Songwriter's Hall of fame 2020. (92,386) by Terna from Nigeria Isn't this just the best news ever? Wow, a big congratulations are in order for Mariah. Long overdue if you ask me. I know this means a lot to her as she's always mentioned the fact she's not just a singer but even a songwriter first and foremost. Finally Mariah is getting the respect she deserves. Legend. Mariah's made a stylistic choice to sing in her highly debated whisper register and that's why LA and JD told her on her next album she had to get back to actually singing and she did and the rest is history. Celine (92,381) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City) When it comes to Celine playback is nothing new, she has been doing it for quite sometime. The fact of the matter is she will never get judged as harshly as MC no matter what the situation is. Also I feel like we need to accept that Mariah is, and has always been judged and treated differently even during her early years. To write music and have a few hits here and there is pretty cool. To write all your hits and have 19 of them go hit #1, countless top 10 songs/albums on top of that is amazing. YME vs YDKWTD (92,379) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City) Another era that was killed by poor mismanagement. Beautiful was definitely a step in the right direction musically the video was a step in the wrong direction and killed the momentum, besides another lazy single choice with "You’re mine (Eternal)". "You don’t know what to do" would have been a great follow up to Beautiful also to go along with the summertime vibes. Unfortunately we can not undo the mistakes, and mismanagement of the past, we can only focus on the present, and hopefully what is to come of the future. All we can do is be optimistic and continue to hope for the best when it comes to Mariah personally, and professionally. (Thursday 16 January 2020; 17:13)

She just wrote something on Instagram/Facebook because of the nomination. By the way she looks so beautiful. I believe it's one of her bigggest achievements as an artist. Re: Celine (92,368) (92,377) by Timothy from USA Now Andrew. I have been clear that I have no interest in antagonist exchanges with anyone on this board. It's a waste of good, productive energy for what is supposed to be an escape. I did not criticize Celine, I said she was great, even phenomenal at lip syncing and it was a great show. I would see it again. But two things. 1) As an an African American (especially as one who is a leader in corporate America) I can relate and understand the sentiment Mariah and others share about always having to be twice as good and receiving twice or even three times as much criticism for what non-others get passes for. Case in point, if Britney Spears was a black girl years ago, lazily lip-syncing on the MTV Music Awards, her career would be over, not momentarily paused with overwhelming sympathy. So, my observation (being one of maybe 11 African Americans at the entire Celine Show and 1 of maybe 200 at the Lionel Richie show) is that one can make conclusions about the praise and complete confidence for one compared to the harsh criticism and doubt raised for the other. The same could be said for the UK, which is currently facing a split of its Royal Family based on the press's racial undertones. I will never debate the validity of feelings of a person of color with someone who is is not. It is what it is but I think flat out denials and persecution of people that even hint at the topic is tone deaf in 2020. There are just too many examples on a weekly or daily basis. Second thing. You have mentioned in the past (numerous times) Andrew that people pay $250+ and should get to see a singer sing or a phenomenal display of talent. My tickets for Celine were close to $600. So, I think that entitles me to walk away from that and have a few notes. In the end the main themes of my last message were her great showmanship, great acting and really timeless songs. The point I make now, after your response however is we see the world the way we choose to see it. Celine's audience was choosing not see the lip syncing instead of actively looking for it. End. I'm just happy she's finally getting the recognition for songwriting that she's wanted for so long. Now watch all the people who posted about these honors not being so important come back saying how important they are now that she's finally being inducted into one of them. Lol. I'm sure she's more excited about this than yet another recognition as a singer. A legendendary singer and songwriter confirmed. This is the kind of recognition that she deserves. So happy for her. It's official (92,374) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City) To begin 2020 Mariah had the number 1 song in the US, which extended her record as solo artist with the most number 1's. She also made history with the most weeks at number 1 and she extended record as the first and only artist to have a number 1 song expanding four decades. Today is was officially announced that Mariah will be officially inducted into the 2020 class of the Songwriters Hall of fame. She is one of few women. This is a great achievement to mark her 30 year in the music industry. She was the first artist announced as an inductee. Congratulations Mariah you have definitely earned this honor and recognition. The follow up, I agree, should have been either YDKWTD or Make It Look Good, the best song on the album, featuring the brilliant Stevie Wonder. Such a waste. I won't even label that. Lol. I do think it's fitting that Aretha was the first female inducted into the Hall of fame. The GOAT. There have only been over 50 women inducted and "fun" fact, the first 18 women were African American, from Aretha to Gladys, with many Motown women inducted early on. I think the difference in generosity towards Mariah and Celine would stem from 3 things: 1. Celine's ability to not struggle with singing in a normal range. 2. Celines's ability to make the playback transitions less painful and act it out rather than freeze and squint. 3. The levels of goodwill towards Celine from the industry and the public due to her much more down to Earth and likeable persona. Mariah sounds pretty bad at the moment. To have had to lip sync "With You", whose range my cat could sing in when especially hungry, says much. To deny that Mariah has serious and apparent vocal issues now is delusional at best and dishonest at worst. Celine has nowhere near the level of damage. And when Mariah's playback kicks in it is terribly obvious due to her *in*ability to act. If Mariah could do it as well as Celine people here would praise her. She did, in fact, do it pretty well at the SSFT. Something changed on that show, short term at least. But to criticise Celine about vocals and lip sync on a Mariah Carey platform is throwing stones in glass houses. Talking of the absurd: "I am not ready to call it a race thing." It actually *makes* you a racist to even consider this where no evidence at all suggests Mariah is criticised for her voice because of her race. Or if you have some, share it. Mel B said, not so long ago: "Maybe the voice just isn't there anymore." And she's, um, black, right? Somebody tell Mel B she's a racist. And Boyz II Men who also criticised Mariah's lack of care for her voice. But wait, they're men. They're clearly sexist, too. That's two victimhood gold stars. Sometimes I think that people on here criticise me because I'm white. It's all clear to me now. *And* I was called a girl here the other day. So I have been misgendered and also the victim of what I assume was intended to be an attack based upon my perceived sexuality. That's got to be at least a dozen victimhood gold stars for me. You're Mine vs You Don''t Know What as first single (92,367) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia Releasing You're Mine as the first single after the success of a throwback R&B sound (#Beautiful) was a huge mistake, in my opinion. The label, or Mariah, should have picked You Don't Know What To Do, an updated 70's disco R&B, as the opening song for the Elusive era. And even if they wanted to go for You're Mine, at least be consistent in having Mariah to perform that song to the masses. She only performed live the song once, at the Bet Honors 2014. She did not do any singing of that first single when she made an appearance at David Letterman, 106&Park, MTV First, Today Show Summer Concert and World Music Awards. For me, it was such a waste effort from them of releasing You're Mine (with a decent budget of a video) and not consistently promoting the song. The main reason for the huge success of We Belong Together was the many live performances of that song in every major TV show in 2005. (Thursday 16 January 2020; 05:29)

I was surprised the webmaster didn't give me some corrective brackets lol. There are a lot of YouTube videos from Celine's Courage stop in Atlanta. You guys should definitely check out the opening, All Coming Back To Me Now (100% playback as confirmed by her biggest fans) and the climaxes of The Power of Love (playback from first chorus) and All By Self (playback climax note). Even if it easier to tell on a video it was extremely believable in person. (Wednesday 15 January 2020; 22:28)

That thing didn't help Janet one bit, it just makes artists look over the hill and completely done. I mean, Streisand, Sinatra, Garth Brooks, Celine are just a few who are non-inductees so I wouldn't put much importance on it. It would be like if MCArchives do a round robin voting and call it MC Archives Hall of Fame, meaning, it's just an opinion of another group of people, but with money because they can afford a show. Charmbracelet era and album (92,362) by Terna from Nigeria Just throw that whole album and era away. Delete. That was the most pathetic, intimidating time to be a lamb and it's a time I don't look back with fun memories at all (all caps). I was sorta still a new "Lambie" and it was painful to see our once high and mighty Mariah had diminished into a whisper literally. "Through the Rain" was the best song on that album and sorta the only semblance of the Old Mariah - the real Mariah so to speak. I remember on the day I bought the CD, I also bought the earlier albums "Daydream" and "Mariah Carey", and I played those records first. Now imagine playing "Charmbracelet" next with all the excitement, I noticed it immediately, nothing but shouting and whispering no middle voice nor mix there. There's never a time she doesn't sound like singing is a chore when trying to belt (have you heard the full version of "You Got Me" it's over 5 minutes long) the ease of singing is non existent. Ugh. And don't get me started on that hideous, sorry excuse of a BOTHB remake (have you heard the original version?). . I was so disappointed in Mariah and I said to myself if I hear this sh*t on her next album, I'm done. Well you know the rest. (Wednesday 15 January 2020; 22:21)
