopped after three number one singles from his debut release. So, Mariah is not the only one going to have a hard time on the charts this fall. The problem is that people are just not interested buying anything but rap, hip hop and Taylor Swift right now. I just don't get the latter at all. Guess with a record company like Big Machine Records and a whole Target store endcap/promo stand dedicated to your album guarantees you major success. Mariah's last number one was TMB, her last top 10 was in Obsessed and her last top 20 was #Beautiful. Every single she has released since then has flopped. I hate to say it, but With You would be lucky to make top 40. Radio is just not playing older artists anymore. She is in trouble if RocNation doesn't intervene quick.

Mariah (84,447) by Scott from USA
Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Mine is that With You is a great song. Very heartfelt, sang beautifully. I love it. If people don't like it, fine. But lighten up. There's certainly songs I haven't liked of hers recently, but that's alright, no big deal. Some people on this board are sounding like a bunch of Tommy's, wanting Mariah to do exactly what they think is best for her. If you don't like the song fine, but tone it back on the negativity and relax. Poor Mariah really cops it, she always has right from the start.

With You radio airplay (84,444) by Bobby A from United States
I know it doesn't impact pop radio until October 16th, but it is odd that I am in the DFW market with 5 pop radio stations and no one is playing it before the impact date. What is going on with the relationship between MC and radio programmers? There was a time when a Mariah Carey single was released on a certain date that radio stations immediately started playing it ever hour. Who started this impacting radio on a certain date mess? If they don't play it on the impact date, I am really going to be worried about the success of With You and the album too. She needs radio right now. Social media is not going to sell records. And where is the video that was shot three weeks ago?

First of all, I don't appreciate some of y'all blasting Mariah's clothing choices and videos by slut-shaming her, calling the videos "prostitute-style" videos, or her high heels "prostitute shoes", calling her "trashy" and stuff. It's misogynistic, and incredibly disrespectful. It's her body. And y'all have absolutely no say in another person's choices. I could never understand how people could be so casually sexist in a public messageboard without any form of guilt and remorse. You don't like how she dresses. Fine. You don't like the style of her videos. Fine. But never, ever, ever slut-shame someone, no matter how famous, just no. Some of y'all can take a page from this_is_qhm in how to criticise and express your opinions without being disrespectful.

Second of all, well, this is a bit lighter, but I don't understand why some of you dislike the swearing. Some of the best songs I've ever heard has swear words in it. Personally, I just thought that the swear words in GTFO and With You were kinda out of place, because of the atmosphere of the songs she released, but I have no other problem with it. Do you just dislike swearing in general, or is it just specific for these two songs?

AMA performance (84,442) by T from USA
I have a feeling when Mariah needs an idea she reverts back to something she's done before. I'm thinking she will look back at her last time at the AMA's with the "I Stay In Love" performance. Meaning we may get a similar set up of her walking down the stairs but this time it will be Bryan who will hold her hand (instead of Nick Cannon). This would be completely cheesy. I know Mariah thinks the public wants/expects all this glitz and glamour from her, but I don't think she gets it. People want the unexpected from her. They also want her to remind them of the raw talent she once used to exhibit. To her she might find it "boring" but I believe she should do what she did on the MTV acoustic Love Story segment. Just imagine a blacked out stage and audience. With only one spotlight placed on Mimi. She's sitting there on an artist's stool with only a microphone in her hand singing her heart out. It's really the only way to differentiate herself from the Jlo's and Taylors who will be performing.

Album drop (84,440) by T from USA
Maybe Beyonce was on to something by releasing the whole album all at once on her own through the Internet? I mean, she took all the power away from radio and the labels to make the decision if she's play worthy or not. If the album is indeed about all the portraits of her life then she could've spent the summer filming low budget "photography" music videos or snapshots and then she could've surprised everyone with an album drop and let the public decide which songs they want to be played on radio. I'm sure in the whole album there is one sure fire hit but this way we only get what the label/Mariah let us hear first.

Re: JLo at AMAs: shoes (84,423) (84,436) by Lexingz from Estonia
I couldn't agree more about the shoes. It is hard to watch someone you love teetering on shoes that are impossible to walk in. It makes her whole stage presence way more awkward than it needs to be. Please ditch the platforms Mariah, you might think they make you look taller and slimmer but all I see is someone always afraid of falling over. And I don't want you to fall over. Please bring back the amazing, classy, flattering shoes. (For example something like in the Honey or Sweetheart video or 1999 Billboard music awards.)
