I love the idea to have a whatsapp chat. I think that will allow us to interact more and get to know each other better.

Mariah confirms she's done 10 songs for new album (104,040) by jaker20 from US
Yeah, how a woman in the business for 30+ years and a catalog bigger than every current artists combined can't make things happen and do it herself? I'm sure she has all the connections on some of the top of the top. Just make the damn album yourself and have full control of how it's made and released.

I'm not in the industry so I'm sure I'm just talking out of my behind and don't know a lot. But I just don't get how Mariah, who's in the business for a long time, who just happens to be one of the biggest in the history of pop music, does not seem to be making major and more unusual business decisions, and still seem to be a follower of trends and how things work. I'll never understand it. Is she just lazy, or just simply not understanding how things work? Mariah is hugely talented, but does not seem to have the business acumen of Taylor Swift or Rihanna.

Mariah confirms she's done 10 songs for new album (104,039) by Edward from USA
I concur. Making an album is cheap these days, especially since she writes her own songs. She doesn't really need a label, she could've sold those 50K units of Caution just by promoting it herself.

Great point Bill. If Alicia, Janet, Betty Wright and Tina can do it, then surely MC can do it. I feel MC likes to have a label's financial support behind her because of the feeling of having her financial security taken from underneath like her mother had happened after the separation from Alfred Roy. Just my thoughts.

You were right. "You lost a friend" is way more my taste. Good song, very soulful. Thumbs up.

Mariah confirms she's done 10 songs for new album (104,036) by Bill from the UK
Surely by now the old girl could just finance the damn album herself. All this talk of her shopping around for a record deal is humiliating. She has the resources and star power to go it alone. All she ever does is complain about how such and such a single wasn't pushed, wrong song choices, was told to take songs off she liked, record company politics and blah blah blah. Put your money where your mouth is and go it alone. Tina Arena did so with her latest album because she was tired of the industry and being overlooked, despite being very talented. It did exceptionally well in Australia and was an excellent album too.

It seems like MC is getting ready to pitch a body work to get a new record deal. I think this is the way older artists are doing it these days.

As long as Mariah doesn't have anything to do with the script and directing, that could happen.

Mariah Carey's Christmas movie (104,032) by jaker20 from US
I think Mariah should do a proper Christmas movie with a great story, and a good script, and all the music from Merry Christmas 1 and 2 and some new fun ones. Kind of like Meryl Streep's Mama Mia, but Christmas themed. I think that's a good idea.

Hopefully this is true, and that "done" is actually done lol. I'm also excited for the collab with Usher. Hopefully she delivers another Caution classic.

We should have a dysfunctional Whatsapp group by now shouldn't we? Where we can communicate in real time and also be able to drag Andrew and Randy at random just because. Especially Andrew, during the Christmas seasons a tradition Special K started a while back for that wig comment he made.

Talk show schedule (104,027) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Does anyone know Mimi's full talk show schedule for the coming months? She's been doing so much more TV recently and I don't know until after the fact. Thanks so much for the JHud tip this week. I've got it recorded now. Any other daytime or nighttime talk show appearances coming up? I love when Mariah does the talk show circuit.

Saint Harison (104,026) by Terna from Nigeria
The Grammies. She already played to that tune multiple times over the span of the 90's and they paid her dust every single time, even when it was obvious that her's was the superior work. Mariah is not worried about that scam of a show trust me. They on the other hand through might be bothered seeing as I read somewhere on social media (IG) she's been nominated for the Hunter remix of "Working hard".

He calls himself a lamb
Yet gets on those boards
Trash talks who I am
My scuffed up vocal cords

He goes low with my weight
My lighting gets his scorn
Today I must say mate
I curse that you were born

An original poem by Randy. He's on hiatus from the board but it's so funny he said I could post it.

Saint Harison (104,024) by Bobby A from United States
Okay, I understand. Love Takes Time is MC at her best. If we could just get back to that type of ballad, just maybe the Grammys will recognize MC with several nominations and awards in the near future. I really feel that she has gotten the memo. Plus, she is older now and she can't have rappers featured on her songs as much.

Saint Harison (104,023) by Bill from the UK
Eh. Give me Love Takes Time any day of the week.

Speaking of Love Takes Time, I noticed today that on the Qobuz streaming app (I'm one of 5 people in the world who use it, rather than Spotify as the sound quality is so much better), the version of Love Takes Time on the debut album has been replaced with the single version that was released on the single variants (CD, cassette and vinyl single releases).

Most people don't notice it, but on the single version, the high note during the "feel that you do inside" line at the end of the bridge is pushed way, way back into the mix so you can barely hear it. The album version however has it much more prominently placed. The Greatest Hits and #1s albums retain the original version. I wonder why this got switched? Is this the same for Spotify and the others, I wonder.

I know, but I am hoping it is a male this time. While we are on Taylor Swift, tell me why does every record store that I go into has their wall aligned with all of her vinyl records or a display stand in aisle. MC never got this treatment in the early 1990s. I remember hunting through the CD bin trying to find the CD maxi single of Can't Take That Away.

My last ditch effort to bring you over to my side. Listen to his ballad, Lost a Friend. He sings in full voice and to me channels Amy Winehouse.

Absolutely. I think one reason why Taylor Swift is so big is because there's no real competition anymore. There's only Adele in that age group. Compared to the 80ies and 90ies the music biz is really boring and almost dead. I had to google who Saint Harison is and started a song, but I couldn't listen more than 30 seconds. Bill I have the same thought. The voice is strange and unpleasant to my ears. I will listen to Marvin Gaye's album "What's goin' on" tonight. Masterpiece. The rythmn of "Inner City Blues" always gets me, music used to be so good.

I think that only happens [once] in a lifetime. As much as I loved Whitney and like Celine, they couldn't quite get to me like Mariah did. While Whitney's voice was more powerful, Mariah's artistry was far superior and her voice more nuanced. Whitney would make any song presented to her sound as if she had written it. Mariah was more like a painter and decorative painter all in one. I don't remember anybody who could put together complicated background vocals like Mariah. Had social media been around back then, Mariah would've been twice bigger than Taylor [Swift.] I can't name a song by Taylor Swift, but the woman is a phenomenon.
