All formats are great with their own qualities and merits that translate to personal preferences. CDs are my top preference because they are digital on a physical medium that delivers a pure sound on a tangible object that I can keep indefinitely. With streaming I'm limited by hardware and services, and I don't have a physical copy that I can hold and adore like a CD with liner notes and photos. Vinyls offers warmth and coziness of a soundscape, but they are cumbersome and expensive.

Playing vinyl on a cheap turntable with a cheap stylus actually damages the vinyl over time, so playing it on a cheap player from the 1950s, or any cheap player for that matter, is not a good idea. It is a medium that only deteriorates with age unless it is treated with utmost care, and that requires a decent turntable and stylus.

While many find the analogue audio experience rich and warm, a compact disc played through a decent hifi set up (with a Digital to Audio (DAC) converter) will sound absolutely fantastic, and a Super Audio CD played on a player designed for that medium is unbeatable. Couple that with a decent pair of speakers and you'll never look back. CDs are far from a dead medium, as all manufacturers continue to make players to this day. CDs provide the best quality audio available without any depreciation in quality and without clicks, pops and scratches that will invade an uncared for vinyl record over time.

As for streaming, unless it is a CD-quality streamer (Tidal, Qobuz) I wouldn't bother, as so much of the music is compressed and sacrificed on streamers like Spotify (the McDonalds of music streamers). Plus as you point out, with the exception of Qobuz, you cannot own and keep the digital music files and they run the risk of being removed or, possibly worse, amped up and compressed to compete with the "loudness wars".

TLDR: CDs are good.

Do we know for sure yet that there are no unreleased tracks? Around 20 tracks not revealed yet but yes they'll all be remixes - I'm hoping for one unreleased song to sneak in though it doesn't look like there are any. She mentioned somewhere that When I Feel It will be included but yes that's been around forever.

I really don't agree with people who call TEOM her "magnum opus". The magnum opus is "Butterfly", people. Get with the program. I find TEOM slightly overrated/over-celebrated because it was a commercial comeback. I like a decent number of songs, but there are definitely more skips than other albums. I'm excited for the re-release, but TEOM is nowhere near my favorite Mariah album.

To be honest, it's not really worth it. There's nothing new in this release. I was hoping she'd at least include some leftover tracks from that era. I just don't see the point in celebrating 20 years of such an iconic album without offering anything new. I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy, it's just my humble opinion.

I can't believe TEOM is 20 (minutes) old. How come the FLAB remixes were never included on the #MC30 and now the 20th anniversary? We have Tracy Young & Maurice Joshua remixes that never saw the light "officially".

CD? I'm so annoyed when it's a CD only release. Streaming and vinyls are the most important. CD players and cassette players never work in 2025. Vinyl is the only reliable way to secure the music you've purchased and will work on a cheap vinyl player from 1950 or an expensive one from 2025. The sound quality is so superior, and there's nothing like hearing Mariah's voice on a vinyl. Stream is second to vinyl because streaming services often remove music I've paid for. It's infuriating, because I already paid for it, and it simply disappears from my devices.

Yes I was hoping for fresh/unheard material and not remixes we've already listened to. I was also thinking she'll have new visuals but they are all recycled. Lastly it would have been cool to have like a coffee table book or a mini book of stories behind the songs, videos etc, unreleased or BTS photos. She could have detailed out how she landed on doing a 2 part MV for WBt and ILT, the Easter eggs in SIO and DFAU, her collaborations with Louis Vuitton and Nokia for SS. She could have also included recreations of her iconic TEOM album images. This album redefined Mariah Carey, resuscitated her career and introduced her to a new generation, the celebration for this album should have been way more elevated.

Let me start off on a positive note, I'm glad Mariah is doing something to celebrate the anniversary of this amazing album. As much as I loved Mariah growing up, this album truly made me a huge fan of hers. Now with that being said, I'm going to need Mariah to reach into that vault and find a hidden demo or track from that album. Lol. I'm excited to hear the a capella version of Circles, but other than that, everything else is just remixes. Many of them have been released or leaked years ago. I was really hoping for something new. But who knows, maybe she'll have more surprises coming. Anyone know the code for Pepsi Headquarters vault? We need those ringtones released.

It looks like we are getting the full 20th anniversary release on Saturday, April 12 for the actual 20th anniversary of the original release date. I checked Apple Music, and it looks like the re-release is a two-disc set. Disc two, the one with all of the bonus material, has 21 tracks on it. We will be getting lots of goodies on 4/12/25.

Please let "When I Feel It" be on the set. I love that song.
