Music Box vs. My Prayer (103,308) by Bobby A from United States
This theory makes better sense than mine. Does iTunes and Amazon update their websites with the tracklisting for upcoming Friday releases every Tuesday?

Music Box 30th anniversary revealed (103,307) by Bobby A from United States
I am wondering the same too. She didn't do a 30th anniversary for Mariah Carey or Emotions. Music Box must be really dear to MC. Daydream's 30th anniversary will probably be huge with the release of her version of Somebody's Ugly Daughter.

Re-recording Music Box 30 (103,306) by Andrew from the UK
Far be it for me to throw a spanner in the works but I am forced to agree with Eddie: Music Box is not one to be messed with.

More to the point, perhaps: having read original and somewhat up-to-date reviews of Music Box: how pithy the negative critiquing of Music Box as an engineered money-maker. Blockbuster movies are created to be blockbuster movies: the timing, the CGI, the actors, the release date, the budget, the production studio... everything is on point to make a blockbuster.

So Mariah made a ballad heavy pop masterpiece in order to show that she was not going to be taken on by Whitney hands-down. She created one of the move successful albums there ever was - and that came from within her. What a ridiculous - actually if I could label it as it is without Eric deleting it, I would - state of affairs to be criticised for being good. So she didn't sell as well with Emotions - and, boy, did they write about that. She sold extremely well with Music Box - and, boy, wasn't it just "selling out"? GTFO.

Music Box is a masterpiece. It is her biggest selling album because it contained grand songs, timeless masterpieces and a vocal performance that ought to have won her more accolades than it did. To have created an answer to The Bodyguard soundtrack was in and of itself a stroke of genius that could only have been done by MC.

Music Box is her best-selling work and is flawless for that it is. A Blockbuster.

But I am sure as shit certain that don't nobody need the 2009 Hero. Get me Ed Shapiro on the phone.

Not yet (103,303) by Randy from USA
I stated this last year and y'all beat me up. I do not want her legacy to be this song. I love the song AIWFCIY. But my hopes for MC was to be taken seriously as a singer songwriter. In the vein of a Carole King, Jewel, Sarah Mc, Dianne Warren, Lauryn Hill, Joni Mitchell. To me she's every bit as "deep" as they are. The problem is this diva image and this new idea that she's to be thawed out every November and put away in January. Mariah has a catalogue as robust and timeless as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince, Madonna and Barbra Streisand. I am worried sick that her live flubs, overreliance on being a busty Mrs. Claus and a teetering diva in stilettos is not only going to tarnish her legacy but destroy it. Oh, this is all wrong.

I'm so glad we are getting a high quality version of the Extended/Uncut Version of "Anytime You Need a Friend". This is my absolute favorite song on the album.

I wonder which of Mariah's other albums will get an "anniversary" re-release. I would like to see that happen for "Daydream" and "Glitter".

Music Box vs. My Prayer (103,299) by Shezz from Pk
Maybe this is the song the Clark sisters worked on. According to one fan site she used a full orchestra to rerecord an unreleased song. Rest easy Bill, I don't think she's rerecorded the entire Music box album - just unreleased/unfinished song or 2. Friday is too far away after that teaser she released. Sounds like her current voice?

Unless tracks from that recording sessions are released, like All I Live For, she should leave Music Box alone.

Just seen a post that there's a rumour Mariah is re-recording one or more tracks for musicbox30 or another project to be released this year.

Music Box vs. My Prayer (103,294) by Bobby A from United States
I have always wondered if Music Box started out as as a gospel song but evolved into what we have today. Listening to Music Box, MC makes you think she is talking to God in one verse and in another verse is to talking her lover. The use of the word "thee" makes me think Music Box was a gospel song before MC changed the lyrics to make it more secular with the use of the words "sweet", "tenderly", and "baby". Therefore, I am wondering did My Prayer evolve out of Music Box to become the gospel song MC wanted. I think that it is safe to assume that My Prayer is a gospel song. I hope The Price sisters and Melonie Daniels took it to church.

That's what I thought too, Bill. K2 technology is just a waste of money. I have always thought that from 1990-1997 MC's recordings had the best sound. Sony was a powerhouse back then in every aspect of the music industry. I will save my money for the 8th.

I absolutely agree with you. Remastering anything from the late 80's on has resulted in CD's with louder volumes, that's it. Sometimes the remastering process has even ruined the original feel of the CD. For me, remastering works wonders by removing background static noise from recordings that predate the CD era and by improving those recordings that sounded as if the artists were singing from inside a well, other than that, it's just a way to entice people to buy again.

I don't have that version my friend, but that's because it's a lot of snake oil. It won't sound any better than the CD. CD audio (16bit/44.1khz) is better than the top range of human hearing (but a substantial margin), so much like the gold "hi-res" stamp you see, it's marketing with no discernable difference. The fact the K2 CDs play on a regular CD player, which cannot encode any better than the Redbook standard, is testament to that.

The only true difference can be heard on the SACD/HDCD format, which you need to play on special decoders/systems. You will hear nuances in the music and perhaps elements deeper in the mix brought to life a bit more. To my knowledge only #1's and Divas Live has been released on that format from Mariah's catalogue.

Any difference you hear on the K2 version will likely be down to the mastering, and in most cases it's "louder" only. So, put in your regular Music Box CD and turn up the volume dial and you'll have the same outcome.

We are fortunate Mariah recorded her albums in top quality Sony studios (up until Rainbow), the CDs all sound fantastic and are the absolute best they can be.

What do we know about Dolby Atmos technology that was used for mastering the 30th anniversary edition? Also, I just found out Music Box was released on a K2 HD mastering technology CD in 2011. Bill, do you have the K2 CD?

September 8th is the day at midnight on MC's website. The expanded digital package will be made immediately available on digital platforms while the physical items will have ship dates assigned to them. Hopefully, the 3 CD set is ready now to be shipped from a warehouse. The 4 LP will be assigned a November or December ship date. I hope the 4 LP vinyl set receives the same packaging as The Rarities.

I'm not sure, but presumably through her website and, for an artist if her standing, I'd imagine it would be on Amazon and so on. The trailer does say there is an "expanded digital version" which I am assuming is the 3xCD version. It's next week, so I'm surprised it's not yet available to pre-order anywhere.
