Sam Smith has embarrassed himself with ridiculous and disgusting stage performances. I don't know anyone who wants to see an obese, sweaty, unattractive man on stage acting like it's daring - and not vulgar - to behave the way he does. It was daring 30 years ago, today it's just pathetic. Madonna take note.
The two of them trying to reclaim the word "vulgar" amplifies the patheticness of it all. They both look desperate and somewhat oblivious - a bit like Miley "Yeah we do what we want cos we, like, do what want" Cyrus. I don't know anybody - anybody - who does not think that Sam Smith and Madonna are desperate has-beens.
Mariah is often called a has-been but the Christmas defrost keeps her quite relevant. Whilst thinking on this I realise that Mariah x Christmas is something I should fully support. Thus I call again for a third Christmas album - perhaps a Christmas duets album.
As for his "gender identity" Sam Smith is free to declare what his pronouns are - just as Edward is free to declare that he is not going to use them when referencing him. Gender Theory like Race Theory can be used as attempts to control language, thus controlling education and the minds of the young. You are free to believe in it, just as most people, who refuse to flatly deny observable reality, will not.

How insecure does someone have to be to diminish and discount a complete stranger's gender identity? If you don't understand it, it's okay to say that. But you are nobody to to call it "crap". How about treating others the way you'd like to be treated instead? Seriously, it's so damn ignorant. Mind your own business and be glad that your gender identity is not being attacked by complete strangers. Is it that hard to respect everyone even if you don't understand their gender?

Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour (103,863)
by Will from England
| |
|
|
That tour was my first time seeing Mariah live. It was surreal to finally be seeing/hearing her after so many years (I've since seen her twice more), but it was strange that they opted to not have large screens so that the audience at the back could see her, especially in such a large venue like the O2, even at the Royal Albert Hall they had screens. Vocally it was stunning and everything was on point.

Often imitated, never duplicated.
It was as professional as a tour from her I had seen. And it visually quite great. Plus, the variety of songs from the discography of course better because it was late in the day.
I remember Martyn asking my opinion at the time and I could only say that I didn't really care about the lipsync or the awkward transition because it was just like a big Mariah Carey nightclub. And Martyn liked it. Although he was a lad of very, er, questionable taste.
What did you like about it?

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how great Mariah is looking right now? She looks so good in that black dress with the Emancipation straight blonde hair, and the latest video and picture on her Instagram. So so good.

Madonna is definitely out of touch with reality. She should have some respect for herself, her family and her legacy. I've always given her props for staying fit and giving her all in her concerts, but she's definitely in denial. You can be a woman or a man of a certain age and still have some class. As for Sam Smith, as much as I like his first two albums, he's turned into a clown. It is simply disgusting. This gender idiology crap has permeated into everything, it's ridiculous.

I just watched fan footage of Madonna at the Greenwich O2 with her "Celebration Tour". How obnoxious can you get? I know Madonna had made a career of carrying herself with a superior "smurf you" attitude - but that show is absolutely monolithic in its pretentiousness.
I love Ray of Light, Confessions on a Dancefloor, and many random singles from her - she can write a pop song. But she lacks any kind of class, regardless of how much of an English accent she tries to put on. I do not need to see a 60year old woman kissing someone on stage as if this makes her "daring".
Like Sam Smith, she's absolutely vulgar. At least Mariah had maintained a level of class (notwithstanding Stella-gate).

Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour (103,859)
by Brandon from USA

From all the clips I saw, she seemed in really good voice for most of the tour. I really enjoyed the improvisational moments and seemed to go for it vocally and was very confident in her voice. I also liked how she interacted with the dancers more and had small choreographed moments with them (Fantasy remix, Obsessed, IKWYW) as opposed to them just being background props. She also stayed in shape the entire tour and I loved her ensembles (even the leotards). Her confidence was on 10 and she seemed to like what she was doing. She seemed to be stepping outside of her comfort zone with this tour. I wish she had continued with that style of performance and not slip back into her old ways.

Black & White Hero (103,850)
by Andrew from the UK

Just rewatched Proctor's Theatre and a bit puzzled by the inclusing of the B&W clip of Mariah on stage singing Hero in what is clearly a professionally edited scene.
Was this the original Hero video? Possibly canned by Tommy Mottola in favour of the real live-ish version? You would think surely that they would not have gone to all that trouble for a 30 second not-even-closer for the special.

Only when I am not in my music zone. I keep my classic daytime and primetime soap opera collection thoughts to myself. No one is interested in those old classic soap opera series anymore. Did you ever watch As The World Turns and Dallas episodes on UK ITV and ITV2 channels?

I just wonder if this album with young producers that MC has been mentioning for 2 years now is an album where these young producers have reimagined some of her biggest hits R&B and Hip Hop hits. I could see London On DA Track, Pop&Oak, Tommy Brown, J White Did It, Lido, and Nova Wav on the album.

Bill, you got me again. I forgot the Extra Festive vocals where used to combine with Justin's vocals on the Superfestive vocals. The Superfestive version is on Justin's Mistletoe album. They have a close 2 year release date that I confuse the two versions. Am I correct that MC used the Extra Festive vocals for the Superfestive version with Justin Beiber?

With all this duet talk I had a vision of what MCIIY could've been, instead of her trying to catch lighting in a bottle twice, she could've gone completely out of the box for her Christmas follow up and made it a duet album that would've lasted the test of time. Here's the reimagined track list in 2010:
1. Christmas Time Is In The Air Again (ft. Michael Buble) 2. O Little Town Of Bethlehem (ft. Celine Dion) 3. Oh Santa (ft. Destiny's Child) 4. The First Noel (ft. Whitney Houston) 5. When Christmas Comes (ft. John Legend) 6. Here Comes Santa Clause (ft. Snoop Dogg) 7. One Child (ft. The Clark Sisters) 8. O Come All Ye Faithful (ft. Patricia Carey) 9. Where Are You Christmas (ft. Faith Hill) 10. All I Want For Christmas Is You (ft. Justin Bieber)

Mariah duets album 2024 (103,841)
by jaker20 from US
| |

Good list. I probably won't put One Sweet Day, because there's no work to be done there and it's already on 3 or more albums and collections.
I'll Be There, Endless Love are also in so many albums, but I'll Be There (non-live), and the Endless Love (live) would be interesting. Both are recorded and not on any albums.
We're Not Making Love Anymore needs be somewhere already. It'll take a lot of work to remaster or clean up, but with all the technology these days, if they don't do it, someone will and release for free on YouTube or something. She's too lazy with her catalog.
Yours will give her PTSD with all the story behind it, but I'm interested on how it sounds like and it'll get people talking.

Mariah duets album 2024 (103,836)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Interesting. My duets album would be a compilation of existing ones.
1. We're Not Making Love Anymore - Michael Bolton 2. I'll Be There - Trey Lorenz 3. Endless Love - Luther Vandross 4. One Sweet Day - Boyz II Men 5. Everytime I Close My Eyes - Babyface (MC's vocals to be brought way up into the foreground of the mix) 6. The Beautiful Ones - Dru Hill 7. Chain of Fools - Aretha Franklin 8. When You Believe - Whitney Houston 9. Whenever You Call - Brian McKnight 10. Hopelessly Devoted to You - Olivia Newton John 11. Against All Odds - Westlife 12. With You I'm Born Again - John Legend 13. Hero - Pavarotti 14. Yours - Justin Timberlake 15. Got to Be Real - Patti LaBelle 16. Supremes Medley - Diana Ross 17. It's a Wrap - Mary J. Blige 18. Glitter-era duet - Prince
I'd keep off Christmas songs and rap features personally. The hype sticker alone would see this fly off the shelves as she's sung with some brilliant singers in her time. Recent duets aren't good so I'd keep those off too. Plus this has some exclusives like Michael Bolton, JT, and John Legend.
