Mariah was the most qualified but she wasn't good at it. She was rather boring and couldn't articulate her thoughts easily. Everybody was always waiting for those enlightening critique moments, but they never came. Wait, there was an enlightening moment when she became the first judge ever to get late to the show set, the other judges had already started taping without her, and when she showed up, she said: "If you want a diva, you have to pay the price." Many times she went on her usual diva tangents and rather than being a judge, she was more worried about being nice. As much as I hate to say it, Nicki was better at it. Some people are or have a well of knowledge, they could be great at using it, but few have the skill to teach it. Mariah is great as a mentor, she's shown it on some shows, but she should stay away from judging on singing competitions. The good things is that she knows it.

I can't believe I'm bringing this up here and now after all these years but it's got to be said. And I'm not going to apologize for it. Mariah Carey was the most qualified to be a judge on American Idol than anyone else. Period. I'm not discounting anyone else's talents at all. I liked most of them, except the one we "don't know " and that other one that dared to attack MC. The nerve. I really wish Mariah had stayed on the show longer than one season because I enjoyed her mentoring the contestants. She actually knows a lot about the music industry and could have helped so many others. It's a shame what happened during her season. I hope we can one day get another show where she helps nurture and mentors young talent but without all the drama. She's just such a legend and a living Icon. We need to appreciate her because tomorrow is not promised. Remember, she owes no one anything.

It's difficult to trust Wikipedia as that also said Mariah wrote All My Life when she didn't. Anyone can add nonsense to an article. I find it odd Mariah would say, in her own words, that she didn't write the song and also didn't like it when she, according to some, did write and produce it?

According to Wikipedia, the original songwriters were commissioned by Disney. When MC signed on to sing Almost Home, she and producers Stargate changed it a bit and Almost Home became what was released. It's funny the website the Singersroom says that Sia Furler wrote the song with the other songwriters. It does have a Sia influenced melody during the lyrics. Could she be a ghost songwriter on the song? She was extremely popular then as a songwriter.

Almost Home - Mariah actually did write a song for that, but after she turned it in they practically re-wrote the entire thing. That's not what she wrote, but that's why they gave her a writing credit. She was still under contract, so when studio time came for her to sing it and she saw the finished project wasn't her song, she still had to sing it. The second part of songwriting is "how" you sing it, I'm not sure how much of the original of Mariah's writing in that sense made it to the final product either. However, it sounds like Mariah's style during the climax with all the extra Mariahs.

Disney commissioned Simone Porter, Justin Gray, and Lindsey Ray to write Almost Home. Mariah Carey later signed on to sing it. She and production team Stargate later changed it a bit and ultimately, completed it. She was never asked to write the song, and I'm happy for that. Almost Home is the closest we got to 90's Mariah. Had Mariah been able to change significant part of the song, she would be singing a different tune. Probably they could only tweak the production a bit.

Boyz II Men performance (102,789)

Mariah stated that she did hundreds of hours of recording sessions in 2020 - quite frankly, she might be able to give us multiple albums over the years from those sessions. Yes, I'm sure she's exaggerating as she tends to do, maybe not, but it still sounds like she recorded a large amount of tracks.

Maybe that is one of reasons she and Tanaka broke up. He probably wanted her to get some professional or medical help for her vocal issues. You know MC doesn't like to be told what she should do. I posted prematurely before I saw the rest of the videos. Can we all come to terms that we may never get a new Mariah Carey album? How can she produce an album with the state that her voice is in? It is sad that MC's career is on the verge of being over.

That would be three but what kills me about this whole thing is how the internet keeps giving her writing credits. The only reason I thought she co-wrote All My Life was because if you google it all of the sites say she wrote it with Rick James. I don't know why she didn't collaborate on Almost Home. Isn't that Stargate whom she's worked with before? But yea the internet has me stating the wrong information and you know how much I'm about the truth.

Charmbracelet tour (102,786)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

|
I can't believe it's 20 years since this wonderful tour started. I remember it as it was yesterday and I will never forget that concert. It was my first to see Mariah live. I was totally blown away just like my best friend who went with me. I re-wachted the tour on YouTube yesterday and I also wish there was an official DVD. (Instead of the Mimi tour.) The way Mariah did the concerts, her voice better than on the album. I loved everything. Her intro, her confidence, her look. Oh my, I will never forget her beauty on that night. Singing on the piano "Subtle Invitation", then "Bringin' on the Heartbreak", the atmosphere was so unique. It sounds corny but the whole audience was simply enchanted. Never experienced something like it again. Of course Trey and the band with the background singers were fantastic too. It was like a dream, too good to be true but it was. I also liked the idea with the painting for every Mariah song. "Vision of love", "Without you" and "Hero" live were just phenomenal. I could go on and on with the praising. One of the best nights in my life. The memory is deep in my heart. I Mariah.

Rainbow was bigger than Daydream (102,785)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
20 years has passed since I talked to one of Mariah's old team members, so I'll spill. No, the actual promotion for Rainbow was extremely limited whereas they spent millions promoting Daydream. Rainbow was self-promoted more specifically by Mariah than any other album since her debut. Rainbow wasn't supposed to happen. The next project was Glitter, so her promo budget was cut in half. Half for Rainbow and half for Glitter. Mariah made a deal with Walmart to get more funding for her album, but it came with a promotional tour of their stores. It was the first time Mariah toured the Midwest since her debut. She not only did a lot of promo on any tv show she could find and anywhere Walmart wanted her to promote, but she also did any local radio station where ever she was. It was non stop interviews and performances. There was no "2 days rest" for live vocals while she was working 15 hour days, she did when she could. Baby girl's voice was sore for most of '99 when album promo officially began.

Rainbow was bigger than Daydream (102,745)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|

Well, here it is as I promised. I am probably going to get a lot of push back for making this statement. This is why I have made such a bold statement. Rainbow was MC's liberation album. She had creative authority to do what she wanted to on Rainbow. She wanted to fulfill her contractual obligations to Sony Music. So she recorded Rainbow in 6 months. The recording of Rainbow has been her shortest time ever to record an album. The Heartbreaker single Jay-Z feature was a first for MC. It was the first time in her career that another artist was featured on one her lead singles. MC wrote ballads that were closer to R&B than pop for Rainbow. Many of the ballads mirrored sentiments she experienced in her personal life. The first week album sales of 323,000 were the highest in her career at the time. It was the first time a single's remix was featured on the album's initial release. Mariah started this trend that many R&B/Hip Hop have duplicated. It was the first time a Mariah Carey album had two interludes included in the album's tracklisting. The Biana alter ego was introduced. The Heartbreaker video was more expensive than Fantasy. Heartbreaker is one of the most expensive videos ever made costing 2.5 million. Promotion and tour was bigger than Daydream. Agree or disagree?

Tina Arena is fantastic, especially her "Don't Ask" and "In Deep" albums, but I don't think she sounds or looks enough like Mariah to be able to do a convincing portrayal. As she also sings French language songs, I thought she'd be perfect to play Celine one of these days.

You're so right, Matty. The Bachelorette commercial is what prompted my post. I was moving around cleaning in my living room and I heard the Fantasy intro and MC's iconic voice. I think that Fantasy has been used more in past 5 years in commercials and movies than any other MC song. 1990-1999 will always be the years that non fans will know Mariah Carey for her work and artistry. Cheers to the queen of iconic songs and intros and that voice back then. I hope that we get biopic movie in the next five years played by the Australian singer and actress Tina Arena.

"Fantasy" and "Vision of Love" are outstanding. 100% Mariah magic, just brilliant. Yes, her years from 1990 until 1999 are unbelievable. I did a "music marathon" with the songs from that decade. The melodies, her lyrics, her voice so soft and powerful. I can't get enough of it. It's addictive for the ears and soul. Oh Tina Arena really? She's great. That would be a nice surprise. I have a best of CD from her, I just listenend the week before. Fanstasic voice and the song "Chains" reminded me a little bit of Mariah on some parts.

Fantasy is like nothing else. I think it's her most known intro to non-lambs for sure and you just know exactly the fire and heat she's about to unleash. I love the "Bounce Bounce Bounce" from Migrate is epic especially for an album opener; probably her best album opener. I'd also back the LoverBoy Firecracker intro; it's a heartbreaker that she couldn't have released that initially.
Ps. Any North American's see the upcoming commercial for The Bachelorette? [They] use [Fantasy] in it, and starts with that epic intro. It's almost a best of montage Fantasy it's [an] amazing commercial and I'm not even a fan of the show.
