Pearls before swine (37,062) by nikki from usa
Back in the 90's, I always thought it was weird that whenever Mariah was mentioned, so was Tommy for "finding" her. She showed up in front of him with the hits in her hand - how hard did he look? But, Clive wasn't mentioned everytime Whitney did something, why isn't Mottola after Celine for signing and promoting her? This doesn't happen to anyone else, just Mariah. Now, Mottola isn't mentioned anymore. Mariah showed up at the right time when Sony was near bankruptcy. They hadn't had a hit in years. He needed her and she saved his ass. She could've gone to Warner and been just fine - they also thought she'd be the next big thing. He even admits Mariah went against him in '95 and on, so he had nothing to do with those hits. After Mariah leaves Sony, she continues to sell millions and get #1's. Tommy spent millions trying to get Thalia to crossover including a magazine called Thalia! that went nowhere. Now, he's using Mariah's name for sales. Tommy's career is gone and forgottoe about while Mariah Carey's on.

Nightline (37,061) by Nattalie from USA
I tried to watch it and set my DVR and it didn't record. WTH. I just don't understand. I looked for it too and thought maybe there was just a delay. And when I tried to come back to watch, it was not there.

Mariah/Barbara (37,060) by Leito from USA
Lashonda Collins: After Mraiah said "I didn't know she sang. I thought she rapped," you forgot to add she looked to the side, flickered her hand and said "or something like that". Lol. The shade of it all. She's always very subtle, but always makes me giggle. I love Mimi to death. I can't wait for the season of AI to start and new music from the queen.

Love it (37,059) by Billy from Greece
I love that at this point any tv, radio or printed reference to Mariah starts with the following: "With a career spanning more than two decades..." Hell yeah.

Mariah/Barbara (37,058) by lashonda collins from usa
I couldn't help but bust out laughing when Mariah replied to Barbara by saying, "I didnt know she sang, I thought she rapped." Don't let Mariah fool you, she could make Nicki cry in thirty seconds if she really wanted too. At this point in her career, a queen bee cannot be bothered by the likes of an ant. The ant being Nicki. So Mariah's not even wasting her time. She's beautiful, she has a real family now, something she has always wanted. She's a goldmine, she doesnt have to work another day in her life, she works because that's what makes her happy. I heard what I think was a diss track to Mariah by Nicki and it featured a couple other artists, they were implying that she couldn't get work and that she was washed up. Which really pissed me off, can I use that word here? Nicki is the one who should really be worried about work because a few milly in the bank aint nothing. She aint got Mimi's paper, you feel me? Peace.

Tommy (37,057) by lashonda collins from usa
Wow. After reading just that tiny bit of his memoir, he really does himself sound like a monster without hearing it from others.

Tommy and Mariah / Barbara and Mariah (37,055) by Stacey from USA
Tommy has his right to tell his story, as crazy as it may sound to some of us. They both helped each other's career. Mariah's talent carried her to the moon and back, lol, but she needed someone to put gas in the rocketship. That was Tommy. Mariah needed the jump and she did the rest. Since Christmas has ended, I've gone back to listening to Mariah's best remixes during my workouts. Oh my. BTW, I just watched BW's interview with Mariah. Her kids are so cute. My son is a month older than MC's twins. This time is so fun.

Tommy/Australia (37,054) by Caroline from USA
Those excerpts just prove that this man is really off his nut. There are fans who like to justify Tommy's being a jerk to Mariah simply because of the highs she reached in her career with him. I'm not one of them. He has always seemed, to me, to be a self absorbed jerk and these excerpts just reinforce my thinking. Mariah does give Tommy credit where credit is due in respect to her career. IMO he doesn't reciprocate that at all and instead acts if though her own natural talent played no part in her success. Also the excerpts don't seem like he's telling his side of anything; it just seems like he's justifying being a psycho and in the process validates what Mariah has said in the past in regards to their relationship. Anyway, congrats to Mariah on the success of her Australia shows. I wasn't there, but judging by the YT vids and Aussie tweets, she sounded amazing and the fans really enjoyed her.

Tommy's input (37,053) by Carol from Spain
Recognizing Tommy's influence on Mariah's early years is fair. I'm not even arguing on that, But she always struggled from creative control over her work, she never expected that Tommy would be so controlling, so she allowed him to do things his way in the beginning. On the other hand, I think Mariah's success would come, because, besides Sony, another label (Warner) was interested in her. If he was responsible for her success, then he was also responsible for her downfall in 2001, when he sabottaged her album Glitter and her movie. I guess he forgot to mention that. He was responsible for the fact she didn't get the song "My heart will go on". He was upset she left him, so he tried to destroy her, but Mariah showed us how strong she is and prevaled. Just because someone gives you a helping hand, it doesn't mean you must crawl at that person's feet for life. Mariah ows nothing to Tommy, except the chance he gave her with her first album. She owns her success, not him.
Let's not foget that, after Mariah, also Michael Jackson spoke he was not a good guy, J-Lo left the label because of controlling issues. So something was wrong, beyond Mariah.

Tommy Mottola (37,051) by Geezy from USA by way of NYC
I feel like Tommy has every right to tell his story, yes he was very influencial to Mariah during the first six years of her career. He was important to the business side of things and that was a major part of Mariah's early success, which has lead her to be part of the legend she is today. On the flip side of that, Mariah is responsible for her own talents as a singer-songwriter-producer. If she didn't have those gifts, there would have not been anything for Tommy to groom and bring to the limelight. So they were magic and beneficial to one another IMHO.

Set list - RibbonB from USA (37,049) by Gilbert from USA
Hi Ribbon, you're right. I didn't think about the fans in Australia, because they don't get to see her as often as we do here in the USA. I should've stated that is how I feel when she does tours here in the USA and I've been to quite a few concerts and I'm sure if she returns I'll go again, but after awhile, I just feel bored, because I'm always hearing the same songs.

Tommy M (37,048) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
If those exerts from his memoir are in fact what he wrote, then he's even weirder than I thought lol. He actually sounds properly obsessed. Admitting that you defied your therapist is crazy. The memoir kind of vindicates everything Mariah has said in the past for me. I find the timing of the release of the book interesting too. I think Tommy knows that with American Idol, Mariah is about to forge a different, quite significant chapter in her career, one he has absolutely nothing to do with, and in some crazy way wants to take credit for Mariah even having that platform. I think he did wonders for Mariah's career, but let's remember one thing; Mariah is the most successful female producer and songwriter of all time. Nobody handed her tracks to turn up and sing. If Tommy promoted Mariah and gave her a distributional vehicle, Mariah's part as the actual talent, voice and person who crafted the hits can't be overlooked. Of the two, I think Mariah's input was more fundamental than Tommy's. You can't create a voice or a good songwriter.

Tommy M (37,047) by Chase from USA
I've always considered Tommy Mottola an extremely important force in Mariah's early career and success, and I have sometimes been disappointed with Mariah's tendency to focus on freeing herself from the marriage. That said, I've also recognized he was probably not a squeaky clean character and certainly didn't have his wife's best interests at heart. After reading that article, I can clearly see just how self-centered, delusional, and cruel he really is. He did not and still does not treat Mariah like she is a human being. I don't think he ever viewed her as a wife, but rather an object he could mold and possess as a boost to his ego. It's clear he still sees her success that way. I wish him well in his future endeavors, and I am grateful for the positivity that came from the guidance he provided. As always, I am glad Mariah is free, and now I understand why she puts so much emphasis on gaining that freedom.

Tommy's therapist is right (37,046) by RibbonB from USA
He is and was delusional. TM recognized her talent and all that he did should have remained under the realm of executive. He thought he could absord her, which he didn't and can't. Poor guy.

Tommy Mottola (37,045) by Licia from USA
Noone can deny how much Tommy has helped Mariah in her career. I think if she had went with another label, she would have been successful because of her talent alone, but his influence helped take her to another level. I don't however like how he thinks it was somehow ok to treat her the way he did because in the long run she became this uber success. I have never heard stories of Clive Davis locking Whitney in the studio and making her work year after year. Look at how successful she was.

Aussie fans critics have no reason to be (37,044) by Carol from Spain
I'm finding it hard to believe some Australian fans are upset because she didn't sing that many songs. Well, she did sing, didn't she? The quantity is not important, but the awesome quality she delivered. I don't want to step on any lambs feet, but she never came to my country and many of us here would give a foot and a leg to have her sing one song in Portugal. Eight amazing songs is rather good. And the fact she leaves the stage too much? Come on, if you're a lamb you know that's about to happen, right? Be grateful, because you guys got a chance that maybe I'll never have.

Performances/setlist (37,043) by Licia from USA
I'm so happy that she got through all three of those performances and she did a great job. As far as her set list, if she would have only performed her 18 number singles then everybody would be upset, because she didn't do a song that wasn't a number 1 single. It's a no win situation. It's hard for me choose one of her songs to listen to. I can't imagine how hard it is to pick out a list of 15 songs spanning a 20+ year career. She can't please everybody.

Set list (37,039) by Bill from the UK
I think the set list looks okay to me. It has a nice mix of her older material and her later releases. I suppose when your career spans 20 years and you have had so many hits, it must be hard to find a balance. I guess most artists would kill for that predicament. That said, I was surprised that Vision Of Love didn't make an appearance, as she has always made a point to sing that, and also I was equally shocked to not see Without You on the line up as that was her international break through in many territories, Australia being no exception.

The thing is, you didn't pay to see/hear the concert and most people see it once in any given era, so she wants to give them the highest quality and set list that she determines at any given time period. It isnt something she's going to change concert to concert.

Australia concerts (37,036) by Geezy from USA by way of NYC
First and foremost happy new year to the entire Archives family, I hope you had a nice holiday season and best wishes for 2013. I watched many of the clips from this mini tour of Australia and MC handled her business vocally, which only says that she can be her best friend or wrost enemy when it comes down to taking care of her instrument. Also her confidence has been restored, she seemed very relaxed and full of fire, which is very promising for this future era and tour. As I said before, it looks like we are in for something special and I can't wait. As for the setlist, she can't and won't please everyone, I'm just happy to see positive moments like these. Blessings to all.

Australian concerts (37,035) by Scott from USA
So Mariah would be about to take the stage for her final Australian concert. I hope she alters her set list slightly. Mariah has had two number ones in Australia: Fantasy and We Belong Together and yet she hasn't been singing Fantasy. She opened the show with this when I saw her in Morocco, so I do find it strange that she wouldn't do the same in a country where the song went to number one and instead open with a song that many in the crowd won't know at all. I suppose you can't please everyone, but she should at least be trying to please the majority - sing Fantasy!

Concert set list (37,034) by Gilbert from USA
I would be upset if I paid to see that concert. The only thing I enjoyed seeing in the set list was a Can't Let Go/Love Takes Time medley. She can do so much with her songs, I just wish she wouldn't sing the same songs all the freaking time.
