Old news (47,153) by Alex from England Her voice not being the same as it used to is old news. Did she give her best performance last night? Nope. The worst? Everyone's entitled to their opinion. But I am tired of people pretending it comes as a complete shock. Mariah's voice is touch and go, the woman can still sing and yet sometimes she just can't control her voice at all. We all know that. The thing that I can't stand is how terribly mean some fans are. Mariah is a real person, with emotions and a brain. And she probably was the first to know that her voice started deteriorating. Don't you think that she knows she sounds different to years ago? Sure, I miss the impeccable live vocals, I really do. And yet, I can only feel for her, she actually goes out and sings in front of the world to judge and slam her. I've always wondered how it affects her emotionally. She's a perfectionist and her not being able to hit certain notes on a whim must be mentally hard to accept. I'll just finish by saying that Mariah is a human being, and as a supporter, I respect her. If you don't want to go see her show, that's perfectly fine but please, next time she has a hit or she gives a great performance, don't come back saying "I knew she could do it, Mariah is back, blah blah blah." I consider Mariah more than just a singer, she has affected my life in many ways and I am grateful for the way she touched me. If it is part of her contract, which I am assuming it must be, then she's not getting out of it just because she is going through a separation. She has to make good on her contract just like the rest of us who get paid to do a job for which we signed a contract. It has been many a year since I have had actual arguments on this message board and even though I visit here often, I don't regularly post. If I get absolutely drunk and make a fool of myself, will my friends be a bit pissed at me? Absolutely. If they are true friends, will that destroy or even slightly damage our relationship? Absolutely not. The same here. Regarding MC's current vocal state, I think it's just not good. I am not rich. Why would I pay to see my idol basically single-handedly destroy her legacy? Let's have some perspective. If a non lamb but someone who has always loved MC's music went to a show now, they would think it was less than stellar and tell all their friends she is a phoney. Which she is not. We're all here because we know MC is the real deal with the best voice of all time. But currently that is not what is on display. Overall, if you asked me how I feel and think of MC, I would happily and easily tell anyone that I think she is the greatest vocalist and one of the greatest song writers of all time. But I cannot say that what I've heard from the show was good when it was not. I love Mariah, I believe in Mariah, and I believe she can get back to where she was vocally. But obviously something is amiss. And pretending that everything is incredible when it is not is not kind or supportive. It's the same as letting your friend go out wearing something hideous and doesn't suit them just to not hurt their feelings. I know the lines are blurred because she's famous but c'mon. LC, I agree. I was planning on going in on some people. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But it's like some have given up and want to abandon Mariah. As a fan, you're supposed to support and stick with your artist through the good and bad. Mariah is going through a lot right now. It's bad enough the media and other nasty people bash and put her down. The last thing she needs is her fans to do the same. It's nice to see some people like you and a few others who are continuing to be fans. Mariah you're looking gorgeous. Hang in there, stay strong and don't let any negativity bring you down and keep you from doing what you want to do in life. You're a music legend who has an enormous talent. She needs a strong team around her to help her get back to the place she once was. She can't do everything herself. When she tries to do everything herself, well, we see the results and they're not good. I'm not ashamed of telling the truth. Mariah's shortcomings? (47,148) by Jay from USA I wonder why people are so upset about Mariah's voice. She hasn't had a perfect vocal performance in a long time. Why are people still bringing it up and, even worse, comparing her to other singers. I've been a fan of hers since the early 90's, I remember her perfomances then. And I am grateful that I was able to watch them then and remember them still. I still appreciate her and her talent. We need to stop speculating what her issues are and either just accept her as she is or move on and find someone else to admire. Nothing we say on this forum or anywhere else will change her or her situation. We can't assume we know what goes on in her life, because we only get glimpses of what she wants us to see. Re Christopher (47,147) by G.G. from USA When you said "her fan base seems to enable the delusion more than help the cause", you hit the nail on the head. Mariah has surrounded herself with "yes" men far too long and there is no one around her telling her the truth. I will always love Mariah, but she is ruining her legacy by doing subpar shows. Back in the day she could get away with not dancing and minimal to no stage production going on around her because she had that beautiful mesmerizing voice. Now, she needs lots of dancers, pyrotechnics, videos playing on the big screen etc, to help cover up the fact that she doesn't have that voice anymore. Look at Cher. Cher isn't a great singer, but you leave her concert feeling fully entertained because she puts on one hell of a show. I mean, she can do better, wasn't her best but it was ok and it was just the first show. Relax. If we are bushing her like that what the media will do? Now critics want to refer to those times to keep criticising her for her vocals now. Mariah's voice has always had detractors. Some people will never acknowledge she ever had it in the first place, talking all that smack about it being manufactured in the studio. Also [censored] llambs might as well be plants of people with "an agenda", for all the compassion and loyalty they are showing Mariah, all over the internet. I see you. Mariah has never been even a millionth as harsh, whenever she was asked about someone else's singing ability, as some of the random people who constantly have disparaging things to say about everything she does. She knows not to go around breaking someone's spirit just to be on the bandwagon of the moment. Mariah's not a machine so don't talk about her like she's a broken piece of metal when you go around claiming to be a fan of hers. Wow (47,144) by MimiLamb from Germany I must agree with LC, some comments are really crossing lines and are totally disrespectful. I have been reading a lot of opinions, most of them are based on short Instagram videos and poor quality YouTube videos. I'm sure she had her flaws and her lipsync moments not saying that. But to see the bashing she is getting at the moment makes me sick to my stomach. Is Mariah the problem here or is it you? We all know that her voice isn't what it used to be, that she will have good and not so good moments. But here you guys are treating it like this is the first time it happened, and it's a big shock. Is it not that some just expect something that will not happen anymore? And they can't accept it? If that is the case, blame and shame on yourself instead of Mariah. I laugh when people call me a "delusional lamb" because I'm still loyal to Mariah, but the fact is, I accept the current situation so doesn't that make other people delusional to accept the impossible? To be loyal is not based on the current events for me, Mariah has done so much for me the past 24 years and for that I will be a fan for life regardless of the drama regarding her voice. Ashamed (47,143) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales I am not ashamed to have the opinion that I found the vocal to be amateur at best and drunk karaoke at worst. Why should I be ashamed? I still adore and support MC and I will not be flagging up last nights performances as ones to be listened to to embarrass MC. But guess what? I am entitled to an opinion, and as much as I love this woman, my opinion truthfully is that the vocals were awful. I tell my friends and family that certain clothes they wear are awful. Should I be ashamed? No. Because I'm honest and more importantly I love them. As I love MC. But I'm not going to pretend that she sang greater than anyone who ever sang because she didn't. And considering what she could do it was atrocious. I'm a staunch supporter but I'm not deaf. Ashamed? Absolutely not. I'm a lamb but I'm not going to gives kudos where none are deserved. Live shows, DVDs (47,142) by TJ from Norway I hope that Mariah (Sony or whatever) releases some DVD's from her previous tours, and this one. They was going to release the CB Paris concert, but for some reason it didn't. I was at that show and loved the performance. Yes, Mimi can't sing like she used to, but she could change her songs so she doesn't have to struggle on stage like she does now, and maybe make her show much better. I say she should drop those long dresses (and high heals) and wear something she can walk around in while being comfortable at the same time. That way she can concentrate on singing. The "lambs" (47,139) by LC from USA I am really disgusted by some of the comments on here. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Now, I don't care if any of you call me a "delusional lamb" because I'm being optimistic and supportive. I mean, isn't that your default comeback to anyone who disagrees with your high and mighty "unbiased" opinion? None of us knows what she is going through right now and some of the comments you guys have said are truly horrible. "This is her second divorce. She was fine after the first one." Um, you act like both divorces were the same and should produce the same consequences and emotions. Mariah said that Nick was the only person she ever truly fell in love with. She didn't want kids because she didn't want to bring them up in this lifestyle, but because she was so confident that she and Nick would be together, she had them. Now, look where she is. Imagine how heartbroken she must be. Then, "I would be mortified if my friends and family saw her like this." Really? When Mariah is going through the toughest period of her life, what you care about are your feelings and your emotions and how her problems will reflect on you. Wow. I feel so bad that someone else's divorce and vocal problems will affect how people think of you. If you're mortified, imagine Mariah crying because she disappointed her fans and herself. Even when Whitney couldn't hold a note live or in studio, and the media bashed her endlessly, her loyal fans never turned on her. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Really. Lee, the tour / the voice (47,138) by Marcus from Brazil Lee, I was just thinking the same thing. Some lambs talk as if Mariah's voice problems stem from not resting it. How long does she need to rest her voice for it to have some consistency, 5 more years? I don't think anybody's expecting 90's quality performances anymore. A consistent rather acceptable show would be ok. Mariah is a vocalist, and what entertains us is her voice. All these crazy ad-libbing moments to avoid sustaining or carrying a note shows her voice is completely out of control. It is as if every day she comes closer to the state Whitney's voice was when people started walking out of her concerts. Only thing was Whitney had a well known addiction. I have only this to say, based on what I've heard, if she tours Europe I won't be buying a ticket. If I take friends and family to see her, who I have constantly and consistently praised as the greatest singer of all time, I would be utterly mortified if they heard that. You have no idea how hard the drinking, flying, lack of sleep, etc are on a singer's voice. Vocal rest done properly would include very little of the above. This show put me in a Rainbow tour/Adventures Of Mimi space. I just need to hear a full Vision Of Love performance. That and I'll Be There usually are the litmus test for her current vocal state. I'm concerned that the staging and theatricality are so abysmal. It's boring quite frankly. She looked like she had no damns to give about that show. She looked like Britney on stage, zoned out. If she isn't up to, then cancel the shows. We don't need another Britney Circus tour or Whitney Nothin' But Love tour. A part of me feels bad for Mariah but another part feels like she needs her butt kicked a bit for her shenanigans. Comparissons at Saint (47,130) by May from Denmark The problem is that you are comparing Mariah Carey who is known as "the voice" - someone whose voice matters and who holds a place in history along with the likes of Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Aretha Franklin, etc. of big beautiful and powerful voices in all genres of music - with singers now at days who are known for their mimics and gimmicks and who are not really known for their voices. Katy Perry, Rihanna, etc. are all crummy singers, they are terrible singing live, like truly bad, Rihanna has forgotten the lyrics several times and Katy Perry jumps like a puppy dog on stage without caring how she is sounding. People expect more of Mariah because of this, she was never a dancer, she was never a performer, she was never someone who could do tricks on stage, she was never someone who wore big feathers with flashy lights in her bikinis. She was known as this woman who will present herself in a simple attire or a formal gown on stage and deliver notes with her impressive voice. (Sunday 5 October 2014; 11:47)

Shelly (47,129) by PJW from The U.K. I grasp the concept of a tour DVD, it's pretty self explicable. What I question is the point of a DVD dubbed where she's not happy with certain bits? What does anyone gain from this aside from a false perception of the show, her voice, the true emotion of each moment etc. It removes the necessity of it being this particular tour, unless its an aesthetic thing and one gained some kind of gratification at seeing an up-to-date Mariah on stage miming as opposed to Mariah from X year singing the same song.
