Re: Dubbing, why? (81,089) (81,112) by Andrew from UK
I watched the undubbed Hero ft. LP and I agree. There's actually so little difference you have to question if it was worth dubbing it. That performance of Hero is somewhat moving - even Mariah's part has some certain other quality to it I can't quite put my finger on.

Talking of moving on from tired topics and hypocrisy, how many times are you going to say you think Mariah should work with The Weeknd, Miguel, Bruno Mars, Happy Perez, the Smeezingtons, et al.? Why not develop the topic and debate whether these people would actually work with her.

That snippet is so good. Thanks for sharing. I loved "Sweetheart" since the release. It's still such a cool, relaxed song. I want a version like this snippet. Mariah singing while giving autographs, a true diva and one of a kind (I mean it positive). Lucky audience.

It def should have been. She needed more live performances of the song without any lipping. Had she not had the accident she could have continued to push the song. The whole album had hits. Hoping for more great songs that get a ton of promo. Sony put a bunch of promo behind Crapfinity. Hopefully they will put that much and more on a solid song.

Re: "Sweetheart" (81,090) (81,108) by 123 from USA
I love the vocal on it. No whispers. She sang it full voice and stayed her sweet spot, that middle register. It's a nice uptempo that she should add to her set list as most of her catalog is ballad heavy. I know a lot of "old Mariah" fans that reference that song as a fav and say she needs another song like that where it's uptempo and she sings it straight.

Re: Our minds work differently (81,100) (81,107) by 123 from USA
Thanks RibbonB, you know you're one of my favs here. I'm so here for Sade btw and I need that Toni album. I hope she has a sexy sultry jam like Clockwork. It should have been a single but she backed out since it leaked. She should have released it anyway as only people on blogs heard it and her general audience still doesn't know of its existence. I need a Mariah song for the summer. Just one. A hot uptempo.

Re: "#Beautiful" (81,091) (81,106) by B from USA
I agree. If MIAMTEC had been released when the single was at its peak it would have been her 19th #1. It's one of Mariah's strongest singles in years. I hope she works with Miguel and Happy Perez on her next studio album. Obssessed would have also topped the Hot 100 if MOAIA had been released when it was at it's peak as well. Both singles are certified platinum. Those delays caused both albums to underperform. Hopefully, Mariah has everything in order when she release her next album.

No you avoided it all together bringing up Mariah when the topic is you. Nice try but I saw through that. And even Stevie Wonder can see that you're gay, it's the only thing that pushes your buttons. Did you think I would waste my time making gay jokes to push your buttons? [Webmaster: This is the last e-mail about fans fighting with each other. Mariah Carey desperate? Please. Can we move on from these boring and tired dubbing and lip-synching conversations. Mariah looks amazing and she's in the studio. Let's talk about who we think Mariah should work with on her new album and why? I think she should write a song with The Weeknd. I think they'd create a moody R&B masterpiece in the vein of The Roof. I also think she should enlist Bruno and his songwriting and production team The Smeezingtons. I also want to hear what she wrote with Diane Warren awhile back.

Janelle Monae released two new tracks and videos today and I was not ready. She has bars. Now that is some good stuff. I can't wait for her entire "Dirty Computer" project.

Ridiculous country? Funny how you said that while Mariah debuted with a music company all owned by Sony. Without this ridiculous country you won't be even speaking here. But if a debate is too intimidating I have something much safer for you it's called karaoke. So sing along. "In another land they still believe color grants (you sing this word)."

Thank you for the simple "dummy's guide to dubbing" explanation. I actually got it. Lol. I think you're the first person to explain it without going into a full Mariah rambling paragraph.

The thing is, even the undubbed Tattoo Club performances weren't even that bad. They were a lot better than most decent singers could accomplish. The only major mess up were the backing singers screwing up Someday and the failed upper register ad lib on Don't Play That Song. The undubbed Unplugged also has nothing wrong with it in my opinion. Mariah did say that when she was at Sony they always said everything had to be perfect and she was in the studio all the time re-recording. I assumed the comment was around her albums but must have extended to the live performances as well. I agree with Andrew that The Art Of Letting Go was a great opportunity to put all that behind her and do the best with the talent God gave her, without resorting to all the unnecessary bells and (forgive the pun) whistles.

Sheila hasn't posted in a while and she certainly has stopped the gay comments or been blocked from posting them, but the racist comments of others seem to make it through. All of the petty provocation needs to stop. But, dumb shit breeds dumb shit in response. The cycle goes on and on.

Re: Dubbing, why? (81,089) (81,096) by Andrew from UK
Can't listen to that. If you tell me the Pavarotti performance was dubbed I could not cope with it. As I said, this has always been a downward spiral. But is it broaching absolute truth that almost every performance is a lie? Surely not. Home for the Holidays better be real or I will be seriously pissed off. But, as my friend pointed out to me today, if it was a toss up between being honest and upfront and quite wealthy or being deceitful and mega wealthy, most of us would opt for the latter.

Re: Mariah Carey: Just Be Good To Me (from Japan) (81,082) (81,092) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"Mariah was so desperate to sound perfect that she created the illusion she was flawless." She simply did sound "perfect". Of course everyone has another taste of what that perfect thing is. For me it's the emotion, the softness of her voice and her "Mariah vocals" that makes MC so special to me. I don't think she was desperate at all. There are a lot of non-dubbed live versions online. The first time I saw her live, I was shocked that she sounded way better than on the cd. But if I listen to the so-praised Rihanna or Taylor Swift, that's what I call "smoke and mirrors". Good entertainers but not great at singing at all. There are non-famous musicians who are so much better than these popstars on the charts.

If there's one song that should have been Mariah's 19th number one (so far), this is it.

"Sweetheart" (81,090) by Billy from Greece
A teeny-tiny snippet of Mariah singing "Sweetheart" live during the filming of "I Still Believe". This jam has some serious funk in this arrangement. Love it.

Dubbing, why? (81,089) by Edward from USA
Sometimes I don't even know why she would get her performances dubbed since they were great to begin with. In this with Pavarotti she was better undubbed, it doesn't make sense.

Re: Mariah Carey: Just Be Good To Me (from Japan) (81,080) (81,088) by Edward from USA
Bill, I have to say in Mariah's defense that she did more than one take for the MTV Unplugged, they of course copied, pasted and filtered the audio to sound perfect which would considered to be dubbing as well. One thing that really left me flabbergasted was when I heard her raw recording at the Tattoo Club, I posted the whole mini concert once here. They sound nothing like what we get on the tape, of course she must've done different takes. Had Mariah had her boom by 1980, we wouldn't have ever found out, but technology got to her and what she could keep tightly controlled actually has come back to haunt her.

Re: Our minds work differently (81,053) (81,087) by Edward from USA
RJJ12, so if Andrew makes a racist comment, you're going to punish him by blasting the gays, because being gay is an offense and since he's gay or their advocate he would feel offended? I'm sorry but I don't understand that logic. So that means that when Sheila makes derogatory gay comments, the gays should make nasty racist remarks to get back at her because being racist is good? What's next, me making derogatory comments towards B because he just moved to Indiana?

Bullying? Tasted your own medicine finally? See who can't take a joke now. And bored of me? Sounds like things said by someone losing an argument. To quote your own words you once said to me: "Lighten up." "Go back to bed, it's safer there."
