Yes, And? (105,479)

I agree. I'm not hearing auto tune at all. I think she sounds more youthful and energised.

I really don't hear autotune being used. It is just her true alto voice shining through. If you noticed on the "baby you" lyric her alto tone shines through. During the Charmbracelet era she would have given us a breathy tone on that lyric. Her voice has just changed so much that she has lost an octave or two making her alto range shine through more.

I had to think of Madonna too. Lol. House and a little En Vogue vibe. Yes, who would have thought? I think the teens will like the remix. I don't feel this song. Maybe mostly because I don't like the music from Ariana in general. I also don't need the f. in lyrics. Luckily I have the MB 30 where the lyrics are wonderful. Plus the remix of "Working hard" which is a hundred times better than this. Just my humble opinion.

I don't hate the remix but there are three things that surprise me. The first is that this song sounds very much like a Madonna song and I never in a million years thought Mariah would go there. Secondly, why did Mariah not try and blend in with Ariana's vocals (in the same way Brandy did on The Roof), it would have been more pleasing to the ear. Mariah's shouty adlibs could have been better executed and more melodic. Finally, Mariah needs to lay off the auto tune, it's not even subtle. This remix feels rushed and I would be even more surprised if it reached #1.

Yes, And? remix (105,477)
by Terna from Nigeria

At first [listen], it's more "umph" than the original and it's been rewritten by Carey of course (I [love] her verse), I'm not excited about the song because it's not melodic enough and honestly, an uptempo isn't what I look forward to hearing from these two very talented ladies, an intentional ballad where they let loose with a flurry of high notes, harmonies and layered vocals for days, just a [euphoric] experience is more in line with what I want, expect and I'm on the look out for (fingers crossed). This remix however is gonna do what it's meant to do - breathe new life in this song.

I don't know yet. I really hoped for a reworked version, with different arrangements. At least Mariah is finally on Max Martin's track. I like the original "yes, and?". Especially the video with the dance routine, though for me the production is missing something. It has great potential but is rather "undercooked" still.

I am gonna play it until my battery runs off and I really like the song but I believe people are divided. Twitter stans are hating. I personally love uptempo vogue dancey tracks so that's why I liked it so much but I think the general public is finally realizing that Mariah's voice has changed. Ariana is like the fourth most listened singer on Spotify so that will bring a lot of attention to Mariah and her voice. I am curious about what you guys think.

I do too. But that's only because I really love AI MC Selfish. I don't mind the remix, wasn't too blown away. I don't think she added as much to it as she did to the Big Energy remix. Also, I agree with what somebody said - some adlibs just don't sound too pleasant. Of course I'm still playing it.

I have to say the remix is everthing and well worth the wait. Their vocals and whistle notes are crazy. MC sounds so good. Her adlibs are MC for sure. Their harmonizing is subperb. It will be #1 next week. MC's 20th #1 is next week. Who is the male voice during the intro? He sounds familiar. Bye.

I actually really like it, the intro is pure old school Mariah 90's remixes, plesently surprised. But, Mariah's voice sounds a bit strange, I didn't recognize her when she started to sing, I have never heard her voice sound like it does on this remix, it sounds manufactored to be honest.

As always when new MC music is released, I am hopeful. In the meantime I am loving Music Box all over again. My first song heard was Hero. First album bought was MB. I got the 3CD set in the mail a few days ago. I love what MC wrote about the album. It was released during troublesome times in her personal life. But she also recognizes the album is an important part of her career development, an important part of her life, even if it was during the Tommy years.

Yes and, my thoughts (105,450)
by Tevin from USA

|

Ok, so like many of you have said on here, when I heard that there will be a new Mariah song released, I was ecstatic, but I also felt a bit conflicted, because I don't like the song Yes, And. I thought about it for a while and now I'm actually happy Mariah is doing this and here's why.
1. She is stepping outside of her comfort zone, like we have been begging for her to do for years (yes this may be a dance or club track like she's done in the past, but let's be honest, she hasn't done it in a long time).
2. She's collaborating with a female singer (one who can do crazy runs, high belts and even whistle, though not up to Mariah's level). Once again we have been asking her to do this.
3. Homewrecker or not, Ariana is still very popular and her music still sells. Once again we have been asking Mariah to work with a popular artist and no has been or up and coming artist.
4. We are finally able to see Mariah (after a very long time), work her magic with redoing a remix. Now if it's just added vocals, then I'll be happy but also disappointed, but by the sound of it, is that this will be a completely reworked song.
5. This introduces Mariah to a younger crowd outside of December. Once again we have been asking her to do this.
I can go on, but the point is this, we haven't heard this remix yet, so how can we judge it before we hear it? Though I don't agree with Ariana's actions, we shouldn't criticize a remix we haven't heard yet (the "d" I ride part may not even be in the remix), also let's not be hypocrites, a very young Mariah was also in a similar situation in the past depending on how you look at things (with Tommy being married when he met Mariah). I'm not judging nor pointing fingers and honestly I don't care about what other people do, I'm just trying to make a point.
I think Mariah's team is doing a good job. Get the public on your side, blow up on social media, show up to the Grammy's to appease the music academy (or whatever you call it). Start collaborating with young and established artist. Then drop your own fresh new song and possible album (I hope this last one comes true). I think with the success of Big E last year, it showed that Mariah may not be reigning in the charts nowadays, but her name does pull weight and people will tune in to listen if they can connect to the music.
Ok rant over.

Eyes (105,457)

Is the "eye" thing a clue for something? The cover of the single only has their eyes. And the photo of Ariana and Mariah together looks like Mariah is deliberately angled so that one of her eyes and one of Ariana's are almost joined together haha. Side note, their makeup too is pretty synchronized with the bronzed skin, big lashes and it looks like they're wearing the exact same lipstick. Their hair too looks the exact same shade haha.

Yus always happy to have a partner to be giddy over MC. None of my friends or family are "lambs", they like her songs here and there but not a lamb so that's why MCA is my outlet haha. I am seeing posts about how Mariah's team is super into pushing this song and Ariana's team on board. With their combined budget I do hope they give it their all. Ariana posted a photo wearing a dress with the Butterfly cover photo, and MC retweeted it with a "she ate". 4 more hours. I have work tomorrow so I probably won't be able to hear it tonight but first thing tomorrow morning I'm excited to see the reactions.

You all have to try this (105,455)
by Tevin from USA

Why we wait for Mariah's new single to drop, try this playlist out. This to me would have been the perfect ending to Caution. She should have moved Portrait to the number one or two spots on the album. Anyway, for the last songs put them in this order: Giving Me Life, Caution, (jump over to YouTube and play Selfish), Runway. Try it out and let me know what you all think.
