Reality star behavior. Putting the enemy of your enemy on the remix. Mariah has become a sad fame whore.

Celine, Aretha, and all that stuff... (73,884) by Stacey from USA
Celine didn't upstage anyone. Geez. Anytime she is asked about other artists, she always has nice things to say. She was so complimentary and gracious when asked about Ariana and John Legend taking on Beauty and the Beast. This idea that Celine was rude to Aretha Franklin is just plain ridiculous. Celine doesn't strike me as a person who shades others compared to Ms. "I don't know her". On Chain of Fools, MC was going at it with Aretha too. They were both trying to out do each other, most notably at the end. Was MC being disrespectful? No. Why even ask the question? It was a Divas show. People want to hear them ladies sing. Period. We need to stop beating this poor dead horse.

Article about Mariah and politic statements (73,883) by TJ from Norway
Wasn't Mariah very much politic the first time Obama got elected as president? What's the reason she kept silent last year? I think the "vote or die" T- shirt told a lot 8 years ago.

Mariah and Remy Ma Remix, and that Busta collab (73,882) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
While y'all are having melt downs over what happened in late 90s, Mariah has released a remix with Remy Ma for "I Don't". I honestly don't get why after so long, anyways here is the link to it. Nothing new and it's just another "copy and paste" moment. I honestly wonder what happened to the "queen of remixes" Mariah. She used to come up with fire remixes and now we only get cut and paste collaborations. They probably wanted to cash in on the Nicki feud, but it was pointless. More news, Mariah's track with Busta will be out next week. Those who heard it say it's a "whisper fest", which doesn't bother me, but let's see.

I Don't (feat. Remy Ma & YG) (Remix) (73,881) by Malcolm from Asia
Laziest thing Mariah ever released. She have a reputation when it comes to this remixes, why the hell she did this? This is nonsense and embarrassing, I'm out.

Re: Mariah doesn't sing unless cued (73,877) (73,880) by Mara from United States
I have to agree with this as well. I remember her singing in that mic starting right at Luther like she was watching his cues. I also remember her singing that way with Whitney when they performed WYB live. She always seemed to be a bit reserved and respectful. Mariah never came off as a showoff and was classy with her performances with other legends. With Luther and that live performance, I think he seemed thrilled that she was "killing it" on stage with him. That glorious Luther smile said it all when she went there. Agree with RibbonB too, where is our Luther of this generation?

Re: Article: Mariah is turning "All I Want" into an animated movie (73,846) (73,879) by RibbonB from USA
Mariah stays on the pulse of new music. She listens. I think she was just acting like she didn't know what "surfboardt" meant on the Breakfast Club Interview. She was still in her "married with twins, yet Mary Poppins phase" then. She merely did not want to discuss whether or not she engaged in that kind of physicality. Lol. She was also asked about Lemonade on WWHL, when it came, but she just played coy, not because she had not heard it, but because she didn't really want to discuss it. She said if Jay and Bey haven't said anything to her, then she was not going to speculate. But I do agree other things have to go through Stella the Bat's blood sucking filter.

Re: Mariah doesn't sing unless cued (73,876) (73,878) by Musti from UK
I couldn't agree more. M always pays her respects to those that have come before her, either by praising them or by giving reserved performances to let the legends shine. Endless Love at the Royal Albert Hall is probably one performance where M equalled/surpassed the legend on stage. But I don't think Luther cared. If anything, he could hardly contain his excitement when he was announcing M's name to join him on stage. That performance was all about M in my opinion.

Re: Mariah doesn't sing unless cued (73,876) (73,877) by Edouard from France
Totally agree. I believe Mariah's so respectful of those she was inspired by. She's never outsinging them, because I think she has ethics. She's also scared and she only sings with people who she knows will be supportive and sing with her. She sings with them, never against them. She treats these performances as an honour (because she's a fan first and foremost) and never trats them as a platform for her own promo/ego. I love Mariah.

Mariah doesn't sing unless cued (73,876) by Nikki from usa
I used to talk about that with other fans way back in the day. Mariah is so respectful of those that came before her. Even when she came out she was careful to emphasize she didn't sound "anything like Aretha, but this is my tribute to her". It doesn't matter the legend. Whenever she's on stage for any performance with Patti, Donna, Aretha, etc. She's always watching them for a cue or flat out waiting for them to tell her to sing. I'm not sure how I'm the only one on the board who noticed that. I also disagree Edward - she didn't outsing Luther, she sang just like she did it in the studio. She didn't take her eyes off him either until she was well into verse, didn't you notice her watching him like a hawk? Take a look at her live with Luther than live with Trey Lorenz. It's way different.

You'd be wasting your money. No one can escape reality, no matter the amount of money they have or people around them to keep the "good times" rolling. That's just reality. Imperfection, criticism, sadness, death, disaster, disappointment, failure, heartbreak, etc. will always touch the life of every human being to varying extents. That just leaves the options to either face it head on or put on a mask and pretend it doesn't affect you but with the second option, it'll always be just that, a pretense.

Mariah held her own with Luther (73,874) by Ty from USA
That live performance in the U.K. If you listen note for note Mariah soared. Yes Luther was good but it was Mariah's night vocally.

Re: Hypocrisy, here I come (73,853) (73,871) by darrian liu from taiwan
Hmm, I agree that the Divas Live ad lib moment was a lost opportunity, but the Got to Be Real duet was really out of Mariah's control. Patti is a dramatic soprano, which is known for their gargantuan size especially in their head voice and belts. There are even instances where she demonstrated that her head voice and belts still clearly audible without mic on live performances, even with the audience cheering. Mariah is a light lyric coloratura soprano, known for a girly bright tone, with a small volume but tons of agility and flexibility. Moreover, when they harmonized, Patti was using a very loud G#5 belt, while Mariah was using her whistle. Obviously Patti would drown out her voice even more.

Re: Celine doesn't deserve an apology (73,864) (73,870) by Andrew from UK
Adam, thou are right, and it was certainly not the bloody Aretha Franklin Show. There is no unwritten rule that if Aretha Franklin sings everyone else must pretend that they can't. Demented people who think that Celine should "stay in her lane" are lambs clutching at straws, once again, to excuse a poor performance my Mariah - in this instance, on "Natural Woman". Mariah probably would've if she could've but she couldn't so she didn't (however, in saying that, I thought she whooped Aretha on "Chain of Fools"). Further, Celine was probably top billing for that show given it was the year of Titanic ("Oycberg, royt ahead") and with "Falling Into You" not long since winning Celine a new inch of neck at the Grammys. If anyone shaded Aretha, surely it was the production company or whomsoever cut other performed songs from the DVD/CD. "Top billing", indeed. If only the show were Divas Live 96: Mariah would've annihilated everyone there. Mariah was not the best, and it's certainly not "passive aggressive" to explicitly say so. Who's up for people using terms like that to understand to what they actually refer and to what they should be applied? "Passive aggressive"? Hmm, let me see if I can help. Ooh, I know. One example springs to mind - how about inferring someone who sang better than you was being disrespectful to somebody else? Haha. Oh, you have to have a little fun, now and again.

In Mariah's defense (73,868) by Giovanni from USA
Regarding Celine and Patti. Mariah tried her best at "Divas live". Clearly she was not in the best shape vocally but she still had the best voice on that stage and delivered two great performances. Celine had her moment with Aretha but Mariah's "Make it happen" was the best performance of the night in my opinion. Mariah is not the type of singer to go head to head with other singers. She has so much respect for her idols that's just who she is. Now with Patti, it doesn't matter who you are you can't out sing her. Patti is a dramatic soprano. She has the most loudest and most powerful voice type. It didn't matter if it was Chaka, Whitney, Jennifer Holiday or Celine Dion. Patti will destroy anyone. Mariah's performance with Patti was probably the most fun she's had with any singer.

I don't (73,867) by Giovanni from USA
Has grown on me, but the video is terrible. And why she continues collaborating with corny worthless no name rappers is beyond me. Mariah's over the top sexiness is such a turn off. I was all here for "Beautiful", but "I don't" is disgusting. Hands down her worst video ever. Mariah is so much better than that.

Re: Celine doesn't deserve an apology (73,842) (73,864) by ADAM from USA
I completely disagree with you. I think Divas Live is an opportunity to showcase several musicians and have a good time. Doing riffs and runs and exchanging parts while looking glam is all par for the course. I think Mariah's shady comment about Celine competing with Aretha was clearly her own insecurities manifested outwardly. I still hold the same opinion I had back then that Mariah's voice sounded fried and really bad especially compared to any of the other females there. Had her voice been like it was in 93 she would have been the one doing all the magic Celine's voice was doing. I think Mariah was jealous that her instrument is damaged and gives to right to shade Celine or anyone else. Celine is such a geneuine nice person and another great singer. Mariah needs to have several seats.

RibbonT, how dare you? Lol. Celine didn't outsing Aretha, but she sounded great. She was there to sing, and so she did and well. If you can tell me with a straight face that Mariah didn't outsing Luther, then I believe you. I love that duet, I've watched it a million times, and it is still one of my favorite duets from her, but if that isn't outsinging, I don't know what it is. I don't think she went there with the intention to be an ass, but she outsung him out of the theater. Ok, I'm giving you your B back. RibbonB. Love your posts always.
