Re: One offs compilation album? (99,688) (99,694)

Not sure what you mean. MIAMTEC was supposed to be released in 2012. She pushed it back when Nick was hospitalized. After his diagnosis, she pushed it back to the end of the year until her AI deal was announced. The album was pushed back again. Everyone wanted Triumphant. She wasn't going to release it to radio. Rap stations begged, so she released it solely to them. Pop fans loved the remixed dance versions. One of them could've easily had a radio edit and be made into a single. Mariah was already scheduled for AI and her role in The Butler. She gave rap fans a low budget video for fighting for the track and it went to #1 on BET for a month. ESPN called her up for the track, she squeezed it in for the halftime show due to request, other sports venues were interested too. She had a major platform never used before if she went after it. However, that would've been impossible with her contracts and concern over Nick relapsing which is the whole reason she agreed to AI in the first place.

Did that [man] just sample "Love Takes Time" and his new track "Alone"? And even hit a whack high note at the end of the song? Something about getting Mariah [back]. Smh.

Some soul for you, from '77 for Superbowl Sunday. I love these ladies, their music is timeless and much sampled. The lead singer there [is] an excellent songwriter as well. And look at a then handsome Elton John hosting the show.

MC16 and up tempo bangers (99,691)
by Bobby A from United States

Caution was lacking those up tempo bangers. Listening to Mary J Blige's GMG and I think that I have found the producer who can give MC those up tempo bangers on MC16. His name is Bongo By The Way. He has had some high profile placements in the past 5 years. Check him out on the first three tracks on Mary J. Blige's GMG. He even produced Keyshia Cole's ballad, Vault.

Ten years, RIP Whitney (99,690)
by Randy from USA

I can't believe today it's been a decade since my world became a bit dimmer. I have sang on choirs since I was in elementary school. The first song we sang, "The Greatest Love of All". I was taught how to put the needle on a record with a Whitney Houston record. This is when an artist goes from being a singer to a muse on your shoulder. She's linked to every moment of my life. I believe she was hurt as a child, made to repress her sexuality and her personality and then left to languish when balladeers fell out of favor. One of the reasons I've softened on MC about her voice, her image, her weight, her music, and her relationships is because she's also suffered unimaginable pain. The fact that she's still with us and coherent (somewhat) is a gift to us all. Michael is gone. Prince is gone. Madonna has lost her mind. Janet has isolated herself. I love MC. We need to give her her flowers while she's still here. May God bless as all.

The thing was Triumphant was that the arrangement was all wrong. It's a great track, I love the driving beat and the optimistic message, but Mariah didn't appear until the third verse, and it was almost like she was a featured artist on a track she supposedly headlined. I remember when it debuted everyone was waiting around for her to appear on stage, it was just bizarre. I think this is why a lot of fans have a preference for the Vintage Throwback remix which puts Mariah front and centre, where she belongs.

Triumphant was doomed from the start. She was no where near done with the album so "The Art Of Letting Go" album would've looked totally different. She had t completed that song until a year after releasing Triumphant. I'm with you, I wish TAOLG was actually on the main album, I would've liked it to replace Heavenly (which could've been on the deluxe instead). I for on hate the concept of deluxe albums because it screams of greed from the label. It's like the artists make the art and choose the amount of songs, and then big business comes in and tacks on a few more songs so they can sell the whole thing all over again. That's why I love E=MC2 for the fact that it was a one and done. Like her 90's albums. I kinda wish MIAMTEC never happened.

One offs compilation album? (99,686)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|

A pet peeve I have in our digital streaming era is when singles are released without a parent album. I wonder if Mariah could add the one off singles to a formal compilation of some sort. Thoughts?
It would be great to give Triumphant, I Don't, Almost Home and even The Art of Letting Go a proper home. It drives me bonkers that of all the songs on MIAM, she cut The Art of Letting go and only put it on a deluxe version (which also had the better album artwork, and I'm not talking about the paint shop version of the deluxe addition that has America the unnecessary).
Also, if Triumphant were to have stayed on MIAM as the lead single, as originally intended, how would Triumphant (single 1), #Beautiful (single 2), The Art of Letting Go (single 3), You Don't Know What to Do (final single 4) played with the public?

Thanks. In an alternative universe Mariah would've just released two albums after TEOM. But those two would've been the two greatest albums she had ever done. (Memoirs would be mixed with E=MC2. And MIAMTEC would've mixed with Caution.) All the songs that didn't make the cut could've ended up on later Rarities discs. It would go something like this:
E=MC2 (IDJ/2009) 1. Migrate (ft. T-Pain) 2. Touch My Body 3. Cruise Control (ft. Damian Marley) 4. H.A.T.E.U. 5. Side Effects (ft. Young Jeezy) 6. I'm That Chick 7. Obsessed 8. I'll Be Loving You Long Time 9. Betcha Gonna Know 10. Thanks For Nothing 11. Standing O 12. For The Record 13. It's a Wrap 14. I Wish You Well
Caution (Sony/2018) 1. GTFO 2. With You 3. Caution 4. A NoNo 5. The Distance (ft. Ty Dolla$ign) 6. Giving Me Life (ft. Slick Rick) 7. One Mo' Gen 8. 8th Grade 9. Stay Long Love You (ft. Gunna) 10. Faded 11. Dedicated (ft. Nas) 12. #Beautiful (ft. Miguel) 13. Portrait

I like this one too. Mariah wasn't in a good place to release MIAMTEC. First it took so long to make and then it felt rushed upon release. Makes you wonder if she would've just put some of the better songs in the vault and had beefed up Caution with them how would it of turned out. At least the album would've had a sure fire hit in Beautiful feat. Miguel. I always thought Dedicated and Faded sounded more like Caution era songs, especially because they were made with two producers she hadn't ever worked with before. Same with Beautiful.

New album is an old album (99,677)
by T from USA

|

Everyone is assuming that she will have a new studio album ready for us this year but you know how long it takes her get an album ready, and with no real label support she's not going to have the funds to work with the people it will take to make a hit. I think she's spent the last two years in Atlanta with Daniel Moore (In the Mix, Portrait, Close My Eyes '20) and his band. She's reworking Butterfly for the 25th anniversary at the end of the year. Hopefully a documentary will go with it. It's called the Butterfly Lounge. That's the new(ish) material. After that it will be close to Christmas time. I think people need to keep their expectations in line. She tweeted Bruno Mars to "come thru" to the lounge but it didn't happen. She's not gonna get high profile busy artists to come out for free. Would I love Drake, Beyonce and the Weeknd? Sure. Is it going to happen this year? No.

At this point, I'm expecting something similar to Caution, but with 14 tracks instead of 10. It'll be more polished and with some vocal moments here and there. To be honest, in spite of its lack of vocal moments, I enjoyed Caution way more than what I enjoyed MIAM.

What do you think MC16 is going to be like, sonically? Are you thinking an updated Caution, slick R&B with in producers? Or do you think she'll surprise us with either a gospel or jazz album, or will the next release be The Butterfly Lounge? Reworkings of her classic in the style of WBT Valentine's?
