You messing with Daydream? (103,053) by TJ from Norway
Music Box is perfect (as her debut album also was), Daydream is to me, almost there. Butterfly was on fire, like Glitter was. So much good music.

Yes it is. I became a Mariah fan because of this album. (I still have the original cassette.) It's perfect. I played it at my school times for everyone, and most of them loved it too. It's the ultimate Mariah album besides "debut", "Emotions", and "Music Box". I'll love it forever and ever.

Right To Dream is one of my favorite MC songs that never did anything commercially, but it is probably one her best written songs post Glitter era. I really think Willie Nelson really helped MC write a gem. I wish that she would take more chances with other singer/songwriters and not just for a special project or movie. By the way Glitter and TEOM are #3 and #4 for magnum opus.

Ahem. Butterfly is her magnum opus. Daydream is second. But I would never slam Daydream. It was the first CD I owned by her. Everything before that was cassette. And about banning Andrew. Isn't that request getting old. Kinda like me talking about 1997, Right to Dream and the 2006 Grammy cut and paste job. We are a dysfunctional family. All of us are needed. Terna gets on my last nerve and I would never want him banned or to stop posting. We love everybody.

Jason Aldean's song is not controversial. SMH. Go read Cardi B WAP lyrics and watch her lovely video then compare that to Aldean. The only controversy is the one the media is creating. Next.

It's a good thing we aren't face to face, lol. I'd have to take the necessary steps to defend Daydream. Randy, I know exactly the version you are talking about. That's my favorite version of Fantasy too. I absolutely love every song on that album. Looking In is my life's theme song. From the amazing bridge to I Am Free to the sultry layering of vocals on Melt Away, Daydream just oozes perfection. The album includes the emotion that maybe was missing on MB for some. Now back away slowly from Daydream and no one gets hurt.

I would like to associate myself with your sentiments somewhat. However, people are of course entitled to express opinion but lies must be challenged If I were, for example, to claim that Aqua's Barbie Girl is a direct copy of Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell - that is flatly denying obervable reality. Any suggestion that "It's their opinion and they're entitled to it" is rather problematic because it assumes that a lie can be justified under the umbrella of individulism and self-expression. In any case, it's just planily stupid - and it very much is, so I am declaring it - to say that everything else on Daydream is a copy of Fantasy and One Sweet Day. Now if someone wants to state such a thing and provide, then, evidence to support the hypothesis, that's an argument, that's good, that can be debated in an attempt to discover truth. I recall a few years ago asking to no response what people meant on this board by declaring "everything Mariah realsed since 2005 is a copy of We Belong Together." I asked, if they meant, the harmonies, the theme, the style, the phrasing, the melody, the... whatever. I still don't know. I can't hear We Belong Together in Touch My Body which was refreshingly different for Mariah. I can't hear it in Obsessed. Nor can anyone who isn't deaf of very hard of hearing or just stupid for stupid's sake hear Fanasy or One Sweet Day in Looking In. The claim is false, there is nothing to support it as it stands and any attempt to dress it up as an opinion is at best unhelpful and at worst just stupid. Lies ust be challenged. Flatly denying observable reality is lying. Now somebody may not like the rest of the album, and that's fine. I would support them in shouting it from the rooftops, were they so inclined. But some eivdence to support my rather excellent argument: it's a positively stupid claim given that, as I understand it to have been, Underneath The Stars was the first song written and recorded for Daydream. So unless Tommy Mottola had a time machine (which I am namng the Time-y Mottola), as Judy Sheindlin put it: "Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining." Peace out.

You're entitled to your opinion and people are entitled to their opinions, and their opinions on your opinions. You're free to critique, and be critiqued. Now that we have that settled.

No controversial song or video (103,040) by Bobby A from United States
MC is one of few artists who has never had a controversial song or video. The Obsessed video and song probably would come close to being controversial because she didn't know how Eninem would react to her comedic portrayal of him in the video and the shade lyrics about him. However, she has had many single releases that received a negative promotional plan or very low radio airplay. Can't Take That Away and H.A.T.E.U are on the top of the list for this category.

Fantasy (103,038) by Randy from USA
Ed and Zach y'all are both wrong. There is a version on the maxi single that has the ODB version with the pop chorus on it. It is the best version. And this whole thing about being dressed and unhappy vs. scantily clad and jubilant. I would be fine with MC wearing pasties, clear plastic platform stilettos and a G-string if she was replicating her new music vocals live on stage without cut and paste playback and a wall of background singers. I don't care about the image. I care about the undeniable talent being present at all times. Even on live TV.

"Daydream was only huge because of Fantasy remix with O.D.B. and One Sweet Day. The rest of the album is just copycat of those two singles."

Uh... No. While the O.D.B remix was more popular, I've always preferred her solo version.

There are better songs on Daydream than "Fantasy" and "One Sweet Day", way better. I won't tell you "copycat my ass" because that would be inappropriate to say on this board, but "Underneath the Stars" is far better than OSD, just to name one.

We interrupt this crazy with news just in: criticizing a music artist is absolutely okay. Anybody on Earth wanting praise and adoration must accept that there will be critiques and criticisms along with it. Anybody who asks "Do you like the ensemble?" many times over must be prepared for the answer to be no and reasons given. If it made Mariah "happy" to take her clothes off I salute that. We all need to be happy and it's not easy to achieve. But her fans and followers were not looking for the nakedness and girly attitude from her. By Rainbow she was doing interviews in skimpy bikinis, bouncing around in videos with her bra-less breasts knocking left to right and on stage crowning herself the winner of her own beauty pageant every night on tour. People didn't want that from her, I would offer, so they starting turning away. She had the right to do so just as they had the right to. It's okay. I am just making observations which I am absolutely 100% qualified to do. Just as I am absolutely 100% sure that the any claim made to the extent that the other tracks on Daydream are copies of, or attempting to emulate, "Fantasy" and "One Sweet Day" are, well, absolutely absurd and total tosh. And I know you're going to get a lot of opposition to spouting such spurious nonsense. Daydream means a hell of a lot to almost everybody here.

David. I laughed out loud at Andrew because his love language is sarcasm and British snarkiness. The world would be full of toxic positivity without him. You ever watch the Matrix. What is that architect's purpose? To balance the equation. What is Andrew's purpose? To unbalance it. And you guys, how did I forget Right To Dream, Anytime You Need a Friend. Can I redo my list? If anyone should be banned it should be me. I constantly bring up 1997, smoke and mirrors and Right To Dream being the best song ever written and recorded by any artist living, dead, or on Mars. I love everyone. Because right now we need it.

I think that David was offended by your GTFO lyric, "Why don't you get the." Interpretation is vague and difficult to know what you were trying to say to Randy. I am sure Randy understood. Be nice to me Andrew. Lol. You and I go way back and our board relationship was very contentious from 2013-2020.

I would not agree that she, in 1997, took her clothes of and never put it back on because her voice was "overheating". That sounds a bit harsh and offensive towards her right as woman to dress as she pleases. Especially now in 2023.

I would rather see her happy (as in Honey video in racy clothes) then covered up to her neck, looking miserable. I am a lamb since 1990 but I prefer her work from Butterfly era until now.

Daydream was only huge because of Fantasy remix with O.D.B. and One Sweet Day. The rest of the album is just copycat of those two singles.

David: Randy is my friend outside of this board. He will understand the humour as will others, like Eddie, for example. I am sorry you do not. Alas, you do remind me that one can't say boo to a goose 'round here for fear that someone so precious starts screaming "hate" and why I did not miss it. Talking of being an unreliable witnesss: I have not posted on this board in two years. Two years. If every two years is how often you visit the board, you have quite some entitlement to demand how it is run. In the interest of harmony, I offer you my sincerest of apologies for having triggered you.
