Almost Home (37,228) by Ryan from the Philippines
Geez, I'm so excited. I can't wait to hear the song. It's almost Tuesday here in the Philippines and that would mean we have to wait until Wednesday morning to finally listen to it. But it's ok. I know it's going to be worth the wait.

Stacey / Almost Home (37,227) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I thought the same thing when I heard the snippet. I can't wait to hear the full track myself. I have this gut feeling the new album is going to feature more of her full voice and have more gospel influenced tracks than the last few albums. I can't wait for Tuesday.

Mariah belting (37,221) by Matthew from USA
I think she just has different ways of belting. I like it when she belts in her mid-range, although lately she tends to belt in her high range. Take her latest Christmas album. The belting on the opening of Auld Lang Syne is sublime. There's a part in Christmas Time Is In The Air where she sings "and to feel love like ours always". That is also very beautiful. But that is her belting in her mid-range. But on that same album, the song with John Legend, when it gets to chorus and she starts belting "because it's Christmas time get together it's going to be so nice", it sounds a little shouty/screechy to me. She is kind of overpowering him, whereas when they did the Save The Music duet, they were blended perfectly. So I don't enjoy it as much when she is belting high, which seems to be more taxing to her. But it's just a personal preference thing. It's amazing that she has all these options. Most singers don't. It sounds like she is belting high on Almost Home.

Yes, you did directly quote me, but you also twisted what I was trying to say with your following commentary. Which would make it out of context, it's possible to intepret things differently. Whether they paid her 18 million or 100 million, the show has to be edited and they're not going to edit based on who they paid the most for, they going to edit to their discretion, what they think works for the show, what they think people want to see. If they think pople want more Nicki, then that's what they're gonna get.
As far as Mimi's judging, I guess pople just see what they see. So we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Almost Home (37,219) by Terna from Nigeria
I love it already. The voice is back. The reason I got drawn to her in the first place. Her belt is different from the rest.

I think she's almost home, regarding her hits and this single. I love it.

RadChad and Jenny (37,216) by Lee from UK
RadChad, I basically summarised your post (37,191) by using a direct quote which was not at all out of context. Unless, of course, you usually say one thing but mean another. Jenny, sometimes the truth is harsh and can often come off as rude. I have yet to hear Mariah give useful constructive feedback. But like RadChad says, we may just have to wait for the live shows. I personally do not believe it is an editing problem. Why the hell would you pay someone $18 million dollars and then not get your money's worth on the show? I think they didn't show a lot of Mariah's comments during the Hollywood rounds because she didn't have a lot to say. Like with all reality TV shows, you can only edit what you are given.

Matthew from USA / vocal layering / belting at the end (37,215) by Will from England
Not really. I think it's just because she's using a high part of her voice (something like HATEU) and just stacked it with multiple layers. She's not belting those words. As for the belting itself, as I started off with, I can't really hear any screeching at all, I think it's just your headphones lol. I like the vocal layering personally, I think it adds some depth to the sound. Since she usually belts out at the end of a song, she doesn't really say the words clearly, as she's just elongating words and adding extra vocals for the climax. If she were to release the ending to say ABMB (assuming that we'd never heard it before), I'd say that most people would have trouble understanding what she's belting out at the end, since it's very much out of context. Once the full song has been released, I'm sure people will understand.

Almost Home snippet (37,214) by Geezy from USA by way of NYC
Like Stacey, I am a fan of the full voice first and foremost, because that's what drew to MC in the very beginning. Don't get me wrong, the whisper and soft vocals work for some songs and I don't mind it when necessary, but the full voice gets me each and every time and this is what sets MC apart from the rest. So far I am in full amazement. I can't wait for the full song. Tuesday can't come fast enough for me. Bring it on home MC.

Matthew (37,213) by Stacey from USA
No, I get where you are coming from. That's part of the problem I had with her belting voice off CB. I know some love that CD, but for me, the belting parts sounded screechy. She either whispered or belted and it didn't work for me. I miss that middle of the road vocal. Songs off TEOM and E=MC2 had a fuller belting voice (aka Stay The Night, Shake It Off, etc), but then songs like Mine Again were purposely cracked, so maybe it's the style she's trying to create rather than what her voice status is. Know what I mean?

Almost Home (37,212) by Licia from USA
I can not wait to hear the full version. I was expecting a whoa is me ballad, but I'm happy to hear it's uptempo. I usually don't pre order anything before hearing it in full, but I might have to make an exception.

Almost Home (37,211) by Stacey from USA
Wow. I can't wait to hear the full song. I am loving that voice. I know some love the whisper/softer tracks, but for me, this is the sound I fell in love with nearly 20 years ago. It's that full voice vocal that sets her apart from everyone else.

Almost Home (37,210) by Matthew from USA
I just heard the snippet and I like it. But I was wondering, why is it that Mariah's belting voice seems so screechy lately? Almost like she is on helium or like the chipmunks voice. I started to hear it on Triumphant, during the chorus you can barely make out what she is saying. I think she's saying "Can't fall down" and then she sings "Stay triumphant keep on living". But that "can't fall down" part is very screechy and not at all pleasant. And I'm kind of hearing it again on this snippet. I can't understand some of what she's saying because it is a bit screeched out. Is that just how her belting voice is now, or is it the production, or is it just my headsets? Lol. Is it just me?

Through The Rain remix / Almost Home (37,209) by Jimbo from UK
I just heard the Almost Home snippet. It's more radio friendly then I thought it would be. Not sure I can make a proper assessment until I hear the full song, but I wish MC would use less production in her songs. Just her voice and a simple piano would be amazing. Layering is great, but I think it's been a bit overdone at this point. Does anyone else love the Through the Rain remix featuring Kelly Price? I've been having an emotionally tough time recently, and whenever I feel blue, I put this song on and it makes me feel much more positive. I love the gospel vibe. The harmonies are beautiful. Mariah and Kelly's voice blend so well. I prefer this version to the original.

Lee from the UK (37,206) by RadChad from United States
You completely misinterpreted what I was saying. First off, I wasn't saying she would have to be the only female judge in order for her personality to shine on the show. I was more so saying that the tension from the feud, editing (don't forget that), and Nicki's agenda to prove herself, hog the spotlight, and upstage Mariah, has thrown the chemistry off and as a result it appears Mariah is holding back to keep the peace. Personally, I feel Mariah's presence speaks for itself on the show, I genuinely get happy when she finally gets a chance to speak, values her opinion, and sure the contestants feel the same. Mariah Carey does not have to be extra and compete with Nicki Minaj, because she is above it and has already proven herself worthy. I'm happy she's not giving in to Nicki's theatrics. I can't fathom how a die hard Mariah fan can watch the show and not see all this. What's ridiculous is actually comparing Mariah to Nicki Minaj in a less than way. Mariah needs to grow a pair? Really?
Like I said, the live shows will reveal the truth.

Almost Home snippet/Idol (37,205) by Randy from USA
I was hoping for something without vocal layering, but it sounds very current and not a R&B or Pop ballad, which would be ignored by radio, so not bad. I can't wait to buy it. As far as Idol, as with certain live performances in the past , I see a lot of fans are rallying around Mariah and making excuses for poor performance. Let me say this: Fox paid her 18 million, so it's not logical to edit her out. It is what it is, a disappointment. The woman who uses words like euphoric, disarming and elusive in #1 pop hits should be able to give well-worded relevant criticism to newcomers after 20+ years in the industry. I love her dearly, but she's underwhelming as far as Idol goes.

Wow "vacant useless comments"? That seems very rude and harsh. You can be honest without sounding disrespectful. Maybe you didn't mean it to be rude, but it came across that way. Just saying.

RadChad (37,202) by Lee from UK
You said, "I do believe that if Mariah was the only female judge, her personality would shine more and her critiques would be more in-depth/get more airtime." Now if this was true, than Mariah has huge problems. Why on earth would she need to be the only female in order for her personality to shine through, that statement is bordering on ridiculous. Mariah's dullness on Idol so far and her lack of enthusiasm has nothing to do with "another female judge". Mariah would look just as uncomfortable and give the same vacant, useless comments if it was just her, Randy and Keith. If this has been caused by Nicki's presence, as you said, then she needs to get over it and grow a pair.

More Mariah Idol (37,201) by CDC from CA
If Mariah's Idol critiques are what they appear on screen, then okay. I can understand why she can't gather herself to rave over performances that are just average. Mariah has done things with her voice that are so unbelievable that they're almost scandalous. Listening to a lot of the contestants on Idol is like watching paint dry on a wall. I have some friends who work for an entertainment news program based in Toronto, so I've heard a plethora of celebrity stories (among them Mariah at TIFF a few years ago, but I'll keep those to myself ), and apparently seniority is a huge deal in celebrity-land (even though they almost never acknowledge age as a number). It's difficult to believe that artists with 15+ careers would allow a fledgling to take over the way Nicki has.

Sigh of relief (37,200) by RadChad from United States
It comforts my soul to know that they're still some lambs that see through the whole "Nicki is a better more eloquent judge" thing that's been playing out on here. I glad I'm not the only one that can see through all the slicing, dicing, and remixing of show; along with Nicki's motive of operation. We'll all know the truth during the live shows.

Almost Home (37,199) by Stella from Greece
I just found out about Almost Home. Mariah singing for this big blockbuster film is so exciting and full of potential. If the song is great, it could win major awards. Imagine what it could go for her, already legendary, career. I also hope that Almost Home is the new single of her yet untitled album and that people have forgotten all about that bad song Triumphant. I can't wait to hear the new song, we are so close.
