Vegas show 2025 (108,088) by Shezz from Pk
I too tend to avoid the live videos. I have accepted that it is something she is going to do - I am sure the experience overall is enjoyable and better than what comes off in the clips. Rareties II would be amazing. Reclaiming her Hot 100 crown will be a sweet moment this year.

I am still hopeful for some new music this year and I'm sure I will enjoy whatever she puts out, she's taken this long so it surely won't be something subpar. I have never not enjoyed any Mariah album. I enjoyed Caution.

Whatever the reason for her vocal decline, imagine if it pains us - how does she feel about it. It is obviously out of her control or being the perfectionist that she is she would have done something about it if she could have.

MC can get her voice back. I believe in my heart that she will. I feel bad now that I was so excited for a new album every two years from 1990-1999. Maybe every five years would have been better to preserve her voice. Just thinking out loud. Any way I believe Teddy Swims is the first male artist to come along in a while to have the vocal technique and range like MC had in the 1990s.

I completely agree with you, Jamie. It pains me to accept that the voice we once knew is gone forever. That's why I no longer enjoy her live performances, not out of hate, but because it brings a sense of sadness. The whistle register was the last piece of her vocal magic, but now it sounds flat and unpleasant.

Honestly, I'm more excited about The Rarities II than anything else at this point. It has dawned on me that Mariah hasn't recorded anything in six years, likely because she can no longer deliver decent vocals, even in the studio. It's truly heartbreaking.

That said, I'm deeply grateful for the incredible legacy and discography she has left us. When she was at her best, she was truly in a league of her own.

At this point, I just want to celebrate one last victory, her reclaiming the record for the song with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. If nothing else, it's a testament to her enduring impact on music history.

Pre Grammy awards show (108,085) by Bobby A from United States
R&B artists were recognized with many awards during pre Grammys ceremony. Chris Brown won for Best R&B Album and Muni Long won for Best R&B Performance. I feel that there is about to be a shift in the music industry this year with R&B album releases. Chris Brown's album is mostly full of afrobeats that took him out of his comfort zone. Now if Beyonce wins Album of the Year, there will certainly be other R&B artists stepping out of their comfort zone. MC, this is your year to step out of your comfort zone and release an album you have never done before. Start a new genre of music, MC. I know you can do it with some help from some industry heavy hitter producers and songwriters.

She sounds ok, not sure it's making me want to go watch her again though. I've been lucky enough to watch her numerous times over the years. I'm more looking for what magic she can create in the studio these days. I hate to say it but from the clips I've seen it's made me think "give it up" and I never ever thought I would think that about Mariah. Maybe it's just the amateur clips not showing the full experience of being there. This is not me being hateful in anyway. I've always loved Mariah, but from the girl I once knew it's hard for me to hear her changed voice live. After I listened to a few clips I closed YouTube and my Apple Music kicked back in with Alone In Love playing and that's what gives me chills, the voice that was. I pray she gives us a great next album though and I'm proven wrong as she is a legend.

My 2025 - hopes, dreams, wishes, and prayers for Mariah Carey (108,082) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
And you're right, Bobby. Charmbracelet was almost Mariah stepping into a favorite pair of old shoes she'd forgotten about as far as the live instrumentation being such a presence on so many songs. Maybe that's why the tour was so successful even in terms of her vocals. She kinda recorded those more jazzy songs "live" with a full band, IIRC. Had it been done more intentionally (not that the album didn't come about organically) I believe TEOM wave would have eventually lifted Charmie up as well.

What's good about it is that nobody'd be able to call her acting brand new. This is actually firmly in her wheelhouse since her debut.

It's nothing new-new since Vanishing and The Wind, but definitely underutilized. She did Lullaby of Birdland on the ECT and more recently Nevertheless in Abu Dhabi, she even had that kinda ragtimey intermezzo of Sweetheart with the dancers and the band. I that. More please. But I digress.

I really wanted to talk about how much I regret You Got Me not getting a video or single release. It's not that it's her greatest song but it's the album's #1 earworm. It's a feel-good moment. I'd sometimes rather she'd kept it for a different time than it becoming "filler". It would've been a hit even if another lesser singer released it. I don't understand why Lyor Cohen bypassed it over TTR and MC never references it. Stream of consciousness over.

Butterfly tour (108,080) by BFF from United States
Listening to some of the Butterfly tour audio released on the "Mariah Station Concerts" got me to thinking about what would have happened if Mariah had continued the tour in North America. I know she stopped it after the Hawaii date because she wanted to film "Double O Soul" with Chris Tucker. Does anyone know/remember what dates were planned? Were they similar to the ones she eventually committed to in North America for the Rainbow tour?

By the way, Mariah Station Concerts has some great exclusive audio and video from that tour. I think the person who runs it has been buying rare/unreleased footage from engineers who worked on the tour's Australia dates.

My 2025 - hopes, dreams, wishes, and prayers for Mariah Carey (108,079) by Stacey from USA
I've never seen Charmbracelet as something that could have done better, been better. I think the album exactly what was intended. The album provided Mariah with an opportunity to deal with her struggles through the writing of songs. That was her therapy. The promotion of the album allowed MC to explain her side of things and show the world that all she needed was a few hours of sleep, and not believe all the crazy tabloid rumors. That album and subsequent tour (of which I saw her live the last night of said tour), put her voice in great shape to give us TEOM. Is CB my favorite album? No. But I'll always be grateful for the purpose it served in MC's storied career.

For me, Charmbracelet was more of an therapy album, almost like a gospel theme one. Actually, it would be awesome if she would redo a whole album with a more gospel vibe. It has spiritual and anthemic vibe. I play it when I really need calm and spiritual vibe in my life.

Hindsight is 20/20, to be honest, looking back, please don't crucify me for saying this, but I'm glad Charmbracelet didn't do well. Otherwise we may not have had the dominant TEOM and early E=MC2 eras, where Mariah completely ruled the airwaves for 2 years.

To me, "Charmbracelet" was too long, needed stronger less detached vocals, and needed an uptempo lead single rather than a ballad. Unfortunately, most of the songs included were mid-tempos or ballads and many sounded too similar. Songs like "You Had Your Chance", "Irresistible", and "Lullaby" all blended together in my opinion. I found "Bringing on the Heartbreak" to be the most memorable song on the album because she really let loose vocally rather than holding back like she did on "Through the Rain". She probably needed to take more time off before releasing it, but I understood the need to get the public to forget about "Glitter" at that point.

For me Charmbracelet is another outlier album. What do you think if 7 Aurelius and Dre and Vidal were the only producers on Charmbracelet? They could have really made Charmbracelet sell more copies and not been such a disjointed album in my opinion. I feel that Lyor Cohen gave MC some bad advice by telling her to choose Through the Rain as the first single. Charmbracelet was an great album, but it could have been better.

My 2025 - hopes, dreams, wishes, and prayers for Mariah Carey (108,074) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Caution is an outlier for sure. The production and the way Mariah wrote is something I've never seen her do before. That speaks to her finding a new way to express yourself like the lyrics are very conversational and like she's trying to send a message to someone or explain herself in ways that are very "real world". I'd love if she continued to do that on future albums. So I say yes to Dev Hynes. He made a really great contribution to the Sugababes "Lay Down in Swimming Pools" but it never got released because of sample clearing. It's from 2013 but you'd never know listening to it now.

Does anyone else like the Top of the Pops performance better than the MTV Unplugged version of it? I love that it is just Mariah and Trey accompanied by piano and the other singers. Fantastic standout amongst her early performances.

I agree. I'm not religious, and I found the post to be totally benign. I understand that people may have felt harmed in the name of religion in their past(s). I definitely have felt harmed in the name of religion in my past, but that doesn't mean that we get to label all religious people or religious references are bad or suspect. I would think that anyone who describes themselves as progressive would welcome diversity of thought and freedom of expression, especially when that thought/expression is completely benign and positive.

Yes, you can call me Bobby. One other faithful board member used to call me Bobby when he posted regularly during the TEOM/E=MC2 glory days, but then Save the Day was released and things change for him and many other board members.

I am just having fun about not posting that much. Maybe MC will surprise us all and my faithful friend will come back and post more. I look forward to your next post.

Bobby (can I call you that?), don't cut down your post on my account. That would be mournful. There's room for everybody. We all bring something to the table. I'm on my live and let live tip, so let's play.

I really do enjoy Muni Long's tone and you're right, she has adopted the way MC projects her head voice and that's probably why their vocals blend so well. I've caught her on a few interviews giving very much The MC Academy of Media Training. I hope the twinning continues in future projects.
