Mariah says new songs will feel like classic Mariah songs (36,094) by Stella from Greece
I'm not hearing classic Mariah on anything about Triumphant. One can only hope that the rest of the album isn't anything like the first single though. She also said that the album will be an eclectic mix of vocally driven ballads, mid-tempos and up-tempos. Fingers crossed she really SANG on this album.

Triumphant (Get 'Em) chart update plus bonuses (36,093) by Rod from Philippines
Triumphant (Get 'Em) re-enters the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart at #67 (new peak so far) this week. It fell off the chart last week and debuted at #97 two weeks ago. That's the good news. As for the bad news, it falls off the Bubbling Under Chart (the 25-song extension to the main chart, Hot 100 Singles chart) this week. It debuted last week at #15. Bonus news: Mediabase airplay currently stands at roughly 4.6 million audience impressions. It's gaining slowly, very slowly. And 2 days into the music video world premiere, Triumphant (Get 'Em) (featuring Rick Ross & Meek Mill) rises from #865 to #437 on iTunes US. I hope airplay and downloads continue to rise as we await the first live tv performance/major promo of the song on September 5 before finally sealing the fate of this single.

Stacey (36,092) by Jenny from South Africa
Hi Stacey. I don't think you prefer her no-rapper music more because of when you became a fan. You say you became a fan in 1993 and so did I. And I love both, just MC and MC plus rappers. Which type of song I play just depends on my mood on any given day. Lol. I guess it's really just that everyone has their own unique preferences for different reasons. I personally think its possible for songs with rappers to be moving. Side Effects is an example. It was such a personal and moving song, even thought it had a rapper and it wasn't a ballad. I do also love her older stuff though. Emotions and Without You are 2 of my favourite songs ever.

Old fans vs. new fans (36,091) by Geezy from USA by way of NYC
In my honest opinion this debate like so many other debates on this message board is null and void we can all agree to disagree. As Stacey said we are all fans no matter new or old. Me personally I am a fan from the early days and find myself more bias to Mariah's older material but I can admit I enjoy some of her recent material as well. Hell I am never ashamed to admit I am a MC loyalist but I will be honest and voice my opinion when I don't like a song, an outfit, or a video ect. We all have an opinion about something and its nothing wrong with expressing it as long as its done in a respectful manner. Good day my Archives family.

Just a thought (36,090) by Sasha from Nomansland
I think the major problem of Mariah in her career is not her music but her image. That's why she never got the credibility she deserves and people or even fans get tired of her. Well that's just a thought. I may be wrong but that's what I feel. Triumphant is quite a nice song, I mean I heard worst from her these last years. Still waiting for something more mature though.

All of you are tripping/webmaster (36,089) by Nattalie from USA
All of you guys are tripping for real. I wish Mariah would do a fast one and you guys say she has decided to do smooth jazz and forget about making all these number ones and pop songs etc. Oh and webmaster, where are the shifty eyes?

New Mariah (36,088) by RadChad from United States
I can admit that intially I was disappointed with the hip/hop version of "Triumphant", but after a few listens, learning the lyrics, and getting into the melody. The song is really not bad at all. It's better than half the stuff on present radio for sure. I feel apart of people's distaste for the song stems from them insisting on not liking and/or not allowing themselves to give the song a fair chance based of it not being what they wanted from MC or was expecting from her this time around. So I challenge everyone to put their bias aside and give it a faIr chance.
I bet you'll like it more than before. On another note, Mariah was straight up stunningly banging in the video. Everything about her was on point. The video was a good look.

On the up side, video (36,087) by Stacey from USA
At least she isn't running around in a scantilly-clad bathing suit, lol. That concept was getting old. *sigh* This die-hard fan knows MC is capable of so much more than this. I was hoping for something more deeper than this after becoming a mom. The lyrics to the song deserve more than rappers going all over the place. Maybe it's just me. Maybe because I've been a fan since the early 90s I prefer her older material and those fans who joined up later in MC's career prefer the rappers. I'm old enough to remember the days when the music matched the deeper lyrics to give us that inspirational moment. Rappers don't give me that. MC's voice does. That's why I prefer the throwback remix to the original. I'm just not feeling this video. BTW: Some just need to stop using references like "casual fans", etc. Enough already. We all are fans of Mariah.

Counting chickens before they're hatched (36,085) by nikki from usa
Mariah's single is only available to hip hop stations, it's pretty premature to call it a flop considering it was just released this past week. Out of 1200 available stations, 77 of them decided to play it early which is why she made it to #97. She shouldn't have made anything at all since her impact day didn't start until the 14th. That's actually a good thing. She's currently at #53 on the chart. You'd think a journalist would have a clue as to what they're writing about, but then again journalism's gone downhill since the 90's. Urban is the only ones who have her single, she hasn't even sent anything to pop stations yet which will probably be an edited version of 1 of the dance remixes. The video is just released and with her album not coming out until next year, she can drag this out as long as she wants. I'd think if she were looking for a hit, she'd wouldn't allow the song to be downloaded already. She made this while her husband was sick and just lost Whitney. Clearly this song has far deeper value to her than just a stab at more numbers. This woman created hits for 20 years. If she wants another #1, she knows how to get it. Sometimes a message to be heard by the masses is more important than a hollow hit. I look forward to your live performance on the 5th, Mariah. Get 'em.

Yup, you are right, so far, this era is off to a terrible start. I know the timing wasn't right for her due to her pregnancy/just having had twins, but X-Factor would have been better, because it's much more hot right now than Idol (up there with The Voice). Mariah is so, so much better than the music she has been putting out as of late. With the exception of "Glitter" (a fantastic album that was ahead of its time, maybe her best vocal effort), I think many of her failing albums (MOAIA, E=MC2, CB) were due to lack of promotion, bad single choices, and overall incorrect management from her label and herself. I've said this many times before, but E=MC2 had the potential to be an epic era - she looked the best she had since the 90s, so many singles to choose from - but she fell off the face of the Earth, and just released the wrong songs. MOAIA came out too soon after, but with more promotion and better single choices, the album couldn't done a little better. I know she has surprised us in the past, but I think she's starting to rely a little too much on her name as a brand to sell records and attract viewers. If she keeps doing this, she is in for a very rude awakening (that is, assuming she even cares about remaining somewhat relevant). Ugh... hard time to be a Mariah fan.

Video/MOIA/new material (36,081) by Randy from USA
The video is great in my opinion. Especially if you keep in mind that labels don't shell out as much for them anymore as there is no MTV or VH1 anymore. I'm tired of people attacking MOIA. That album was awesome. Languishing can't be denied as one of her moments of genius that will never see radio. Yes, I knew Triumphant was going to be a flop as soon as I heard the title. I thought MC was going to put out one of her introspective ballads with the million dollar words and sparse instrumentation. She wasn't going for a hit. She was going to talk about motherhood and marriage. And then I heard this song. It's a blatent attempt to bring r&b/hip hop back but she needed something a little fresher and interesting. I know that she is going to put out something else. She would have to or the album won't get released. Labels don't release albums nowadays unless your song is getting played. Anyone think this album might be a rush job to get off Universal/Def Jam and follow LA Reid. She's done it before. Rainbow anyone?

New era so far is an epic failure (36,080) by HarryB from US
So far this new era has been an epic failure. The combination of Randy Jackson, a man devoid of any form of creativity and musical talent, plus MC being surrounded by people completely out of touch of pop music in general starting with his husband Nick Cannon, I'm afraid MC's pop music career is pretty much over. Hey, she's got Idol to look forward to. A show whose majority of viewers are out of work moms and fans of bad karaoke music. I'm so pissed MC's career has come to this. But whatever. It is what it is.

Triumphant vid and song (36,079) by Brad from USA
Hi lambs. I hope you all are treating yourselves and others well. I don't wish to beleaguer the issue, but I think the thing about "Triumphant" is that following all she went through with the birth of her twins, the serious health issues with Nick, the ever present drama with her own family and the death of a counterpart like Whitney, that Mariah would be approaching her song writing, singing and artistry from a new plateau. One that is both sage and wonderous of life and all it holds. I think many, like myself, felt that with this album she would reach new levels by presenting herself and her artistry in a way that more honestly represents the woman that she wishes to be for her new family and her fans. Perhaps one that is more raw, vulnerable and reflective of the times in which she lives but also one that continues to be aspirant and faithful. As a lead single, "Triumphant" doesn't meet that expectation because it feels more safe and rooted in parameters the depths of which she has already better explored and conquered. Perhaps we (and she) will find that new vision in future cuts from the forthcoming album. Be well. Love ya, appreciate ya and enjoy ya. Bye, bye.

I love the video (36,078) by Nattalie from USA
There is nothing wrong with the video. I think it's too cute. It's so her. This song makes me feel triumphant in so many ways. I just graduated last week and as I walked the stage, this was my theme song playing in my head lol. They told me to get, I got em.

Agree with Darnell (36,077) by S from England
She still has loads of singles to probably come, so people need to get of Mariah's case. It's like The Emancipation Of Mimi, the first single (It's like that) peaked at around #17 but We Belong Together obviously did the unthinkable. So lambs.need.to.chill.com.

The new video is a disappointment (36,076) by Stella from Greece
Let me start by saying that I am, have been and always will be a huge fan of Mariah. However, I find her recent choices very disappointing. I loved TEOM and EMC2, but didn't like Memoirs or the AA remix album. I felt like there was nothing sonically fresh or vocally satisfying about that album. Her second Christmas album was a welcome return to form, but it was just a Christmas album. This new era had me curious and excited about Mariah's new offerings, I hoped she would come up with something fresh. Until Triumphant came out and left a sour taste in my mouth. The song bears a whole lot of rap and minimal Mariah vocal. Then Mariah, wisely, released those fabulous dance remixes where she was finally singing her behind off and my faith in this new era was somewhat restored. But now she released this video. I'm sorry, she really looks sexy and vibrant, but really there's no progress. It looks no different from a lot of her past videos and visually she could have done so much more considering the theme. How can such an unispired mv benefit the single, which is sadly already not shooting up the charts? Frankly, I feel like Mariah is afraid of progress, new creative ideas and team. You only have to look at her current team: her choreographer is her best friend, her husband directs her videos, her longtime musical director R. Jackson is her manager, she constantly works with J. Dupri (a producer way past his prime). I wish she would try something fresh next, but I'm not hopeful.

The new era (36,075) by darnell from United States
What is it with people being so critical of Triumphant? If you don't like the song or video, you don't have to keep posting the same comments. It's annoying. Mariah has till March to get everything right, so everyone should calm down, it's just 1 song not the entire album.

oh triumphant (36,074) by Ali from USA
I can't, I just can't with this song or the video. Lol. I love you Mimi, but let us go back to the drawing board. Let's change the promo pics for the album, the sound and get in the lab with some different peeps, though I do love your JD collabs. Also, I love Mariah in all her divadom. I usually find it cute and funny, but some of the shots in this video looked awkward.

Rod video references (36,073) by RibbonB from USA
Lol I got all those references and thought how cute. I also got a Glitter reference with her singing in the ring, looked very much like the closing song to Glitter and I loved all the falling glitter and lights. Many areas of the video were visually stunning. I'm glad that many, many fans are loving this video, at least on Twitter. It's fun and it's Mariah.

Lyric (36,072) by John from USA
I agree with everything you said. I will always be a fan of Mariah's voice, but her artistic decisions have been getting worse over the years. While I'll be happy to see her on TV, I never liked the idea of her joining American Idol. Like you said, it really speaks to her insecurity about being able to remain relevant. And I think her own craving for relevancy is leading her to work with the wrong people and create the wrong type of music. I don't care that artists "make the music they want to make" - without the fans, they are nothing more than karaoke singers. It should be possible for artists to be able to find a balance of making the music they want while still pleasing their fans and releasing the right singles. As I said again, I will always be a fan of her voice, and will welcome her back if she starts doing what I (and I believe many of her fans) really want. But I haven't been excited for a new era since right before E=MC2, and definitely ain't holding my breath for this upcoming era.

Triumphant (Get 'Em) Video (36,071) by Rod from Philippines
I enjoyed watching the music video. Mariah looked hotter than ever! It's your typical Mariah video set in a boxing ring with Meek Mill as the prizefighter, Rick Ross as the promoter and Mariah playing 3 roles - the glamorous crowd member, the ring girl and the singer with the signature hand movements hitting the high notes as gold butterfly-shaped confetti rains down upon her. The storyline is simple and bordering to literal (and corny, for some) but fitting for the message of the song. What I loved about the music video though is the references to her previous music videos - Honey, Get Your Number, Never Too Far with the yellow/gold midriff, gold tight fitting dresses and light yellow/gold sequined gown she wore respectively; Shake It Off with the glittering wall and the girly poses; It's Like That and Obsessed with the straight and wavy (with hair extensions!) hairstyles; and that shocked facial expression she had on Obsessed and most importantly, the eras they represent - Butterfly, Glitter, The Emancipation Of Mimi and Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel. They were the lowest, highest and most intimate and personal points of her life and career. They remind us all how she emerged triumphantly through the challenges. And that, for me, is the underlying visual message of the music video.
