Rainbow EPs (96,024)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
The Rainbow EPs will be arriving this Friday. Rejoice. I need to dig out my original post and see what makes the cut and what doesn't.
Heartbreaker 1. Remix 2. No Rap Version 3. Love Hangover Version 4. Junior's Club Mix 5. Junior's Dub Mix 6. Junior's Hard Mix
Thank God I Found You 1. Make It Last Remix 2. Make It Last Remix Edit 3. Make It Last Remix w/o Rap 4. Make It Last Remix Instrumental 5. Celebratory Mix 6. StarGate Radio Edit
Great news - twisty top picture sleeve rather than braided hair and hat picture sleeve.
Can't Take That Away 1. Radio Edit 2. Morales Club Mix Edit 3. Morales Club Mix 4. Morales Revival Triumphant Mix 5. Morales Instrumental
This is using the (much better) pink sleeve rather than the "garden of Eden" sleeve.
Against All Odds 1. Westlife Version 2. Mariah Only 3. Pound Boys Radio Edit 4. Pound Boys Main Mix 5. Pound Boys Deep Dub 6. Pound Boys Dub
I'll do my usual full analysis over the weekend. Betcha can't wait.

Congratulations to Mariah, Ms. Davis, and all of us who have supported Mariah during this time and making this incredible moment happen for her. This is just another achievement to add to Mariah's already decorated career, and resume. Mariah is now a best selling singer, songwriter, producer and now she is a best selling author.

Congratulations MC. This makes me happy. It's so deserverd for the intimate memoir she's sharing. I have to read the book slowly, because I have to translate unknown vocabulary but I love to read every chapter of the book. It makes me admire her even more.

1. One Night 2. Loverboy (Stolen Sample) 3. Out Here On My Own 4. Here We Go Around Again 5. Mesmerized
I like "I Pray", but it's more of the same and kind of short. I can see why it wasn't part of any project back then. Definitely a song for a kid like then Paul to sing.
Replacing "Loverboy (Candy)" with "Loverboy (Original Version)", and "Twister" with "Out Here On My Own", Glitter sounds complete to me.

1. Out Here on My Own (Perfect song. She demonstrates incredible strength and vulnerability in her voice. Everyone can relate to it.)
2. All I Live For (Reminds me of Bobby Brown's "Every Little Step I Take". Love this style of music.)
3. I Pray (Beautiful song, beautiful message.)
4. One Night (Who can get over Mariah's Daydream era voice? To me, it's the perfect woman voice.)
5. Loverboy (It's so playful, her tone is so velvety and she's just so cool, lol.)

Mariah is brilliant here. She so clearly articulates her memoir's emphasis on race. I'm so happy she got that off her chest.

That is the way a candidate for public office should be speaking during this election cycle. I have always been proud of you, Mariah. But these words bring that pride "higher than the heavens up above".

I Love a good list sometimes, ok here goes: 1. "Loverboy" (Firecracker - Original Version) - I looked forward to this more than any other song on this record and I was not disappointed at all. 2. "Can You Hear Me" - Like all songs from that era this song has that sound, one of the purest, nostalgic feeling ever that cannot really be described in words you have to feel it. 3. "Mesmerized" - An instant favorite and I have already played it more than the others according to my music player. 4. "I Pray" - Never really paid attention to the original version she wrote for that boy, this is the first time I'm hearing it and it's by Mariah and I love her version. The message of this song is so potent even today. 5. "Cool on You" - This digressed just a little bit for me after a few listens, but I still like it especially the "Kick Rocks" part. Lol. This was Mariah practicing to write the most scathing diss song just two years later. Hehe.

One Night (96,013)
by Terna from Nigeria

Honestly, I couldn't care for this song and after sitting with the album now for a minute, I could say I don't like it at all, matter of fact it is the only song that I don't like. It starts off really intriguing and it almost seems like its gonna be a huge Mariah Carey vocal moment (like only she can do) the way the vocal intro gets intense with just a few bars in (kinda like Whitney Houston's "Didn't we almost have it all"), only for it to morph like Jess Glynn's "Real Love" into some long, drawn out noisy mess of a song. Even when playing it for the first time, I couldn't wait for it to end. Lol. I can see why it was left off. It doesn't really go anywhere. Mariah should've left this one in the vault and replaced it with something else.

This is just for the newly heard songs and not counting DYTOM, EFA, and SA that I’ve loved for decades (but are getting less love now):
1. Out here on my own 2. Loverboy (Firecracker) 3. Cool on you 4. Can you hear me 5. Here we go around again / Mesmerized

5. One Night (would have stuck out but also have been an interesting inclusion in Daydream) 4. Loverboy (just insanely fun and bouncy) 3. All I Live For (very Toni Braxton debut album vibes) 2. Cool On You (really cool and smooth) 1. Mesmerized (opulent-sounding)
This album is quite well-balanced especially in terms of the tempo of the songs. I guess it's safe to assume that we would have at least a second installment of rarities, but this is such a strong set that it would be quite difficult to top to be honest.

For them it's about reaching all the demographics leading to what they believe will result in greater sales. But ya it sort of kills momentum. It did for EMC2. (Although the opposite is true for TEOM, Daydream and Musicbox. Her biggest selling albums.)

I really love this album. Finding it very hard to narrow to 5 songs, particularly since I still love several rare tracks we already had as B sides.

Well it looks like my prediction was way off in left field again Andrew. The true analysts are saying 15,000-21,000 at #19 on the Billboard 200. I predicted 160,000 units sold.

Damizza (96,004)

I'm reading now books by Tommy's and Damizza. Damizza's recount seems to be quite different from Mariah's memoirs. Tommy's book is quite close to her story though from a different perspective. Mizza is not in the MOMC as well and at least half of his book is about Mariah.

1. Firelover Crackerboy 2. One Night 3. Out Here On My Own 4. Cool On You 5. Mesmerized
I never understood labels' obsession with an upbeat track followed by ballad. Ruins momentum I think.

Fave five The Rarities songs (96,000)
by Lainsky from Philippines

In the 90's, the artist normally releases 4-6 singles from an album depending on the record label too. On that note, what are your five favorites from this MC30 rare collection? Here are my fave five singles I wish the world would hear and listen to.
1. Out Here On My Own (still, can't get over) 2. Mesmerized (the title do its job) 3. Cool On You (infectious - do the coat, kick rocks, eat dirt) 4. Can You Hear Me (soulful Mariah) 5. Here We Go Around Again (old classic vibe you'll never get tired of listening)
If there will be B-side, that would be I Pray. For the fifth day in a row, this album is on repeat for at least 4-5x with volume almost in full lol. The neighbors definitely can hear it.
