All I Live For (103,487)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

The first chorus is different. Mariah sings the whole first chorus in the Extended Version. In The Rarities, basically the background singers do the whole first chorus. Also I noticed that in Extended Version, Mariah's voice is less nasal especially in "nobody's gonna steal my heart away".

Apologies if this has already been discussed and deliberated but it's driving me a little insane: "No I would never play around" in the extended version sounds like The Rarities vocal with the word "around" different as if Mariah has taken the Rarities version and spliced it at that point. The extended version goes up on the word around and it doesn't flow like a phrase. I'm very confused: did Mariah condense the extended version to make a short version for The Rarities or - I'm a bit lost as to what I am hearing and what the differences are. Has anyone got this?

Part 4. He's the handsome sweet bloke that genuinely - genuinely - looks like that moment meant the world to him. And to be fair he handles himself far better than I have in front of her - especially given that he had Justin and Alan to contend with. "Oh, smurf off, Jamie" and "Come on down, the water's lovely" was very quickfire comedy and it was probably the funniest part of the show. To have dealt with that and still hold your own in front of that crowd and Mariah herself was impressive. To, further, seize the day and try to get down onto the set is nothing short of gobsmacking. It's a great part of the show.
Enough of me giving compliments - they hurt my head. I'm not used to it.

I am convinced it's different recording takes mixed differently to make two different songs. Note All I Live For is "Extended Version" and AYNAF is "Extended Mix". I think Mariah created two different songs from sessions where no song was ever finalised.

MB30 - reflections (103,478)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Now some time has passed, here are my thoughts.
Disc 1: I've always loved the album, and never understood the group of fans that dismissed it. It's beautifully sung, expertly recorded, it showed more nuances to her voice than before, and her "pen game" as you kids call it these days for some reason, was superb. A 23 year-old writing Anytime You Need a Friend, Never Forget You, Hero, Dreamlover, Everything Fades Away? Wow. Speaking of Everything Fades Away, it was pleasing Mariah included this on the 'original' album. I know over the years each side of the pond has stated their case for the better finish to the album. Perhaps we can agree that All I've Ever Wanted is a gorgeous finale and send off, whereas Everything Fades Away is the hauntingly beautiful epilogue? Looking at this site's discography, more versions of the album included it than didn't, and it seems like Mariah herself views it as the true ending to the album.
Disc 2: Okay wow. It's strange how on The Rarities, All I Live For was just, there. It was a pleasant little bop, but I was like "yeah, I get why it was left off." How is the extended version like a thousand times better? Honestly it elevates the song to a whole new level, and her vocals are astonishing. Great to see Luther added, as I always viewed Endless Love as part of the Music Box era, and was surprised the album never got re-issued to include it after it did so well. Workin' Hard and My Prayer I can't keep away from. I adore them. I am so sad they were locked up in the vault for 30 years, but look at them now having their day in the sun. The TOTP performances and remixes I am happy with, especially as the two full-length 10-minute epic and iconic club mixes were included. The only small hang up I have is with Hero (2009 Version). Firstly, it was recorded in 2008, so let's get that out the way. Second, I think I would have preferred the Spanish version to be included as it was 'of the time', whereas this was a good stretch afterwards, so it feels somewhat out of place. Everything else is from the period (save the two new mixes). I detested the re-recording when it came out to promote The Ballads, but as I have mellowed I see it was what it was. It's fine now, I'm at peace with it, but yeh. It's the only point where I pause briefly.
Disc 3: We all love Proctor's Theatre don't we. What a concert. For many of us, the first one we saw. I also had two worn out VHS in my time, and then switched to the DVD when that was issued. It is my go-to 'comfort' concert. Whenever I've had a bad day and I need lifting up, or I'm perturbed by the world and all what's going on, I watch it. It takes me back to childhood, the wonder that was early Mariah, the nostalgia I wallow in, the happy memories it invokes. Like a few of you, every move, hand gesture, giggle, is committed to memory. Having it on audio is so, so good.
General: Again, I never had an issue with the original cover. It was a bit botched on the cassette version as she was half a head, but the CD always looked beautiful. It gave a Marilyn Monroe vibe, and had a certain simplicity to it. The uncropped version is equally as nice though. If anyone's gone into panic mode over the physical release having a big border around the original cover, this is a slip case that will reveal the uncropped cover beneath it.
But thank you Mariah, for everything. 10/10.

Yes, the physical formats are not due until February 2024. I suppose they will take the pre-orders and then ascertain how many to manufacture. If anyone ordered through MC's store, you can cancel and re-order through Amazon where you get free shipping if you have Prime.

Has anyone decoded the "coat of arms" on the windows Mariah shows in her latest ""Dreamlover" tribute post where she is wearing the black and white flannel shirt? I think this is all very intentional on her part. It's a clue as to where she is (obviously) and what she is up to. I know September 15th will lend some insight too at MSG. I think it's a clue just like pointing to that poster of "I'm gonna need a bigger boat" from back around her birthday. Also, do we have to wait until 2024 for the physical forms of MB30 to be available, I read that somewhere. Thanks.

Daydream is Mariah's magnum opus (103,475)
by Stacey from USA

I always felt like TEOM was Daydream, part 2. She went back to those formulas that worked so well on Daydream and used them again on TEOM. She wrote crossover hits that could be played on Pop/Adult Contemporary stations as well as hip/hop R&B stations. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love TEOM because it reminded me of Daydream. After CB, I thought the light airy whisper was her new direction and I was a bit sad. I miss that strong middle of the road full voice vocal. She went back to what made her so successful in the 1990s, the voice. Remember the theme to TEOM? The return of the voice. Daydream oozes perfection.

Some say it's Music Box, Butterfly, TEOM, and some even say it's Caution or Merry Christmas, but that's only because she has so many.
But Daydream is really where she hit the pinnacle, when she got the most Grammy noms, and hit her 11th no.1. She could have said it's a wrap (no pun) at that point, but she went on and on and gave The Beatles a run for their money.
But Daydream is what I would call a perfect pop album, start to finish. You can sense a longing for more maturity here before she went full blow emancipated in Butterfly, the writing is some of her best, and the melodies are classics.
"Fantasy" is a just a perfect pop song and best example of sampling. It is so good that even the remixes are top notch bops and its stands out a rework such as BE. It even works so well as a film score in multiple variations because it just have so many facets. Rolling Stone putting at no.400 in their 500 greatest songs of all time is just criminal because I can't think of a more perfect pop song. Oh and the rest of the album slays too. Classics each one of them.

While Daydream and Music Box were both certified Diamond two and three years after their releases respectively, the former scored another platinum certification in 2022. Music Box sold more worldwide, but Daydream has sold more here in the US. The expectation with Daydream after Music Box were very high and she delivered. So, I think there was Mariah Mania worldwide from Music Box until Butterfly.

Taking care of herself (103,464)
by Shezz from Pk

Totally loving this MB30 era and a happier looking MC. Her instagram pics were beautiful. Is it just me or does she tend to dress less provocatively each time she loses weight and gets fitter? It's not that the clothes fit her better, her choice of fashion changes. The "girls" are no longer front and center. The E=MC2 era like Andrew mentioned was one of her best. She was the fittest she had ever been. She could have shown off her body much more than she did if she wanted to. I remember her regularly being layered in chic short jackets. The clothes were fitting, revealing her toned figure but the girls were hardly in focus. Each time she gains some weight the girls pop out (pun not intended) - I'm assuming they make her feel more attractive?

I just saw her homage to Dreamlover post. Mariah looks stunning. I love the laid back natural look. Mariah if you're reading this board, please keep this look.
