Derek Jeter (95,370)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Oh, how I wish MC and Derek Jeter got married in 1997. She was in love with that man. But instead we got The Roof, My All, Babydoll, Against All Odds, Subtle Invitation, Lullaby, We Belong Together, Don't Forget About Us, and Giving Me Life.

I can't believe you want to take beauty classes with Mariah's memoirs. She sucked at it. She used to do Crustella's hair, and we all know she looked like Cruella de Vil.

Haha, yes that's right. Mariah tell us about the beauty school. Seriously I'm really interested about her years before the fame started in 90. The late 80ies when she moved to NY must be interesting.

TMOMC is for the curious shepherds (95,366)
by Mutton Dressed as Lamb from UK
| |
|
|
The general public don't really know what we as the lambily know. You ask someone who isn't a fan about the Firecracker sample or "sing, sing" or even her marriage to Tommy and you will get blank stares.
If you read any gossip column or newspaper, the comments about her usually are focused on her voice or being a diva past her prime. The memoir isn't aimed at die hard fans, it's aimed at people who don't know her story.. Those people who know the music, but are curious about the woman behind the melodies. I'm looking forward to it.

You forgot the most intriguing, exciting subject that we don’t know much about and which deserves atleast a few chapsters:
500 hours of beauty school.

Bill we obviously have a difference of opinion on certain topics regarding MC's memoir. Neither one of us have read the book in its entirety, and we should wait to reserve our full judgment until after we have read the book completely. But I respect your opinion and feelings nonetheless.

In my opinion that would be "Vision Of Love" easily. A perfect debut song accompanied by a killer vocal performance, with a unique message about realizing a dream and finding her purpose and destiny. When it comes on in a playlist it's always a breath of fresh air.

I get what you're saying, it is Mariah's story to tell in whatever way she wants. How airing your family's dirty laundry in public for the entire world to read is cathartic and healing is beyond me. But maybe that's just me. She is known as a singer and, desperately, has always sought recognition for her songwriting. Mariah's previous stance of adopting a wall of silence on all things personal said all there was to say really, e.g., it's not worth my time to comment on tabloid fodder. We know the Tommy story. And Nick. And Stella. We know about Glitter. We know she's biracial. We know Alison has been a thorn in her side. We know she doesn't know J. Lo.
What we *don't* know is how she came up with that heavenly, gospel flavoured bridge in Vision of Love, her behind the scenes battle to put out the Fantasy remix she believed so much in, how Outside took on so many meanings for so many people, how she unknowingly contributed to the holiday song canon when she (at first, reluctantly) made her Christmas album, how motherhood has changed her drive and perspective, how she worked with Gavin Christopher before Ben Margulies came along, how she sang with those jazz musicians late at night in her youth, how Someday was apparently considered being purchased for Whitney's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" album but Mariah believed so much in it that she turned down the offer. This is what I want to read about.
But, like I said, maybe it's just me.
