Vinyl update (95,192) by Bobby A from United States
I just pre-ordered my Walmart Exclusive Mariah Carey for $29.00 including shipping and taxes. It will be released October 9th. It is a gold colored vinyl. It says on Walmart's website that it is already a "Best Seller." The non Walmart exclusive is also on their website but I ordered mine from Comeback Vinyl in Alpharetta Georgia. It will be released on October 2nd. Check out their website. They will ship to you. It looks like if you want Mariah Carey on vinyl then you better order now.

Stacey, we don't appreciate your post. We should all be thankful and rejoice even if Mariah records her own farts with JD. She doesn't owe us anything.

Go over to Cleveland.com and read the editor's comments on his top 76 Mariah Carey singles. He is right on point with his comments. He says everything most of you have been saying since 2008. Can someone put the link up? I am using my cellphone.

My local A/C station only plays one MC song, ABMB. So many other gems they could play. But I'll take it. ABMB sounds so great on the radio, 20+ years after its release.

Oh dear, here we go again. Some like the song. Some don't. Everyone has a right to express such. MCA is full of diverse opinions. If that bothers you, please leave and find go a place where everyone agrees 100% of the time. Let me know what you find. Cheers.

Look, that's really sweet of you. And you do have a point. Mariah is in many ways a vocal athlete. But since you brought up "the meaning of Mariah Carey", I think that such meaning should not be limited to what extremes she has been able to achieve with her voice. Nobody can take those away from her. What most of us here are concerned about is Mariah the person. This is a woman who has slowed down, yet not shown signs of ever wanting to stop making new music, at least while she physically can. It's what kept her alive and got her this far. Just as much as she values creating, she also clearly values her voice, what the public has come to expect from it and from her, and so she does everything to keep up that image of her still being able to at least attempt to approximate what she has been capable of doing in her prime (otherwise she wouldn't have to mime at all). So what many are truly worried about is that her actions don't seem to line up with what image she wants to maintain. She should really try to eliminate the alcohol, take longer breaks in between her touring dates, etc. Everything to preserve her voice, especially since she wants to keep making music and perform for her fans. Mariah understands that it's her instrument that put her on the map and got her this far, and so even by her standards, as evinced by even her most recent output, a track isn't a Mariah song if it doesn't have her signature stamp on it. Belts, runs and whistles that she won't be able to keep doing if she doesn't take care of her instrument. It allows her to keep doing what she loves and lives for. You're right - longevity shouldn't be the goal. At least not the only goal. But with MC30 and everything, it does seem to be one of hers (and she's even talked about longevity in some of her interviews and her critiques on AI).

I agree with your post completely.

Side note: my brother is considering moving to S.A. within a year, I would love to connect you with him for some info and such if you'd be inclined.

Re: Another take on the voice (95,178) (95,185) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Yes. Love this. And coming from the ballet world, all ballerinas know that longevity is not the goal. I actually left the ballet world so that I could live my life in other ways aside from that intense lifestyle. I have a feeling that Cirque Du Soleil performers are the same. They train for endless hours and have zero life outside of that world, so they do it for awhile then leave it at some point. It seems extremely healthy to me.

Once In A Lifetime ringtone (95,184) by Will from Australia
I wish Mariah had taken the ringtone to Once In A Lifetime and turned that into a full length song instead of STD. Some of those Pepsi ringtones could easily have been developed into full tracks. Actually give me the Pepsi album for MC30 please.

I think airplay plays a massive part in chart placements on Billboard. So, if radio won't pick it up, it won't go anywhere.

Re: Save The Day (95,169) (95,180) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I'm sorry but dismissing any criticism of Mariah's voice (regardless of validity) as hypocritical, especially in the context of "why aren't the others criticised as much" is oversimplifying things. It may just be because of preference or familiarity (or lack thereof), which are definitely different from hypocrisy.

This isn't the best analogy out there, but it's like if you hypothetically have neglectful parents. It isn't right to hold back from being upset towards them just because you first have to take into account all the other parents in the world who are way worse than yours just so you're sure that you aren't being ungrateful or unfair to your own.

Considering and comparing to every other artist out there, as ideal as that may seem, isn't a prerequisite to pointing out the flaws in one particular artist. We follow who we want to follow, and choose to critique them in comparison to whoever we want to compare them to based on our knowledge of them which also informs our feelings towards them.

No matter how much we would want to draw parallels between artists and judge/criticise one over the other, they are still on different, unique journeys of their own. And if we're gonna go by your examples, Whitney's and Amy's drug addiction and other struggles have been constant tabloid fodder back then, back when Mariah was doing better than both of them. But of course no one was outwardly giving Mariah credit for having a better head on her shoulders than them because that's not how things work. The media fixates on the negative because that's what sells. In fact, both Amy and Whitney and their drug-crazed behavior have been parodied in more media than Mariah's antics. For example, both artists' struggles were incorporated as punchlines in past episodes of American Dad. So if we were to reverse your hypocrisy claim, it should be fair for fans of both artists to cry foul that Mariah's Glitter breakdown, alleged alcoholism or diva behavior aren't featured as cutaway gags on the same show as well.

Also, Mariah is one of the few stars of her magnitude who continue to put themselves out there. Of course she's gonna attract more criticism than say, someone like Celine. Same with Madonna vs. Janet. The public will always, always be expecting more from someone who refuses to bow out of the spotlight.

Sadly, criticism is the main order of the day (95,179) by Mò from South Africa
Unfortunately Mariah's fans (ironic enough) generally have the most negative comments towards her. I doubt there will be anything good enough she puts out which will satisfy her fans. Her fans do a great job criticizing her than the general public.

What the general public got from SDT was a creative, comfortably enjoying herself, asking for no permission to be herself.

Another take on the voice (95,178) by Matthew from USA
This is going to sound blasphemous, but I think it needs to be said. Longevity isn't everyone's primary goal. I know that sounds crazy. What could be more important than the longevity and preservation of one's gift, talent, and career? Well, I like to think of Mariah as an athlete. A vocal athlete, if you will. When we think of Michael Jordan, we don't lament the fact that he can't do what he used to do in his prime. We marvel at the fact that a human being could soar through the air like that. When we think of Usain Bolt, it won't be to shake our heads at how he can't run like he used to when he hits 50. Instead, we will shake our heads in wonder at how a human could run that many miles in under 3 seconds. I use athletes as my example, because for them, longevity is actually not the point. For some few, pushing and pushing themselves to achieve the extraordinary is more important. I realize that's controversial to say because it's been hammered into our heads that longevity is what we should aspire to above all. But for vocal athletes like Mariah and Dimash, I think it's not so much about whether they can keep doing what they do into their 50's and 60's. It's about pushing for the extraordinary, though it might spell disaster. So though I respect Mrs. Williams, when she goes on about Mariah doing too much and if she would have not be so extra she could have preserved her voice longer, she's correct, but she's also missing the meaning of Mariah Carey. When you watch these young kids on YouTube hearing Mariah for the first time and being completely boggled, you realize that her push for the extraordinary gave ended up giving her more longevity than trying to preserve her voice by holding back ever could.

Sorry, new vocals only (STD) (95,177) by Carlos Jaramillo from United States
I have actively been listening to Mariah since 1993. I have a PHD on Mariah’s voice. Lol. No but seriously, it’s literally the only music I listen to or own, except for an Christina Aguilera cd someone gave me. I am 100% sure.

Save the day (95,176) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I really want to like "Save the Day", and I listen to it repeatedly, but I'm still not a fan of it, I feel a bit ashamed really. Even though I'm not that big of a fan, I have routinely checked iTunes top 100, and the song has been in the top since it was released, and as a Mariah fan I hope the song will crack the Billboard Hot 100.

What I'm curious about is, what does it take to get a song on Billboard Hot 100 these days? Will a stellar performance on iTunes top 100 be enough?

Love.

The EP’s / The rarities (95,174) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
To be honest with you all, everything surrounding MC30 is not costing the label in money, this is MC's thank you to her fans. So there will not be any big budget events surrounding this project like an actual album release. Besides that the pandemic is very much alive, and well so I doubt MC has any plans to do much promoting besides from home. We should just be appreciative of this moment, and give thanks that MC decided to do this for us because she truly loves, and appreciates her fans. However I am sure that she has starting writing some fresh material during quarantine but I do not believe that she will be releasing another album of new material anytime soon.

Deniece Williams (Lee and This is GHM) (95,173) by Randy from USA
I was kind of surprised when Eric (webmaster) didn't post that story about Deniece Williams. Here's my thing, MC's voice started a massive decline in 1998 so it trips me out people keep talking about "30 years in the business". My issue isn't the vocal decline, it's the deceit. The singing on records highly engineered that she has no hope of replicating live and then using a backing track when she sings live. Sometimes even recording a raspy backing track so it's not so obvious. I love MC and yes Whitney and Amy had their own struggles but Whitney sang live all the time no matter how bad a shape her voice was. If you are paid to do a job, do it. Teachers are paid to teach. Police officers are paid to police. Singers are paid to sing. And MC is considered one of the all time greats. If you are interested in the Deniece Williams article you can view it here.

Robert-Anthony / Walter A (95,172) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Fans need to accept that MC has no interest in rebuilding a friendship, nor a working relationship with Walter A. Randy Jackson tried to reconnect them during the MIAM era. Robert Anthony I understand that you, and many other fans would love to see them together again. However we should respect that MC has decided to move on, and for whatever reason is between them maybe she will talk about their musical partnership and what caused them to fall out, and grow apart in her memoir, and if she chooses not to we should respect that as well. Fans need to allow MC the freedom to create the art she chooses, and with whom she chooses.

Re: Save The Day (95,169) (95,171) by Bill from the UK
I'm not sure if you're talking about real critics, or people on this board, but personally I'm not a fan of Whitney and Amy, so I don't comment on them, nor did I ever read up on their personal struggles, though I knew about it. The troubles those two faced were much more public than anything Mariah has ever done. Like many here, we raise these issues because we were there at the beginning and have witnessed the decline and, due to our love for her, it concerns us. I want Mariah to be around for many, many years. I want her to keep making great songs and being the soundtrack to my life. If anything ever happened to her I would be heartbroken and devastated. We all would.

Re: Save The Day (95,167) (95,169) by Lee from USA
My problem with this criticism is the hypocrisy in it. She deserved it. I mean, how are the critics complaining about Mariah's vocals and yet said nothing when Whitney and Amy Winehouse were killing themselves for years. There is no mention of Adele not releasing new music, but there is bellyaching about Mariah's every move.
