Mimi yes to all you said. So right. What happened to Anthony? Did they fire him, did he quit? He could make Mariah dance.

Completley agree with Bliss. I just watched the performance and my first thought was, it seems that she isn't able to move. Not natural at all. It looks more like that than laziness. Who knows what's really going on? After her shoulder injury she seemed to have lost her confidence and won't move live on stage anymore. I do think it's a combination of private problems (the divorce, maybe medication and so on) and real health issues. The show concept with the helicopter and jet ski was nice. But she clearly isn't herself since a while. And nobody seems to help her or even try. A second breakdown could be worse than the first. She has given so much with her music, she deserves to be happy and loved. I think she's heartbroken plus the health issues. But what can we fans do? I'm hoping the best for her, I MC.

Looks like you all forget Mariah was 25 years old when the MSG, and now she is 47, and with a few more pounds and years, you all like criticize her a lot. Do you know she is human right? She can't stay like in the 90s forever people.

I love Mariah Carey with all my heart and she's my forever idol, but I will be the first to admit her performances are very bleack. You can tell she doesn't even want to be there. Personally, I think she needs to cut back on her drinking because it's almost like she's just standing there drunk. She's not 24 anymore and her outfits need to change. I love her music and I listen to her every day. I'm a forever lamb, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to sit here and applaud all the BS she's doing lately.

What the hell is going on with Mariah? (78,458) by John from USA
I'm actually embarrassed to be a fan of hers right now. I have been a fan of her for twenty years. I had always knew the name "Mariah Carey" starting around the Daydream era, but became hooked during the Butterfly era. I've seen her live on all her tours from Rainbow and on. Played the crap out of "I Don't", still love that song. Everytime Mariah used to have a new single out (especially a lead single), it would be epic. She'd have great videos, promote the hell out of it, perform it everywhere, actually sing live, give proper interviews, come across as hard-working/likeable/talk about her new album. I feel like that woman is completely gone. I have no idea who this woman is now. I completely understand we all have blunders, but she has not been able to pull it together since the E=MC2 era. I feel like that era was our last chance for a proper and successful era, but after TMB, we had the wrong single choices, she fell off the face of the Earth and abandoned that album (her marriage to Nick really isn't an excuse, because that was a great album with many potential hits) and her career has never recovered. And it's at the point now where I don't even think Mariah is capable of having a Cher-like comeback with just one solid hit single (even if the album it's on doesn't sell well itself). I feel like the general public just resents her, and I'm almost starting to resent her because I feel like it's all self-imposed and I know the quality of an artist/performer she once was. If she is truly having physical or mental health problems, then I definitely do sympathize, but she needs to stop showing up to things, take some time out of the spotlight, and address them head on. I am terrified that even if she does do this, we're already at the point of no return. Radio won't touch her and the general public and even other celebs have lost virtually all respect for her. She could do no wrong in the 90s, and she had a chance in the 00's to reclaim a certain level of that success (she did for a while with TEOM and TMB), but E=MC2 started the downfall of one of the greatest artists of all time. But as she said during that speech about Whitney, "We'll always have the music."

Bryan is the absolute worst creative director because he doesn't push Mariah enough. Anthony used to push her. Bryan just lets her be stiff and make a fool of herself while he shows off his same old tired moves and I'm so sick of their little dip and pull move. They overused it so much including in that cringeworthy MW gazebo "confession" moment.

Re: Is Queen Mariah ready to retire? (78,452) (78,456) by Licia from USA
If that's the case then she should just go ahead and retire and stop doing these big gigs. Although I'm not ready for her to retire from music, I'd understand if she decided to stop performing. We all know that this wouldn't last forever. Like another poster pointed out, I don't want her to continue to embarrass herself if she's no longer feeling it.

Re: VH1 (78,455) by bliss! from Brazil
Is Mariah having coordination problems? In the beginning of the performance, as she gets onto the stage and unzips her bodysuit she looks so uncomfortable and visibly slow. It gives the impression that she's medicated or doesn't know where she is. It's the first time I'm actually worried about her health.
On a note, for people who said that Mariah is not known to move a lot on stage, what can we say about this unique performance of SOS Band - Just be good to me?
Of course I'm not expecting her to do this ever again, but maybe it's time to stop worrying about ensembles, choreographies, Tanaka and looking cute, and just spend some time at home until she's able to deliver an average performance where we don't feel so bad or worried about her. I'm also scared about a second breakdown and I do think after her divorce, she was never able to get it back together again

Re: Is Queen Mariah ready to retire? (78,452) (78,454) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I do not think Mariah is ready to retire. She lives for the fame and it's not necessarily bad but it is true. If she wasn't into it she wouldn't keep inviting paparazzi and staging stunts and doing made up shows and all that. She knows the moment she steps down she'll no longer have it after a point because people will move on.

After seeing all the articles and meltdowns on twitter I was expecting the worst but it wasn't as bad. I've seen worse from her in recent years. This atleast looked high quality/budget with the block party theme, the elaborate props and her energetic collaborators. The gimmicks really worked to minimize Mariah's awkwardness, usually it doesn't. But yes I do hope she gets her stage presence back. She won't always be surrounded by so many people on stage to keep it popping.

Is Queen Mariah ready to retire? (78,452) by Sheila from United States
Why do I think Mariah is tired and ready to retire? Maybe just ready to retire and raise her kids and do spot dates here and there. Has Mariah given up? I do thank VH1 and Mona Scott for showing her love on the Hip Hop Honors, she deserves all this love. Maybe she has grown up with us and like us she's ready to move on from the spotlight.

Hip hop honors (78,451) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
The production seemed very rushed this year like VH1, Mona Scott Young and the other involved through everything together. I feel it should have been at least a two hour board cast and the budget was cheap other than Missy and MC with her props and special guests. Honestly last years production was put on better in my opinion.

Step back perhaps? (78,449) by 90sMariah from SG
If Mariah continues to be in this funk - this level of disrespect for her audience and legacy - she needs to step back and stop accepting high profile and televised gigs until she's snapped out of it and realised how bad she's coming off. I am embarrassed for her whenever she pulls this level of unprofessionalism - always appearing "so over it" and/or drunk and/or medicated on cam. I'm not saying she should retire completely from public performances, because a lot of the fans are still into her just standing there. Didn't she say repeatedly back when she had just divorced Tommy that she hated the idea of people expecting her to just wear a gown, stand there and just sing ballads? Well - she's doing exactly that. Except for the ballads part, because technically she does the same for her uptempo songs. So, please spare yourself anymore embarrassment and step back and quit drinking heavily, Mariah.

VH1 (78,447) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Finally watched it, wasn't that bad. The intro montage where everyone talked about her influence and how she incorporated hip hop to mainstream music got me emotional, that's the genius Mariah is. I loved the elaborate sets, the gold car, helicopter, jet ski and all. Loved the new "Honey" vocals and lived for the So So Def Remix getting some love finally. Mariah looked gorgeous and I loved her hair, but that outfit wasn't working for me. Now to the bad parts, Mariah really needs to move. She looks like she can't take a step without assistance and I would have loved for some energy, even if she didn't dance. She was standing there stiff. A little version of the iconic "Honey" dance would have been great. The stage presence was kept up my her collaborators as in Da Brat, Ma$e and the likes. I wish she kinda grooved with them a little more. Also why only Honey? I was hoping there would be a medley of some of her biggest hip hop collaborations.

Re: Why was Mariah on stage? (78,439) (78,446) by May from Denmark
Mariah seemed to have more energy at Beyonce's age, afterall, that was the time she gave us the Emancipation. Bey right now is taking care of her cubs, which is sweet, I believe she will be able to shake the money maker when she turns 47 like Mariah. I think we should compare with Jello as they have the same age, the woman has a lot of energy and she also has twinsies. Mariah needs to lay the alcohol and drink whatever Jello is drinking.

Re: Article: Mariah is stiff as a board in Hip Hop Honors performance (78,432) (78,445) by May from Denmark
Yes to all that J, you and Bill wrote perfectly what I wanted to say in my broken English. She has no stage presence anymore, it's all gimmicks. She looked gorgeous, but standing there looking pretty is not enough. Just watched the HD version, I was hoping to hear that belted and those runs in the climax but all I heard was ooh and aah and an awkward silence where we know she says Honey, instead it came the pre record. I thought she was singing live just fine until she sat in the helicopter and it was all too obvious. I'm still here waiting for new music but we will get another worldwide tour. I am actually thinking in going if it happens because I feel that there won't be much Mariah left for future performances, and I'm talking about the singer, she seems everytime less willing to sing or perform at all. What's happening to our Mariah? I don't want to be negative but she gives me no positive feedbacks with that lazy attitude, if there was a valid reason I would step back. Some mentioned she was drunk, I don't know, the sad thing is that I could totally believe she was. Mariah come back darling, slap yourself on the face, quit the alcohol, care for yourself and come back. For the person who said noone said anything about the LR tour, that's not true. A fair amount of lambs said she was stiff. It's a problem that has been building since years.

It's not about the dancing, nobody expects her to move like Janet Jackson. Stop pretending that's what people want from her. Do you really think she looks like she's enjoying herself on stage while pretending to sing the vocal climaxes of her songs? No. Stop it. We just want her to move. Lift her legs and walk on her own and not look like she's so over everything. She always look like a furniture being moved around the stage by her dancers. Why even have dancers if you're not going to put an effort to move a bit. Remember MSG? She didn't dance in it, but she looked like she was enjoying herself - moving around the stage and waving her arms and shoulders. She was fun. Is it because she's wearing 10" heels? Then don't wear them. She looks like a medicated sofa being propped around a huge apartment.

Re: VH1 performance was disrepectful (78,436) (78,443) by jaker20 from US
I thought about possible health issues. But I always thought she's just really gotten lazy. She just doesn't want to put much effort. Around after that 18th no.1, she just didn't care much anymore. She still put some now and then, but in general, she's just chilling. I remember around the release of E=MC2, she said albums don't sell anymore, the industry has changed, said she'll never have another Music Box success because that time's passed. I thought to myself, this girl's ready to retire soon. Then she got married. In essence, she retired when she married Nick and had kids. The Emancipation tour was her last hurrah. I don't remember a performance since where she really put her all. Talent still comes out on some live performances every now and then, but they're few and far between. For the most part she just wing it. She can put a performance if she wants but that passion isn't there anymore. She's no longer that motivated, but didn't want to completely disappear from the limelight. I've been there from day one when Vision of Love climb the charts so it's tough to admit. Now I always use Madonna as point of comparison. I hated Madonna in the 90s and 2000s, but admire her perseverance well past her prime, 13 years Mariah's senior. Success or no success, watching Madonna make me keep going in life. Someone asked below why fans bitching just not leave if they don't like MC anymore. Because I want MC to keep going. Right now she's cheating her career and herself. These performances are recorded, they will never go away. Go to YouTube, a great majority are her awful ones. The great ones are hard to find. That's become her legacy, the awful ones. Hope she realize it's not about success, no.1s or money all the time, it's doing what you are able to do and do it well. To entertain, to be creative. Otherwise, it is indeed time to retire. Know when to stop.

Even if she didn't move around much as long as she was serving some energy and great live vocals, the performance would have been great. Look at this performance from just a year ago. She interacts with the audience and the live portion of the vocals are really good. She looked great. This is what the performance should have been like.

Bad dancing vs. not caring (78,441) by jaker20 from US
Emancipation era was full of awful dancing, but people loved that era because she put effort on them. Mariah was never a dancer. She's always been awkward when she dances. But let's not be foolish here, there is a world of a difference between not knowing how to dance vs. stripping then doing nothing on stage. MC always needed choreography because she's not a natural dancer, especially on her upbeat 90s songs. Even ballads where she just walks on stage requires choreo and preparation. It's Like That VH1 performance she did during Emancipation, she just walked around the stage while flowing her dress, but it's cute and cool because you can tell it was choreographed. The last 8 or so years have been repulsive to be perfectly honest. No preparation, just rubbing her hair and legs and lipping. I can bookend the past ten years of epic fails. (1) American Idol Bye Bye performance which she lipped. It's a big top 5 night, AI was ratings blockbuster at the time. She coached the contestants. Yet she lipped. (2) American Idol again, all season she's judging, ratings are decent. Yet when it's finally time to sing, she just stood on a stage float and semi-lipped. (3) VH1 this week, she's being honored, and lipped and did not seem to have anything prepared. In between these fails, it's controversies, divorce, flop singles, lip-gates. Cher was older than her when she hit no.1, and she doesn't dance either. Madonna was older than her when she hit top 3 with 4-Minutes and she's an awful singer. MC is irrelevant in pop music the past 5 years or so. At this point, I'm not worried about her career. I'm worried about her sanity period.

I also hate to say this but I was excited for Butterfly turning 20, but when I watched her on VH1. I lost complete interest. If this performance was on any other music award show, the world would of treated this like they did on NYE. I really want the best for Mariah but the past two years have been... I can't even think of something decent to say. Mariah Just get off this rollercoaster ride lol.
