Re: Global Citizen - Welcome back MC (101,314) (101,319)

Yes she was good. I just wish she wouldn't ramble so much when she's talking. She jumps from one thing to another. It's probably a lack of confidence, it's like she has to say something else in the middle of a sentence to justify what she's saying, like she's talking to herself in her own head. If you watch the unplugged sessions she's very calm and collected when she speaks, I wish she would learn from these early performances how to command herself on stage as she had great presence. But otherwise a great vocal performance and great to see her back on stage again.

Wow Todd, you just said what I've been thinking. Not sure if you're just joking or not, but I've wanted her to do a cover of "Nothing Else Matters" for the longest time. This song fits her lyrically and just the way the song is structured and produced makes so much sense. Oh well, a boy can dream.

Wow, I really enjoyed her Global Citizen performance, and I actually think she sang mostly live, even the end of WBT. Her voice is in really good shape and she looked happy and confident. Keep it up Mariah.

I loved the performance. The Honey/Heartbreaker mash-up was her best mash-up yet. We Belong Together and Hero had some great vocals. I loved the WBT intro to the remix with Jadakiss and Styles P. I can tell her voice is 80% back because she didn't say "Hey" five different times at the end of a note and plus no forced notes. Just smooth and fluid notes throughout the whole performance. I just wished MC would stop mentioning about the damn lighting with every live performance. People really don't care about how MC looks without the correct lighting. I thought she looked beautiful in every perfect way. Great job, MC.

That's how Mariah should be doing more often. Just sing with a piano or acoustic guitar. She doesn't have to sing like the record, just rearrange the song into acoustic/piano version and keep it simple.

Watched the reherasals and the live performance. You can really see the confidence she has. Key notes are her finger waves., if she does, she is live, if she is naughty or quirky on stage then its pre-recorded.

I always loved that song. My grandmother passed away in 2007. So when the song was released in 2008 I can relate to the lyrics "this is for my people who lost their grandmothers". In my mind that song is Mariah's 19th number one followed by #Beautiful, her 20th, and All I Want For Christmas For You, her 21st number one. She beat the Beatles' record for having the most number one singles. Hehe.

Here is a clip of her rehearsal. Spoiler alert as she did some interesting changes/mash up. Her voice sounds pretty good for as much as Mariah in 2022 can muster. Interested in watching the performance now.

I just saw this video of MC's rehearsals for the Global Citizen event. I predicted two out of the five songs that she will perform at the event. 1. Fantasy/BBE mash-up 2. Hero 3. Heartbreaker 4. We Belong Together 5. Obsessed

Bye Bye (101,306)

For the last time, as an executive assistant director specialist on this board, I am warning you all to stop talking about Bye Bye. I think it was a great single choice. I love the electronic bobbles and tidbits that Stargate used in the background. And MC's vocal adlib on that final chorus is . I still scream it to the top of my lungs every time I hear the song even though my whistle sounds like a tea kettle. I never knew it. Every day of my life I wish. I wish. I wish. I wish. As time goes by. If you all continue talkin bad about Bye Bye, I am going to revoke your right to use air quotes and dahling. I freaking love that song.

I love this song. It's my favorite from the album and should have been the second single instead the trite Bye Bye. Bye Bye hit #20 solely based on the success of TMB. Had she released I Stay In Love as the second single while she was still doing promotion before she disappeared after her wedding it would have went number #1. I know people on this board hate it and call it a WBT clone, but every non lamb I play it for loves it and asks what album it's from and why she didn't release it. The label halfheartedly threw it out there during the fall with one performance and no radio adds or budget. Such a shame. That album was full of radio friendly songs that went to waste.

Weird (101,301)
by Edward from USA

Isn't it weird that Mariah used all the material from the Butterfly sessions? It's like like she knew all these tracks would end up on the final product from their conception. Most artists usually record over 30 songs and then pick the better ones. Butterfly is truly a special album.

This is such a beautiful song. Mariah should license this to a show or a movie soundtrack and give it a second life because it deserves to be heard again. In fact, there's a lot of really great songs in this album!

I have no doubt, it is a Gospel record, which is always what I have wanted Mariah to do, with songs like "Vision of Love", "My Saving Grace" and "Fly Like a Bird", I would definitely be here for her own versions of Gospel classic covers and also more original Gospel songs. The Clark Sisters collaboration points in that direction.
