Article: Mariah Carey makes "a no no" for real in her new single (85,553) by Matthew from USA I consider myself more than just a casual lamb and even I didn't get the Mean Girl's reference. Please don't revoke my membership. In any case, I think he's right. Outside of hardcore fans, that word is going to stick out unpleasantly for older or more educated listeners. And the whole nostalgia of the track seems to indicate that's who this is for. If this is intended as a single, she can probably salvage it by replacing the second verse with a rapper. Then again, the younger crowd might not know about that word, so maybe it won't matter. (Friday 2 November 2018; 16:52)

On another note, the way the Gilligan Island reference is sung recalls the verses on Touch My Body. I therefore derive the equation: Shake It Off + No Scrubs + 1999 urban pop + X-Girlfriend + every other song that has sampled Crush On You + Heartbreaker + Touch My Body = A No No This therefore is a very Rainbow track topped off with a bit of TEOM and E=MC2 gloss. Mimi is clearly just channeling her inner mean girl not only in this song, but this entire era. All the delicious, epic shade on A No No? GTFO? Vulgariah in full force? Caution could be the album that sets up a banger of a summer album. I can't believe she only wrote 10 songs and none with JD. Before A No No even got leaked, Kandi Burruss who co-wrote Mariah's X-Girlfriend, posted a throwback picture on instragram with Mimi and Mama Joyce, her mom.
