Re: Favorite Mariah album? (97,319) (97,328) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Oh Stacey, your kids must go loopy if you have that album on repeat. I love Daydream. But I cannot forgive Mariah for leaving One Night off of that record. It's so absolutely insane. The same goes for All I Live For and Here We Go Around Again and Cool On You and Mesmerized and Loverboy Firecracker Original and Out Here On My Own. Like most Mariah albums there are lesser favoured tracks and a couple I could do without, but The Rarities is genuinely my favourite album in spite of these same flaws. I'm with you. I can play Daydream back to back every day and twice on Eric's birthday (the big five-o this year). But The Rarities is genuinely my goto album every day and I don't see it stopping. It is so thrilling.

How is your husband, by the way? I hope he and the rest of your family are well.

"Butterfly" will always be precious to me as during that era I really became enamored with Mariah. I really liked "Memoirs" when it was released and listened to it non-stop. After all these years my favourites interchange depending on my mood. As music is profoundly intertwined with memories and strong emotions, good or bad. Perhaps that is why, despite really enjoying "Caution" as an album, I hardly listen to it nowadays. It is just too hard to relive that time in my life.

E=MC3 (97,326) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Rereading lots of threads here I just wanted to state to Mariah or Mariah's team reading this that a sequel to the upbeat single driven nature of E=MC2 is what's called for but it should not be another retread of familiar sounds. Mariah did Unforgettable and it *suited* her. Dance remixes and up-tempo always did before she abandoned it for rather over familiar formulas. I don't recall one person here resisting Unforgettable but everyone (almost) resisting I Don't. That song and Why You Mad? And Infuhmuzz and Infinniddee and so on remain largely hated by the lambs.

One of Mariah's gifts used to be taking a current sound and making it hers and owning it. C&C said it in 1993. This isn't her trying, this is hers. However, stuck in the past retreading the same old formulas will kill her recording wise. Something current with a Mariah twist that is fun and accessible and emotive would do well. One of the great things about Cruise Control was that it didn't require an octave jump of screeching. It was a refined song from start to finish.

Shawn Mended listens to "old school" Mariah because it sounded refined and fun and accessible with fantastic melodies and beats. It made people happy so they bought it, they played it, they talked about it. E=MC3 is a term I have in my head for a level of currentness and sophistication and refinement and fun and so on that Mariah needs to find again.

And for the the love of God, work with new or underused people, take from different inspirations even. Use Mark Shaiman and listen to Tchaikovsky. Listen to Eighties Whitney and look at Ariana's interpretation of it. There is more to recording that Y'all Know What This Is. Because we all do. It had its day. That was fine back then. Now, time for new genius, please.

4Real4Real was the original Ribbon? (97,325) by The Real Deal from USA
Has anybody else noticed the music, melody structure and harmonizatons of 4Real4Real sound almost identical to Ribbon?

Re: E=MC2 (97,323) (97,324) by The Real Deal from USA
I agree - or at the very least they could've cross promoted "Migrate" to urban and "I Stay In Love" to pop/AC, or they could've released "Migrate" as a standalone single and release "I Stay In Love" as a third. By the time they did release it, the album was already an afterthought.

Re: E=MC2 (97,312) (97,323) by 123 from USA
I love I Stay In Love and it should have been the second single over Bye Bye. It might be in the save vein as WBT but it's still good and one of the few vocal moments in the album. It would have been a number 1 record because that's what the public wanted from her at the time. The only problem with E=MC2 is that she stays in her mid range with no real vocal moments versus all the singing she was doing on the Mimi album and people weren't really feeling that. Plus she disappeared from all promo as Bye Bye was released and right before the album and didn't come back to promote until July. By then, the public was no longer interested in the album or single.

Re: 4Real4Real (97,305) (97,322) by 123 from USA
I always loved this song from first listen. The melody is super catchy. I know the some of the lyrics are questionable (hotter than cable tv?) but the melody is so good and the repetition of 4real at the end is just super catchy.

Re: Cool On You (97,313) (97,321) by 123 from USA
I love Cool On You from the first listen. It's classic uptempo sassy Mariah. I agree that the production sounds sparse and unfinished. I also wouldn't have minded some more vocal at the end of the song. I would have liked it as a single. I would have probably replace Bye Bye or OOC. They aren't bad songs but they don't really do anything for me.

The love of my life (97,320) by We are lambily from USA
80's legend Bonnie Tyler recalls a famous travel encounter with Mariah Carey in a new interview:

"I once found myself a seat away from Mariah Carey on a flight from New York. I'd heard stories she was a diva but she was lovely. We chatted over a glass of bubbly."

Yet here is another story that completely reassures what I have always known, Mariah is a sweetheart. The fact that she has spent 30+ years in the business and people still speak so highly of her says a lot.

My goal for 2021, is for Mariah to keep providing funny segments, quest appearances for tv shows and stuff like that. 2020 was a great year and I hope they continue on this path. I really do want a new album but I want her to take her time. She should do features for other people's albums.

Daydream. Daydream. Daydream. Did I mention my favorite album is Daydream?

Favorite Mariah album? (97,318) by Anonymous from USA
I think that my favorite Mariah album depends on my mood. I definitely can't say that I have a favorite, I love them all, but my "favorite" changes all the time. Depending on what's going on in my life, I bounce around. That's the thing though, she's done almost every genre. I do miss those days when we would get some good remixes. It's been a while since we got really hot remixes. Maybe next album. Fingers crossed.

Re: E=MC2 (97,312) (97,316) by The Real Deal from USA
I Stay In Love is my second favorite MC song of all time. My first is Can't Let Go. I honestly think it sounds more like Can't Let Go as opposed to We Belong Together or Don't Forget About Us. If anything the song with you has more of the harmonic structure of those two aforementioned. And as far as single choices from e equals MC squared I would have chosen the following: Touch My Body, Migrate, I'm That Chick (with intro), I Stay In Love, I'll Be Loving U Long Time (solo). I do like Cruise Control but I always felt there was something missing from the song such as where she spells out the word Cruise I feel like that should have been omitted or that needed to be repeated twice. So that being said, I would not have chosen that as a single. And even though Side Effects charted for a week, I don't think that its chorus was catchy enough for single material.

Re: E=MC2 EPs (97,315) by Anonymous from United States
I wonder why she left off "Bye Bye" or if something happened. Seems like there were multiple versions that could have been included on an EP.

"E = MC2" is one of my least favorite Mariah albums. Although I would have loved to see a few more of the singles go to #1, it really just felt like she was recycling ideas already explored on "The Emancipation of Mimi," which I like but think is slightly overrated. I thought the "Memoirs" album was much stronger than "E = MC2." Everything in Mariah's post-2001 period is pretty hit or miss with me with the exception of "Me I Am Mariah", which is a great album with a silly title.

Oh, definitely. I'll take "E=MC2" over "Blahtion" any day. It's probably my favourite album from hers. So much fun.

I didn't like "Cool On You" at first, but I love it now. It definitely fits perfect with that album.

E=MC2 (97,312) by Mirage_Nunez from America
Okay am I the only lamb that (still) get their life to I Stay In Love. I can't listen to that song without singing along; voice inflections and all. I know some will say "it's WBT number 3". I get it, but dare I say I like and listen to it more than WBT and DFAU.

Btw I'm That Chick single handedly inspired me to do a MC underrated grooves playlist so it's far to say I'll choose it over Migrate in hindsight and Cruise Control is still fun to listen to as well. I love how it ends then goes into (you guessed it ) I Stay In Love.

E=MC2 isn't one of my favorite albums though, only because I felt like it was just a collection of radio friendly songs and not as in-depth and unique as some of her previous (and post) efforts, but I Wish You Well, Side Effects, Love Story and the other songs mentioned are they gems I revisit. Oh and I probably listen to 4real 4real more than anything on that album. That's my jam.

Re: Cool On You (97,309) (97,310) by Chicago Lamb from USA
I absolutely love "Cool On You". What don't you like about "Mesmerized"? That's another I keep on repeat with its disco/BeeGee's arrangement. I also love "Lullaby of Birdland". Anything new that Mariah sings gets my attention. I know everyone is crazy for "Everything Fades Away", "Do you Think of Me", and "Slipping Away". But I am a legacy Lamb and wore those out long ago when they came out originally. I had the Dreamlover single on cassette back in '93. So, I skip them now.

Cool On You (97,309) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I've come to realize that the biggest reason why (Mesmerized aside) I gravitate towards this song the most out of The Rarities is because it reminds me so much of the E=MC2 era - slick, straightforward, sassy and fun. It still suffers from demo-itis with the spare, minimalist production approach, but could still have easily fit and even replace any of the weaker songs on that album.

E=MC2 love (97,307) by Anonymous from USA
I've always loved this album. I remember the day this album was released. I was working at a Target and it was everywhere, of course I bought my copy after my shift ended. The choice to pick Bye Bye as a second single was not a good one. Cruise Control would have been better as a single. It was the first time I would purchase my first iTunes songs and videos, with the singles and fabulous videos. Especially following Touch My Body. I really enjoy all the songs too though, not one I would skip to. And the bonus tracks for Japan were awesome too. It's a shame it didn't get the attention it deserved. #justiceforeinstein I also pick I'm That Chick over Migrate, I love that it's disco, the version with the intro is better. My favorites are 4Real 4Real, O.O.C., Cruise Control, and I'm That Chick. We definitely need another album like that.

I was listening to the album today and I gotta say I don't remember when I actually listened to a whole album without skipping a song. Each song, even the weaker ones are good on this album. And surprisingly still sounds fresh. Like if they released this album today it would sound current.

E=MC3. Two towsun' twenny one. Watch it. (97,304) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Cruise Control is the shit. It's the best thing on E=MC2 and beats everything on The Emancipation of Mimi. "Can't nobody can't nobody tell me nuttin' when he comes into view, cos he's the flyest ting when he be cruising' on me avenue." This album was mature and sophisticated and funnnnnnn and Cruise Control the best thing on it. It's one of the best songs she's ever done. If anyone disagree then "step up, step up, bottle, broken". You can keep your One Mo Gen and Givin' Me Life snoozefests while you sit in your armchair with your cocoa. I wanna sing, dance and party.

1. Cruise Control
2. Migrate
3. I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time

Those should have been the first three songs on the album and the order of single release. Starting the album with 2008, watch it, made sense. Nobody really wants ballads as single releases anymore, do they?

E=MC2's problem was waiting so long to release it. She should have released it an absolute maximum of two years after TEOM release. She was riding high. She was the biggest artist in the world again but she went on a tour and disappeared. When she came back, I think the public had moved on. Bye Bye was the nail in the coffin. She was *cool* - and then she was writing in a book on a sofa wiping a fake tear from her eye. And that was the end of that.

Roll on E=MC3.
