MC's voice is back. I loved her solo version of Big Energy. She really sounded like she will make us proud in 8 days.

Charmbracelet - 20 years (101,741)
by Nick G from Germany

[I] have a love-hate relationship with [Chambraclet]. As an album bad to average at best. But it was the first album after [Glitter] that made me a Mariah fan. There are many irrelevant songs on the normal version. The album is the beginning of the eternal self-copying of itself and the attempt to make Butterfly new. Only through TEOM came a fresh wind. I prefer the bonus tracks. The ideal track list looks like this: 1. Miss U 2. Boy Street Remix 3. There goes my heart 4. Lullyby 5. You had your chance 6. Got a Thing for U 7. I know what you want 8. Clown 9. My Saving Grace 10. Through the Rain Then it would be a perfect RnB album.

For me I did not like this era at all and it's an amalgamation of a lot of factors, yes lyrically the album was mature and really strong but the vocals were irritating to listen to and quite honestly off-putting and I still really feel this way up until today. Whatever vocal issues she had be masking was in full display here and one could not ignore it – her belts were strained and she was suffocating here (literally guys), there isn't any so to speak "real voice" here, her resonance is non existent and everything is "shouty" when she tries to go for it. I was so disappointed and irritated as a die hard "lamby". The only outstanding song on this record is "Through The Rain" (this song is very special and actually a classic in my opinion and I would say one of her signature songs), and maybe "My Saving Grace". Every other song here is a muddled whispery mess have you heard the full 5 minute version of "You Got Me"? Ugh). The album is also poorly produced instrumental and especially vocally, there does not seem to be any reverb on her vocals and if there, very sparse. I also feel the album is boring. Phew thank God for "The Emancipation of Mariah Carey".

I remember a lot about that era. I couldn't believe how beautiful Through The Rain was and the video is stunning. She was still doing lipping climaxes to the records, but she was on every show, despite not having a hit single. The View, Oprah, Matt Lauer interviewed her, MTV gave her a special. I didn't care for a lot of the album and at the time, I remember one reviewer stating that she did so many different things on the album that it was like mixing watercolors only to end up with a puddle of brown. I remember Lyor Cohen saying that she brought class to DefJam. It was a time where MC garnered respect because of her earlier hits that weren't as far away, but Glitter wasn't the nail in the coffin. Charmbracelet was the first and last time I would pay to see MC live. She lipped most of it. I was in full fan mode that night with butterfly and rainbow stickers all up and down my arm. It definitely is a moment. Through The Rain is the only way I make it to work many days. I still play Lullaby and Subtle Invitation. The rest of it is largely forgotten. But the era isn't.

by Chicago Lamb from USA

These days, artists are rarely in the studio at the same time to lay their vocal tracks. For example Mariah and Whitney did their tracks separately then met in the studio for the video promo. However music videos require the artist to be assembled in the same room. I'm sure there have been instances where artists have been "green screened" in.

No, I don't think so because I purchased the digital tracks from the special at FYE's Mix and Burn. And Oh Santa was not an option to select to create my CD. I really think the vocals were recorded separately piecing the vocals together to film the video. Just my thoughts.

Yes, the 90ies were too good to be true. But they were. Luckily the memories will stay forever. 80ies and 90ies, that feeling that was going on, maybe youngsters will never understand. Every "outdated" movie and music from that time is a thousand times better than most of the trash today. It was original, with heart and soul and really fun to have witnessed it.

by BFF from United States

I remember thinking that Mariah looked great, happy and healthy during 2003, especially during the tour. I found the album itself pretty underwhelming because I felt Mariah's singing on it was too restrained. The production and lyrics on most of the songs were really good, but I couldn't understand why Mariah did not let loose on every song the way she did on "Bringin' on the Heartbreak". I remember the Rolling Stone review of the album commenting that the Def Leppard cover was the best moment on the album and kind of agreeing with that.

Billboard 2022 year end charts (101,724)
by Mariahsbaby from usa
| |
|

1. Mariah Carey: Top artist: #75, Global 200 artist: #69 2. AIWFCIY: Hot 100: #65, Global 200 #88, steaming songs: #38, digital song sales: #63 3. Merry Christmas: Billboard 200: #176, top R&B/Hiphop albums: #57, catalog albums: #42 4. Fantasy: R&B digital song sales: #4 30+ years in industry and still making history. The remix ranked #3 on Billboards Year-End Digital Song Sales Chart. If it weren't for radio, she would perform as good as she did around the world. Big Energy Remix was definitely one of the songs of the summer.

Congratulations to Mariah for selling over 3.9m units in the UK, and All I Want is now tying for the longest charting song, ironically with "Fairytale Of New York", for being #1 on Billboards Holiday 100 for a whole year, 37 consecutive weeks since 2015. She really dominated the summer with her remix and she may earn next week earn another week back at #1 already. Mariah is truly the queen of music.
Btw regarding the whole trademark thing, Nikki was right, members of the group should do their own research instead of spewing falsity. Look up case.
