Article: Mariah Carey texts Shawn Mendes "Happy Thanksgiving" (99,935)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|

It is weird that she refers to her nephew as her cousin here and other times as her brother. I know Mimi likes to make up things lime her anniversaries, but the cousin thing is odd.

Mariah's birth year (99,931)

I just noticed Wikipedia only list 1969 as Mariah's birth year. Is it confirmed now then, that she is soon to be 53 years old?

Do I smell a Shawn Mendes collaboration? Has to be the reason why Mimi has Shawn's phone number?

I would definitely buy a butterfly hoodie. I wish she would release her butterfly symbol as a high quality key chain on her website.

Cool. I told everybody on this board she is listening. I can only assume that the release of the Fantasy merchandise is because Fantasy is still in the top 10 on the iTunes R&B chart. What can I ask MC for tonight on Twitter? Butterfly album hoodie for September? Lol.

I love the new vintage Fantasy Tee. Also, I find it funny a few months back I posted a random comment about Mariah collaborating with a home store like Kravitz is doing with CB2 and she now has the new fantasy throw pillow lol.

Paula Abdul also did it (albeit with an animated video) in 1989 with Opposites Attract, which reached number 1. How can we forget Ms. Abdul dancing with a cat?
I think Mariah's became the blueprint for many others because of her already established influence on pop, how deeply contrasted she and ODB were, the success of the song, and the timing of release.
Fantasy remains one of my favorites to this day and I still love when I hear DJs play it. A timeless crowd pleaser.

Right. So your response got me thinking again. Would a Lil Wayne feature be too much for MC standards for a comeback single? I love his bars on his features. It could be a playful song showcasing MC's savage side and Lil Wayne's playboy side.

And a lot of people consider Chaka Khan's I Feel For You the first rap/sung collaboration. In the 1980s. Now what made Fantasy so groundbreaking was that MC was a pop diva that added a gutter rapper. So it was too extremes versus a Mary J or a Chaka Khan collabo which would have been an R&B plus rapper combination.

Re: Question (99,912) (99,913)

Actually, Mary J. did it in 1992 with a bunch of remixes from What's The 411, including Notorious BIG very first appearance on a single with "Real Love". Then in 1994, Madonna did it with a song called "I'd Rather Be Your Lover", initially featuring Tupac but then scratched and put on her "Bedtime Stories" album with Me'Shell NdegeOcello instead. So that part about Mariah being the first to add hip hop artists into a song duet genre always confused me.

I don't believe she was the very first, but she was definitely the first artist with a large following and the first "mainstream" artist to adopt this style with the Fantasy remix. Since then, as we know, every Tom Dick and Harry has had a guest rapper on their singles.
