VH1 Divas 2000 (101,690)
by Billy from Greece

Although no one can know for sure what really happened, it would be better if those who post "sources" check their credibility first. To have Mariah in 2000 say something along the lines of "someone needs to tell that bitch she works for my husband" sounds not only farfetched but downright ridiculous. First of all, Mariah was already divorced from Tommy for two years by that point. I don't care if those who wrote this article worked in the production of the show. Each one has their own point of view and their own filtered style when documenting an event. And clearly, by inserting false information makes their claim even less valid.

Article: Drama with Donna Summer (101,687)
by BFF from United States

Unfortunately, that kind of behavior tracks. If true, Mariah had a lot of nerve to come at Donna Summer like that. On a more positive note, Donna Summer sounded great singing "Reflections" on that show. Too bad she got pushed out of the Supremes medley portion, though she probably would have out sang both Mariah and Diana.

I heard this story before, but what I heard on another blog like site from someone who said they worked at the Divas 2000 show was that Donna had a relatively nice dressing room, but it was Mariah who had a fit when she found out Donna's dressing room was nicer than hers. Donna was the first person Diana personally asked to be on the tribute show to Diana, so it's possible she got first choice of dressing rooms. The site said Donna graciously gave up the room to Mariah. Here's the source.

I know, right? I love Irene Cara and think it's unfortunate she never had any big hit albums. Most of her musical success came with songs she recorded for soundtracks.

Hers was one of the most clear voices I had ever heard growing up and I fell in love with her immediately. It's unfortunate that she did not get bigger than she should have, but the music she released would always speak. Rest in peace songbird. What a shock. What is it with death everywhere this year?

Article: Mariah Carey slammed for lip-syncing (101,682)

1. They are haters, not "fans". 2. All performances are always lip synced for this parade. 3. And they obviously don't mention that she sang live perfectly the following New Year's Eve in record breaking subzero temperatures.

Merry Christmas to All (101,681)
by Mariahsbaby from usa

I can't wait for the MSG shows. It will be a packed house full of people who love and adore her. It's going to be an amazing moment the best part is the tv special, Two shows and then show the best moments on tv. Not many know Mariah sang 2-3 times for Idol medley, people thought she lipped and she straight up killed her songs. Probably my fave tv performance ever. Jennifer Hudson already teased a special moment with Ari and Mariah on her new hit talk show. Mariah added to the fuel by sharing her surprises for her new shows when it comes to guests.
Now lets adress the lies in this board. [censored] We all know the exact lines she lips on every song and lets not act as if she doesn't sing 95% of everything.
I honestly think Mariah living her best life, creating unforgettable moments with her children and slowly but surely getting her props in the industry is making so many here mad. She aged well. [censored]

Randy, I have no idea what you're talking about. Mariah lip syncs? That absolutely never happens. She's just performing the "album version" like she did with "We Belong Together" on NYE 2016. I thought everyone loved the album version? Why would you ever expect Mariah to sing live any way? The cold outdoor air hurts her vocal cords and she can't hear herself with the crowds. As a medical expert in the field of vocal chord trauma, I recommend that Mariah complete all performances from home via Zoom call in a room full of humidifiers with a full team of sound engineers. We must also allow for 30 minute breaks every two songs for tea, makeup and wardrobe changes.

by Bobby A from United States

We all would like to know what really ruined MC's voice. It just seems like after Glitter, her voice started deteriorating with every album especially TEOM. I think it was all heavy belting during her tours from 1993-1996. MC wanting to be a perfectionist and the need to prove herself to others caused major damage to her voice. Then during the recording of the Butterfly album, we got the breathiness singing that we never got before. Her voice was beyond repair as evident on Memoirs and MIAM. It is going to be interested how much she uses a backing track and lip syncs during the Merry Christmas To All concert dates. Maybe MC will prove us all wrong starting December 13th.

Who'd have thought MC would lip sync. Colour me stunned. You're looking at $150-200 for one ticket to the Christmas concert. Plus travel and hotel if you're not based in New York. If you want to pay that much to watch her lip sync, get her hair and make up fixed on stage, bemoan the lighting, stick a finger in her ear, ramble on about her ensemble, drink champagne, and bark out an off key "EH" every so often, that's your prerogative.
Thank God I saw her in 1996 on the Daydream tour when she was actually a competent and capable singer.

"Thank God I saw her in 1996 on the Daydream tour when she was actually a competent and capable singer." That time was simlpy magic on stage. Almost unreal. There's a reason 95 and 96 was Mariah mania around the world. I remember she had one concert in Germany, it was immediately sold out. If I had a time machine, I would choose that date to be part of the audience. You are really lucky to have witnessed her live during her Daydream tour.

Macy's parade (101,675)
by Brad from USA

To me, the really weird thing was the CBS coverage. They showed no performers, not even Mariah who is to have a special on their station next month. Also, not for nothing, when Gloria Estefan had her number, the music and lyrics were going and she wasn't even freaking moving her mouth at all in any way, shape or form. I'm not sure I would have been moving around too much in such a dress on a moving platform. Just saying. I thought the exuberance in her face was nice to see. Everyone knows these things are lip synced. For all performers. And no, she wasn't making millions at this performance. Nope.

So what you're basically saying is, for just 4 minutes out of a 3 hour production, they need to get a sound engineer and mixer, have a live band (because a pre-recorded musical track just would add legitimacy) and all the other logistics that goes into a truly live performance. Especially when every other single performance is lip-sync, even the Macy's choir? I'm not saying she would have killed it if it were live, but at least be fair and just when throwing out all of these statements.

Can I just say this. Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Ciara, JLo, Paula Abdul can lip sync without criticism. Mariah Carey who is considered one of the best vocalist of all time cannot. Patti Labelle is 99 years old. She woulda sang. I know. I know. It was outdoors, her ear monitors weren't working, it was air conditioning outside, she has nodules, her humidifiers weren't working in her sleep chamber, her background singers were too loud. The funny thing is... her lip syncing wasn't a surprise to me. The mic is a prop at this point. But y'all really excited about her Christmas concerts? It will be the best cut and paste lip sync performance in history. Kinda like the 1996 Grammys.

It would be nice if people who talked actually had a clue what they were talking about. Trademarks are for products and goods, not censorship. Literally, nothing would change on how anyone used the phrase. None of these women's lives would've changed. Everything would continue as it always has. Mariah didn't "lose" anything, in fact, she generously stepped aside. The objection wasn't qualifying. All Mariah had to do was respond and the trademark was hers. She chose to remain quiet. After the 3 month period lapsed the case is closed. Mariah literally gave up a name for a merch line for no other reason than someone had a problem with it and she's painted as a villain while her quote unquote fans talk about checking her morals.
A trademark isn't a copyright. Some folks deserve some humble pie themselves. I find it interesting how many hear MC get dissed by ignorant haters and immediately take their side without question. Trademarks are for products only. It doesn't give her a "monopoly" on the holiday season. It's a product line. It doesn't change how anyone uses the expression. It only prevents others from selling other products under the phrase. It's not that deep or encompassing.
There is no current trademark on any of these things which gives Carey the right to use it. All she had to do was respond. She actually stepped aside and let the 3 month time limit lapse. She didn't "lose", there was no "battle", and she was denied for simply not bothering to respond. She let it go and she didn't have to. She's literally been called, "the Queen of Christmas" by every publication and it's uncle for the past decade. These ignorant stories do make her look bad and many of you pile on top. MC did something kind and you helped paint her as a villain.
