Expectations vs reality (100,523) by T from USA
I think what we're all struggling with is what we expect and what we get. And lots of that has to do with Mariah herself. I mean, in many of those Christmas interviews just six months ago she would say that she has her E=MC2 trainer Patricia back living with her. I know I know, that doesn't mean anything but Mariah must know the link the fans will make. The last time she worked with Patricia was right before Touch My Body. It's natural to assume that she would get back into shape with that comment. Then there's all the talk about the voice and being so inspired. Linking her time out of the spotlight like the time she took to write and record Butterfly. Now we here there's no album in sight. We expect Mariah to have a Beyonce career, in reality we are getting something like Anna Nicole Smith.

Thank you for your service. Too funny. But yeah, the speech I heard sounded lime 8 minutes of snippets which seemed very well received by her peers. She was acting over the top, but that's been the norm for a while. It's pretty much her shtick.

I don't know if I'd call suffering from anxiety and depression doing service, but to each their own, lol. As with any person, famous or not, I wish everyone the best. I listen to Mariah's music daily.

I've had nights where I was so glad the sun came up. I've lived through mental illness personally. With my daughter I saw the signs and got her help. What's Mariah's excuse? There is none, especially with the resources she has at her disposal.

I'm not bashing her, crucifying MC for expressing the opinion that she bears responsibility. Geez. And seriously? Blame her for doing it to herself after her hypothetical death? I'll just say this: who shoved drugs down Whitney's throat? At some point you run out of excuses and need to pick up the mirror. Tragically some never do, and it's heartbreaking. All lives are precious to me.

P.S. I've been pretty fair to Mariah over the years so back it up a bit. Ok? Peace.

Exactly. Not popular with some goats here, but the general public and media seemed to have enjoyed it (also see the YouTube likes and comments). Some people here will never be satisfied, which is their prerogative, but let us Lambs celebrate the well earned accomplishment and keep things moving.

What if that's just Mariah? (100,514) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I love that we've been blessed with so many educated mental health illness experts on this form! Thank you for your service and insight. What if this is just Mariah? What if this is just Mariah being her true self that she continues to try and express to this day? The first time I ever saw Mariah simply, normal, free and authentically be herself was her 1999 Billboards Music Award speech. That speech was fire (after seeing Mariah do the humble basic Celine and Barbra approach for many years on award shows). I know many see Mariah's true self as the groomed women from 1988-1996. That grooming may have resulted in what many see has her golden years, the vocal goddess years. I just want to leave more room and appreciation for that 1999 Billboard Mariah, that GLADD Award Mariah, that [woman] who sang at the Grammy's in February 2006. That women who gave no [...] in 2017 to make it clear on national live television she was being made a fool in real time in that moment (uhhum Stella); and the next year, 2018, stood on that same exact stage and said [...], and blew the Times Square roof off. Let's celebrate when Mariah is Mariah, she's allowed to relax and enjoy herself and go off script as most of us do.

Side note: Mariah's speech is getting very positive media response, and the Song Writers Hall of Fame post they did about Mariah received over 27,000 like vs. Pherell or Lil' Nas (less than five hundred).

I think that Mariah should forget about selling records and chasing trends. She should concentrate on creating great music, period. I too have thought she has lost her muse when songs like "Save the Day" and "Infinity" came out. She doesn't have anything to prove anymore, but great music is great music.

I don't mind her taking her time to create something with quality. While Caution was critically acclaimed, she knew something was missing. She talked about her voice not being in good shape and she also stated she should've recorded a few more tracks.

How about you stop assuming that Mariah had a manic episode when you don't have verifiable evidence about it, pure speculation, hearsay. You immediately assumed she was having a manic episode when manic episodes don't just work like a switch. The fact that Mariah is bipolar is one thing, but whatever weird situations happen around her don't necessarily have anything to do with this disorder.

Let's see how many cards a lamb can pull out their behind to justify Mariah: "The Bipolar Card", "The Race Card", "The Gender Card", "The Defective Earpiece Card", "The Nodules Card", "The Age Card" and last but not least "The Stella Card".

You can pray all you want for Mariah, that won't take away her bottle or stop her splashes, she has to take responsibility and do something about it. She knows what alcohol does to her and her voice, she stopped drinking it when she was pregnant, didn't she? She knows cigarettes are bad for her voice, she avoids anybody around her when they're smoking, doesn't she? She knows her meds and alcohol don't go hand in hand, I'm pretty sure her top notch doctors have told her about it, yet she decides to do it. The worst thing that could happen to a human being is to be surrounded by a bunch of sycophants and ass kissers. I'm pretty sure if they saw Mariah about to jump down a window, they would say, yas queen, spread your wings and fly to death.

Do you think? (100,507) by Bobby A from United States
Has MC lost her drive to be a recording artist? It is almost like she is afraid to release another album because of what would be said in the media if it fails commercially. I feel MC could not take another album that is a commercial failure. In my opinion, she doesn't have the drive anymore to promote and support an album with an extensive promotional schedule and world tour. The rest of this year and 2023 is going to be interesting to see what she releases.

I think it's becoming apparent why Tommy controlled her so heavily. He didn't do it with Thalia. Of course their personalities clashed. But he had to go overboard to reign her in unfortunately. As one gets older their mental health issues get worse as well. She was probably a lot more manageable in her twenties. We were fortunate to get the work she did all those years because I don't see a lot coming out in the future. I mean, if she was completely healthy I'm sure we would've gotten at least an album every two years all through this decade. That's just who she is, a hard worker. But there is a lot stopping her from completing anything now. I still wish she would just stick to her plans and release something, whether it be SUD, or BL or even her version of Where Are You Christmas.

So, in the same breath as saying I shouldn't be critical of Mariah because of her mental health issues, you then ask me what is my excuse? Quite hypocritical, and laughable at the same time. Several people have already made the point. She needs to get herself together. This isn't new. She's been diagnosed since 2001. It's such a huge moment for her. I just think people felt let down. With all that being said, I do take your point over mental health. And about perhaps being more respectful. Something we could all learn by the looks of it.

Randy. I'm happy that you were strong enough to get yourself through alcoholism and mental illness. Not everyone is that strong. When you were at your very bottom of your addiction and your illness, would it have helped having a bunch of people judge you and tell you that you know better. Or would someone with a kind and open heart offering to pray for you and giving you words of motivation and encouragement a better solution. Would it had helped if everyone gave up on you because "you knew better?" It's obvious that you surround yourself with negative people and your heartless post is proof of that. A "friend" gleefully sending you a video of someone in a very bad place sounds like toxic energy I would never have around me in this day in age. I protect my peace. Had I been as petty and childish as that Beyoncé fan, I would have sent all of Billboards top ten listings since 2006 because she's been missing the list since her sophomore album. Someone put her on the back of a milk carton. And to bring up who you know is still on here, but playing dumb to cover for him. No one's convinced. I would never align myself with someone who asks the poster that gave Mariah his grandmothers diamond necklace for their e-mail only to reveal a private interaction between them on this board when it's obvious that kid had mental health issues just to embarrass him and for likes. That's gotta be a new kind of low. Nope, I'm not interested in kicking anyone when their [sic] down. And I refuse to align myself with toxic people. I refuse to go backwards and surround myself with people who live on a low frequency and find joy seeing others in a low point in their life.

Stacey. When I look in the mirror I look great love. So your read fell flat. More importantly, I have compassion inside seeing someone on a stage who is obviously in a very bad place. The last time she had gained this much weight, disheveled, and displayed a mixture of alcohol and pills was that stupid tour she had to do since MIAM flopped so that the record company could recoup the money they invested in financing that project. I was positive we were going to lose her then. Then again during her Stella years. I don't put this lady on a pedestal nor do I crucify her poor choices. I pray for her. That God helps her find the strength that she has written about from her faith to pull through, because, one day, she will succumb to her vices, and not be with us anymore. I would hate to see that happen to someone whose lyrics brought so much joy and strength to get me through some dark times. Times I'm glad I spent dealing with alone without judgement from the righteous. God bless you.

Edward really? Now a medical diagnosis is an excuse. How about praying for her? How about saying, something is seriously wrong here. How about alcoholism and mixing it with meds is a recipe for disaster. How about, she's backsliding into dangerous territory when she was managed by Crustella. Every grown adult knows better. Yet, we lose people everyday to alcoholism, mental illness, and mixing pills with alcohol. I pray that Mariah gets clean. That she goes to rehab and goes back to her Bible studies and stays true to what she learned when she took her intensive courses and God made the impossible happen and blessed her with a second run at the top in 2005. Something is not right. Instead of judging her, I'm going to pray for her. I don't know her at all and it's obvious she is far from the watered down image Sony sold us. I would hate to wake up tomorrow reading that the lady whose music brought me so much joy died succumbing to addiction. Michael, Whitney, Prince. It's sad that losing "stars" to their addiction is so common. If I was in the throws of addiction. I would hate to have any judgmental people around. Thank God I have a family firm in the faith that would use all their spiritual armor to pray to God that I pull out of it.

Re: Songwriters speech (100,491) (100,500) by 123 from USA
I had a very close family member with mental health issues. She went back and forth for years taking her meds. It was a horrible battle and we had to get involved many times. Not everyone is strong enough to do it on their own. Many people relapse. Many people don't make it. It's painful to see her like that. But y'all crucify the lady. She's 50, way past her prime and is still among us. Michael, Prince, and Whitney all died succumbing to their substance abuse. If the same happens to her, you all going to come here and bash her, saying she deserves it. I don't hear any of their fans bashing them for their life choices or their flaws. These artists are human, not God. Lambs are the only ones critical of this lady, wishing for comebacks that are not going to happen. Instead of bashing her, why not pray for her. All I see is judgement. "She has all this money, all these resources." Rich people are some of the saddest people in the world. Money doesn't solve everything, but God can. Not a single prayer for this lady. If she passes an untimely death, please keep your crocodile tears. God, not money, is the answer. Matthew 7:1 "Do not judge, or you will be judged." Matthew 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things shall be added on to you."

We're all entitled to our opinions and here is mine: she looked happy, nervous and truly touched by the award, which honored a lifetime of her work. It was well deserved, and we will never know what it is like to be honored for baring your soul, essentially wearing your heart on your sleeve for the public to see and, ultimately to welcome and adore. So I say bravo. We (your fans) love you, are proud of you and are so happy you brought all of us so much joy through the years, but most of all we are happy for you. Congratulations!

Re: Songwriters speech (100,491) (100,498) by Stacey from USA
Agreed. My now 13 year old daughter started exhibiting anxiety behaviors a year ago. She scratched up her legs. I knew given my family history that she needed help. She's been on a medication for six months and her scars are healing. I got her help. Why can't Mariah do the same?

Some of you need to be real careful who you call heartless or a troll simply because you don't like what we are saying. Mariah is an adult. She should know better than to mix meds with alcohol, especially mental illness meds. Stop making excuses. At some point you will run out of excuses. The only thing left will be the mirror you look at.
