Re: We Belong Together 2022 (97,688) (97,693) by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago
You meant the level of success of WBT right? Because she has tried to recreate that too many times over. She should go for something totally new, fresh and that would surprise and make people talk, while still keeping that "Mimi" sound and vocals. Just my 2 cents.

Dream (97,692) by Lafa from Sweden
Dream: Mariah's entire catalogue is released acapella for public for remixing. It would be an era of nothing else than art. Just look what We BeLamb Together on YouTube did for an album. Nice try woman, but there's little out go gasp for in terms of this. Sadly.

Re: Recounting the first bought album experience (97,684) (97,691) by Horacio from United States
The first album I heard was Butterfly because it was part of my father’s massive CD collection; I was 13 years old. It was mid-1999. Second time I had heard of Mariah (I was an immigrant from a non-English speaking country).

My first CD that I purchased from MC was #1s. I was astonished that this woman had so many no. 1 hits. I was hooked. I purchased Rainbow in November 1999, and from then on worked my way backwards

Daydream > Music Box > MTV > Emotions > Mariah Carey. I can’t recall when exactly I purchased Merry Christmas, but I know for sure I already owned it by December 2000.

Re: Mariah "Care One Child" (97,682) (97,690) by Edward from USA
"One Child" was also an instant favorite for me. Her writing on it was reminiscence of her old school stuff. It was evident she was working with a real musician.

Re: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (97,686) (97,689) by T from USA
I agree with JD. I think that ship has sailed, unless it's one track that is undeniably good, the rest should be left off the album. Does anyone know why Mariah has never been in the studio with Dallas Austin? He seems like the cooler producer version of JD. His ties with LA Reid and the fact that he's done incredible work with TCL, Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Janet make me think he would be right up her alley. He's also from her 90's generation. The only thing I can think of is that maybe when he was at the height of producing Mariah's husband didn't want her in the studio with him (although she did have JD in 1995). On a side note, Mariah's second husband starred in a movie based on Dallas Austin's life, Drumline.

We Belong Together 2022 (97,688) by Bobby A from United States
I am sitting here thinking who could collaborate with MC this year and give her WBT 2022. I could only think of two songwriters who would nail it. Jazmine Sullivan and Finneas are the only two songwriters. I hope that she is trying to recreate the magic that TEOM gave her but with a more current sound.

Imagine if she was finally recording a studio version of Just Be Good to Me. They did produce it originally.

Re: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (97,685) (97,686) by Leo from LAMBville
I think it is exciting for Mariah to be working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis again, however I do hope MC16 goes in multiple directions or has sequencing like "Butterfly" did.

I personally hope we don't get an entire album of JD and Mariah "Y'all know what this is", I love Jermaine but his gimmick is old and really tired of hearing how he doesn't get his flowers. He is an amazing writer/producer but he will never have the level of fame he feels he deserves. Him deserving it or not is not the statement; his belief on how people should see him is what low key annoys me. Not to start a debate over how well they work together we already know that; just my personal opinion.

Here are the songs Mariah has worked with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis:
Against All Odds
Bliss
Can't Take That Away
I Didn't Mean to Turn You On
Never To Far
Petals
Reflections
Thank God I Found You
Through The Rain
Twister
Want You
Yours

Did I miss any?

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (97,685) by Bobby A from United States
The fact that MC has been in the studio with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis gives clue to the type of sound she is going for with MC16.

I kinda went backwards too. First got Music Box then the debut and Unplugged. Then got Emotions.

That's funny how you thought that "I'll Be There" was on "Emotions" because I thought that "Emotions" was her first album because my father would play the "Emotions" album and the debut album back to back on car rides, and always in that order of playing the "Emotions" album first. So in my mind, I thought "Emotions" came out first lmao.

Yeah I saw it, Mariah is also working with Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis again, for those of you who don't know, they worked with Mariah on the amazing Yours song.

And she will be celebrating her anniversary Saturday with him on his live, and she invited all of her lambs. Keyword: Lambs.

My first was her debut album in 1990 on CD. The next one was the EP in 1992. I bought Emotions after that and was convinced that I'll Be There was on that album. I remember that I ordered the album in a music club (Scandinavian Music Club). It's like a million years ago.

Re: Recounting the first bought album experience (97,673) (97,677) by Dav from Ireland
Mine was Butterfly! As a repressed young gay growing up in Ireland, I had to hide my musical tastes as well as everything else for fear of being seen. I first became aware of Mariah when I'll Be There was played everywhere in 1992 (aged 11). In 1993 I managed to get my hands on a friends Music Box cassette and copied it onto a blank tape, which I listened to every night on my Walkman and imagined my life when I would be older. Daydream came out and I burred it onto the other side of my blank tape. 90-minute tape worked perfectly. I listened to them back-to-back, night after night for years. I remember being in the car and hearing Butterfly on the radio, it was a metaphysical experience. That songs still chills me. I went into the CD store and bought the single. (I didn't get the single album system at that point.) Next My All was everywhere, and I went to buy the single and saw the album. Life changing. Mariah comforted me in those lonely times, she knew isolation and how it felt to be outside. Luckily Ireland is a very different place now, much kinder and accepting. I think Mariah has found a kinder life too and is more accepting of herself.

Mariah on DNice Instagram Live (97,676) by The Real Deal from USA
Did anybody catch Mariah on DNice's Instagram live over the weekend? I caught a few minutes of it. She was talking about how they were going to make "Save The Day" t-shirts to support DNice in regard to his Club Quarantine, but then JD never ended up making the shirts lol. DNice said it looked like she was in the recording studio during the live and she said "We can't reveal such things." Haha. She had the same look as when she posted the photo of her in the Biggie Smalls t-shirt and it was in the same studio room as well.

Bonnie Tyler's disbelief at Mariah Carey's comment (97,675) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Nice article. I love Bonnie Tyler. A humble star and really sweet. Her 80ies hits are still great to listen to. That she makes her hair and make-up by herself makes her even more sweet. Mariah and Bonnie together on a plane, really cool.

Mine was Music Box. I was vacuuming in my family room. I had my back to the TV as VH1 (you know when VH1 and MTV actually played videos) started to air Hero. Seriously this experience is something out of a TV show. I turn around slowly and thought what is that voice? Who is that? The rest is history.

Re: Recounting the first bought album experience (97,660) (97,668) by Bill from the UK
Great story and idea. So here's my tale. Picture it: I was 10 and my brother used to religiously watch the MTV Chart Countdown every week. We had just got Sky TV and it was an absolute novelty to have more than 4 TV channels haha. I remember wandering into the living room in the summer of 1993. Sunlight was beaming through the patio windows, my brother was lying on the floor in front of the TV, head cupped in his hands, watching the TV. I had wandered in because I heard this voice. Y'all know where I'm going with this. Up until then, the only female singers I was aware of was Euro Dance acts, and Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Dreamlover was playing, and it was love at first sight. Her voice, her look, the song. That was it.

I remember seeing the Dreamlover cassette single in a local record shop but didn't have the 99p (lol) to buy it. Hero then started to get aired and I was just as in love with that song. I remember then seeing Music Box in the store and I would go in after school whenever I could and just gaze at the picture and try to memorise the tracklisting. The album seemed so classy when compared to 2 Unlimited and Ace of Base lol.

Without You then appeared in early 1994 and it was the cassette single was the first Mariah item I ever got. I remember loving the sepia cover and how beautiful she looked, and also being floored by Never Forget You.

I saved and saved my pocket money until I had the £7.99 to buy the cassette album. At the time, my room was being redecorated, so I was in a sleeping bag in my brother's room. I remember having a little kids torch under the cover at night as I listened to the album over and over on my Walkman. I thought it was her first and only album until I saw the page in the booklet advertising her other albums. I was in Woolworths and looked at the CDs and saw Emotions and Unplugged. For my Birthday I asked for those on cassette and was delighted when I got them.

I could go on for hours about my early Mariah time. Everything was such a new discovery and such a joy. What a time to be alive.
