Sugar Sweet (110,483) by Jamie from UK
Yes I feel the same, Mariah should have been more vocal on this track, there was no need for two other artists, one would have been enough at the end. I really don't get the lack of promotion behind SW though, it's like they went here you go and just disappeared, no video, no remixes, it doesn't make sense for a release. Was it gonna be number one, no. But at least try and back up what you're releasing, especially while she has done so many interviews recently, the roll out has been great apart from SW, it's really bizarre.

I am hoping for the same. I think Sugar Sweet was something like GTFO from Caution - just a teaser single but then again, GTFO had a video. And a good one. At least visually.

I just can't connect to it knowing that there are two more artists on in that I never heard of.

I really wish I could work in an environment such as gamma to see who decides these things and release or not release singles and videos on time or after.

Another #1 (110,481) by Dove from United States
I think MC can still have another #1. She doesn't need it, but she's so close to tying The Beatles. Why not at least try?

It's going to take something big, though. A really, really catchy song that you'd want to play on repeat. They need to play it somewhere everyone will hear it. Remember when Don't Stop Believing became super popular again after playing over the last montage on Laguna Beach? It didn't reach #1, but still, it made a resurgence. And not everyone watched Laguna Beach. It would need to be a movie or show that appealed to everyone.

I don't think people mind seeing Mariah blinged up. I love it. I live my royal gemstone dreams through her. She worked hard for that mess. But we need to see another "human" side to her too.

Some ideas I have off the top of my head. When I was young the super talented music icon, Juan Gabriel, would have other singers sing his already super popular musical masterpieces. He sang them too, but the new singer gave it new dimension and life. All versions are still classics to this day.

Nobody can sing Mariah songs better than Mariah.

The cheap route would be to cover a Taylor Swift song. I know she's younger and has been in the game less time but she really is very talented. That's a big part of why people love her so much. Her songs are really heartfelt. When she was younger, her songs were younger. She sang about "young" things and the songs did come off sophomoric to a more mature audience.

But her songs have matured and grown with her. How Did It End? The Prophecy, My Tears Ricochet, Would've, Could've, Should've... I could hear Mariah singing all of these. As long as she says nice things about Taylor her fans would at least listen to it. Taylor's fans are pretty nice IMO.

I don't think a duet would sound good between those two, though. MC might be too proud to do this. I think it would make her appear humble. Some haters might say she's only doing it to ride on Taylor's success train right now but haters will always have something negative to say. I think people would listen to it. It would be magical if she had Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift covers on her album. The past and the future.

Also, she needs another "Fantasy" with the "boom" for the show/movie I mentioned earlier. There's still time. September 26th is more than a month away.

Two problems with "Sugar sweet". It should have been a solo or just have been with Shenseea or with Ariana. Second no video. "Sugar sweet" had the potential to be better had Mariah gotten another verse in the song. I really thought hearing the snippet that it was gonna be another "Touch my body" lol. I was wrong. At this point all we can hope for is a good album.

So obviously we all love Mariah, otherwise we wouldn't be here, and Mariah has the right to live her life and present herself to the public however she sees fit. But, I will say that in today's time, that can be a double edged sword, right wrong or indifferent. I feel like younger Millennials and Gen Z are going through so much, as we all are in this world, and the one thing they like best is relatability. Gone are the days of divas and huge pop Icons that were treated as if they were royalty. When people are anxious, depressed, broke, lost, etc, the last thing they want to see is someone complaining or talking about the lighting, the size of their diamonds, or the expensive clothing they wear. This message or rant, isn't a dig on Mariah. We know she is a diva (the good version of that term), and she has earned the right to be, but you can't expect people to relate, like or spend their hard earned money on someone they can't connect with.

The thing that makes me the most disappointed is the fact that this would be the best time for Mariah the artist to shine. She could go into full breakdowns of a song writing process, production. Write for other current and upcoming artists. Discuss in depth the obstacles she had to overcome in the music business to be the successful artist and woman that she is today.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, there is no greater point in time than now where Mariah the artist, songwriter, producer and yes even singer (though limited), could shine and reach the masses. Just imagine a YouTube video or made for TV special of Taylor Swift and Mariah writing and composing a song together. It would break the Internet. Anyway rant over. Also, I can't wait to purchase Here for it All when it is released in September.

I still believe Mariah has and will have one more big hit in her. Maybe not a number one, but definitely a top ten song.

Taylor announced yesterday that her album is dropping on October 3rd, just one week later after MC's masterpiece. Let the battle begin because you know the media will talk about chart battle on October 3rd. Why couldn't she just wait until late October?

Here For It All (110,474) by Edward from USA
If I were Mariah, I would drop the album while the buzz is still hot, ideally within the next two weeks, while she's out promoting and the media is talking about it. It's clear now that the plan was for either "Type Dangerous" or "Sugar Sweet" to blow up and build momentum leading to the "Here For It All" release in September, but we're witnessing that's not how it's playing out.

Album releases in the 1990's (110,473) by jaker20 from US
I would love for Mariah to release Someone's Ugly Daughter. It's supposedly a full album with full track list. That would be a big change for her, and the way she kept talking about it, it seems she want to, but for whatever reason is hesitating to do it. Do it Mariah.

Mariah's team can only wish. The two competing would benefit Mariah only just from the free publicity alone. They're no longer in the same commercial league anymore, as Mariah is a legacy act. I just want Mariah's album to be good and I don't care about what others are putting out there.

Taylor's album will release a week after Mariah's. She's putting Olivia in a worse position because she beat her announcement and Olivia is supposed to release in 2025. Now Olivia is likely going to change plans, especially with Sabrina already releasing later this month.

Exactly my sentiment. I love Bobby A's positive outlook, but having realistic expectations matters too. If "Sugar Sweet" had been released by Ariana or any other hot artist of the moment, I'm sure it would've taken off. Sadly, Mariah just isn't on most people's radar these days. We, her remaining fans, will always root for her, but it's becoming clear that the general public just doesn't connect with her as an artist anymore, almost as if they can't relate. That's why she hasn't been able to ride the wave of AIWFCIY into a big follow-up project. Maybe she's said everything she had to say, but until she starts singing from her heart again, I don't see anything changing.

I can only name one Taylor Swift song, and that's because it shares a title with one of Mariah's, "Shake It Off". I'm not a fan of her music, even though I did give "Red" and its twenty variations a try. But when fans in non-English speaking countries are willing to camp outside stadiums for three months just to see her, regardless of promotions or record labels, it's clear she's universally loved like Mariah once was, before her diva persona took over.

Taylor Swift (110,470) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
I say, bring it on Taylor. I actually quite enjoy it if she dropped on the same day. For a myriad of reasons. Some I've already discussed on this board in the recent past. Taylor is desperate for a Christmas #1 but everybody knows why she won't anytime soon. Mariah's likely going to be #1 on her birthday one way or another. MC isn't chasing Taylor, Taylor's chasing MC. Good luck with that.

America isn't the only market. Other territories are much more into Mariah even in her "legacy" act season at. Mariah's spoiled us so much with albums back-to-back, stacked with hits that we forget some artists have built entire career off of one major commercially or critically acclaimed album or even one big hit. In a way she's been around so long that some people only associate her with AIWFC.

But then deep cuts from 2009 and even her older #1's from 1998 go viral regularly. There is obviously still a thirst for her brand of music. The chances of her going #1 with a new song are not as crazy as you'd think. What's that Chinese saying: When a butterfly flaps its wings...

As much as I am annoyed that TS is dropping an album right around Mariah's time, I don't think she would even be competing with Mariah because she knows she can easily overshadow. If anything she's weirdly going to outshine her bestie Sabrina and possibly even Olivia. This is why I wanted Mariah to strike when the iron is hot and just go ahead with the release by August. That way she'd have her time to shine. And you know Taylor will have her lengthy track list and multiple variants so unfortunately chart wise there's no hope for Mariah.

It would be great if there were actually a battle. I don't think Swift's team has Mariah anywhere near their radar tbh. I know that amongst her fans, we're waiting with baited breath, but the GP doesn't have her on their radar either.

The two lead singles have had a positive reaction from the fans and have stoked a new sense of optimism amongst us as well, but neither of them are doing anywhere near well enough to be a threat to any upcoming album release.

I believe that it's going to hinge more on the album drop and how well it can garner attention in the r&b space, as opposed to the pop/mainstream space.

I still believe that a comeback single is entirely possible for her; some heartfelt song from out of left field with a great hook and thumping beat could do it. It's been said here many times before (I know I've said it), but it bears repeating - her heart's gotta be in it.

The thing that Taylor has brought to the table in her dominion of the charts, is a team with a lot of business savvy, sharp marketing skills, well crafted public image, and a no-holds-barred drive to plaster her everywhere. And while I think Mariah could benefit from a level of that (I think Gamma is trying-adjacent), I think Mariah is so done with that part of her career/life. She went from IDWC to I Don't Wanna Try. You know, it's kind of like when an introvert makes future plans when they're excited, and then as the day approaches, they hate themselves for making the plans. At least that's my take on it.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this new album after hearing the "Here For It All", snippet. I guess we'll see on September 26th.

But I'm glad you're still hyped for a big moment from this era. I like your take better than mine, if I'm being honest. Hope is always a good thing, Bobby A.

Oh I had a completely different take on the Alan Carr interview. She was laughing, making jokes and sounded completely at ease talking to him. It's the most relaxed she has sounded in an interview, and in fact I think the radio interviews she's been giving in the UK were pretty good and she was having fun (making a brew etc.). Throughout the last couple of weeks she's s come across more relaxed with each interview - maybe it's something about the British DJs over here, they've been asking more varied questions I feel rather than just sticking to the one topic American interviewers only know or talk about: Christmas. Over here they've been more silly, and relaxed about it.

Album releases in the 1990's (110,466) by T from USA
She released an album of some kind every year of the '90's except 1996. It would've been great if she put out Someone's Ugly Daughter in that year, then transitioned to Butterfly the next year. I think she would've gotten more respect and possibly things would've gone different for her at the end of the decade (possibly).

I would love that too. The superficial things are not healthy and needed. Pamela Anderson is a great example, with "being older and wiser" than in the youth, she now loves being in the nature and she looks beautiful with that new natural look. I never thought she would change in that direction, nothing cheap anymore. It's a wonderful change. Nature is healing every human, nature doesn't care if you're Mariah Carey or not. Mariah could go to the most beautiful places on earth. And I don't mean shopping in Aspen. Just a place to relax and enjoy. Then a come back with a jazz album. One can dream. And just as a surprise releasing the "grunge" album from 95/96.

I would love Mariah to forget the glam, the diva pretense, the hair, the make up etc and take herself off to a yoga style retreat for a month where she can reconnect with herself again, focus on what's important and be one present with herself again. I suspect she's past that now tbh but I think it would be good for her to be spiritual for a while, eat healthy food, no booze. Then gradually reduce the meds and get back to being her best.

German interview (110,463) by Sascha from Germany
It's not that bad. She's taking the Karl Lagerfeld route. The author notes that Mariah is listening carefully, apologizes when she nips on her Cola, that she uses irony and laughs a lot. The author sounds rather fond of her and delves a lot into her history and childhood. It's really not a bad article but rather shows everything we already know about how Mariah is today.

Plus: The author notes that it's late in the day and the last interview after a whole day of interviews. Mariah is obviously tired and notes herself that she has run out of energy. That context is needed for that last paragraph.

The managers asking if she has spoken at all shows that it's really Mariah and the interviewer. No manager by her side overwatching the questions and answers. In context this shows that Mariah is free in the interview ("managers have given up trying to control her").

I'm actually surprised at the reaction here - this was the same belt that was played during the album cover reveal where I reacted she sounded metallic or chipmunk like. This is definitely the best take she could deliver and even that belt I suspect is piece together or engineered to sound connected. Mariah is a studio singer and if this is what we are hearing as final then imagine how long it took since it's been many years since she released a studio effort. She's had the entire pandemic plus to rest or train her voice. I think she's an alcoholic and perhaps her addiction has ruined her voice beyond repair. Its really tough to watch or listen to her interviews, she is heavily sedated and has memory/recall issue because she can't remember in detail past events or people. The Alan Carr podcast interview was very telling. He was so happy and easy to chat with and Mariah came across like she just met the guy. Thoughts?
