Re: Global Citizen (101,323) (101,343) by Anonymous from United States
I'm going to try and be as positive as possible about the performance. The dress looked nice. The Metallica joke was funny. Her pre-recorded tracks sounded good.

Mariah's certifications (101,342) by Randy from USA
I'm gonna ignore Terna. All I really want to know is where is her Diamond award for Mariah Carey so she can have three Diamond albums?

Re: Variety article - L.A Reid (101,337) (101,341) by Bobby A from United States
You know what Matty, L.A. Reid is the reason why MC moved back to New York. She had to be close to his New York offices for L.A. Reid to work his magic. We are in for some collaborations that L.A. Reid has always wanted for MC. I will just name my top 10: Saleem Remi, Rex Rideout, Kem, Donald Lawrence, Deitrick Haddon, Ryan Tedder. J Moss, Missy Ellliot, Harmony Samuels, and of course another Babyface collaboration.

I would be okay if MC just became a studio artist. I get so excited when she releases a new album. I know that she is going to add all the vocal layering and background vocals to the highest power. I am excited about 2023 with MC, Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and Toni Braxton.

Here we go again, with this Negative Nancy, spreading his gloom and doom, depression and confusion all around this message board. Sit down sometimes Randy and go through your own message archive and you will perceive how you come across – a broken "Right To Dream", "What happened to her voice in 1997" record.

Global Citizen (101,338) by Lee from UK
I was not prepared for the Honey/Heartbreaker mash-up. I would love for Mariah to release this as a remix. The whole set was everything I expected from a Mariah Carey performance in 2022. Lots of poorly executed lip syncing because Mariah can never remember which version she is miming along too. Strained vocals with lots of staccato in place of smooth runs and transitions. Some rambling soliloquy made up of half-completed sentences and under formulated thoughts. Mariah used to be so eloquent and now it's like she second guesses every other sentence she utters. My hope for Mariah is that she continues to make music for the studio but then creates alternative versions of those songs that she can comfortably perform live. She has said before that she makes her songs too high in the studio as she thinks they sound better. If she did some stripped back versions in a lower key, the world get to see that, actually, her vocals are great when she is comfortable and not reaching for notes she can only hit in the studio.

Variety article - L.A Reid (101,337) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
What is this mention in the Variety article about L.A Reid currently working with Mimi on her new album? That’s damn exciting.

Such an amazing performance. The crowd was on fire, and her voice sounded strong and beautiful. She was also so passionate and really present in the moment. I also loved the ballet dancers, during [Hero] and her speech about women's rights and "butterflies who are thriving in the margins".

[censored] Mariah Carey has reached a place in her career where she can create and do as she pleases as she's already solidified her success, something you've seem to forget over and over again just based on your comments lol. [censored] [Webmaster: How dare you insult other fans the way you do, just because they were critical of her performance?]

I loved the performance. It was nice seeing her back home in the city she loves, the crowd seemed really enthused and she seemed to draw off of them with fresh takes on some of her hits. Bravo!

Randy, I know what you mean. I think the ones who grew up with her music or "know" Mariah for so long have another view on certain things. But we always want her to "win" and that she gives the best she can. I haven't watched the performance yet, I hope I can find it online today. I'm glad that most of you liked her gig.

Re: Global Citizen (101,324) (101,332) by Randy from USA
Thanks for not beating me up. What no one ever understands about me, I want Mariah to win. She looked so good. She hasn't aged over the last ten years. I would love for her to just sing where she is and do lyrically driven music. Right To Dream etc. I played the out of GTFO in my classroom the other day during my planning period. She's a genius. That's why the bar is set so high. Wait. What was the subject again?

MC said on Twitter yesterday that the crowd helped to ease her nerves. She did seem nervous because of all the talking and joking around.

LA Reid executive producer on new album (101,329) by "MariahHater" from Hell
I read some news that LA is going to executive produce MC's new album. I'm not gonna expect much but just hoping for new music before she reaches 60 and chant her songs.

Also, I'm wishing for a toned down performance even once in my lifetime this era, non glammed. Just pure acoustic. Mariah in her dusters and the [piano].

Re: Global Citizen (101,323) (101,328) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I agree with you a bit, Randy, I have watched WBT a few times now, and have become uncertain about the last chorus. Maybe Mariah just [has] gotten much better to hide that she lip synchs. But she makes a movement at the very end when she hit that long high note where it looks very natural, it actually looks like she has to make an effort to hit it. Well, I won't let this ruin the performance for me, it was nice to [see] her back on stage again.

Re: Global Citizen (101,323) (101,327) by Mò from South Africa
Randy, I fully agree with you. Given that it was not a Mariah's one woman show, I wish she had [minimized] her talking and just went for a kill (sing), to cement herself to non lambs in the audience.

Re: Missed opportunity (101,318) (101,326) by Todd from Melbourne, Australia
No I was serious! "Bringing on the Heartbreak" (or Heartache? I can never remember) is such a good song. I think with her current - lower - voice, "Nothing Else Matters" could have been an awesome viral moment!

LA Reid is back (101,325) by T from USA
Variety has published an article stating that LA Reid is executive producing her new album. He did TEOM, E=MC2, Memoirs. So I guess from the new one we can expect quality material with horrible single choices.

Re: Global Citizen (101,323) (101,324) by Bobby A from United States
Randy, great review. I was just thinking after watching the performance again that MC's glory days of a performance like MTV Unplugged are gone. We will never get those days back. She is giving us her best. MC did sound better than Sza Sza [who] just can't sing at all. Usher gave the best performance of the event.

Global Citizen (101,323) by Randy from USA
No one's gonna agree with me but I thought it was mediocre. I believe much of Fantasy, Honey and Heartbreaker was prerecorded. I believe the last chorus of We Belong Together was prerecorded. She was flat on Hero and her background singers were intentionally loud. Even though there are no background singers on the original version of Hero. I thought she looked amazing though. And she didn't need anyone to walk her around the stage. My grade: C-

Is the full Metallica performance on YouTube? How many songs did they perform? I couldn't stay up passed midnight after waiting for MC's performance.

Global Citizen performance (101,320) by Terna from Nigeria
I just re-watched it on their YouTube page (in critic mode this time) and I must say I [loved] it, [genuinely]. That inversion of "Honey" and "Heartbreaker" was everything and seeing her pals Jadakiss and Styles P come out to support made me smile, they look good. I haven't been excited about a Mariah live performance in a minute and she did good. Her voice has improved so much, less airy and much more warm and fluid again, than say when she recorded in 2020. The annoying rasp is still there, but not as distracting either, and that "We Belong Together" climax was a "Pow" moment. I applaud Mariah and yes now, I am excited for her next album recording seeing as how drastic her voice has improved. I [look] forward to another "The Emancipation of Mimi" 2025, [bring it] Mariah. *fingers crossed*

Re: Global Citizen - Welcome back MC (101,314) (101,319) by Jamie from UK
Yes she was good. I just wish she wouldn't ramble so much when she's talking. She jumps from one thing to another. It's probably a lack of confidence, it's like she has to say something else in the middle of a sentence to justify what she's saying, like she's talking to herself in her own head. If you watch the unplugged sessions she's very calm and collected when she speaks, I wish she would learn from these early performances how to command herself on stage as she had great presence. But otherwise a great vocal performance and great to see her back on stage again.
